Clipping through meshes at edge of screen

For majority of cases it is because the camera is intersecting with the mesh. Not all meshes show a solid color on the interior of the mesh, some are see through from the inside and appear to disappear.

 

If you switch to third person, access the console, toggle on the free camera, and set camera speed multiplier to a small value (like 1), you will be able to slowly and purposefully pass the camera into various meshes (including player body) to see what happens when the camera gets inside.

OK but why doesn't the mesh collision detection prevent it from occurring?
