Could someone please explain ALL the different body mods

So I've been into the oblivion mods in quite a large dose, but only since the last 5 months. I've noticed since then that there are many different popular body mods, and I'm having a hard time knowing where to even look for to find the good ones. I understand that all of this is really a matter of personal taste, but this is what I've noticed.

 

I'm trying to understand everything that is available and how everything works, so the following is my official understanding of all this. Please correct me where I am wrong, and let me know what I missed.

 

 

1. There is exnem, but that is quite old, and HGEC has seemed to completely replace it. Lots of clothing mods were made for exnem such as the goddess shop, oonas, etc. All of these clothes show the old exnem body when worn.

 

2. HGEC. This seems to be the most standard body mod used right now, and most of all the new clothing/armors are designed for this mod, but most of the clothes are adjusted for slight changes, usually in breast size.

This mod seems to go with ozmo's hi-res textures, OR Luchaires HGEC Body Seam Reducer, OR F-INevOblivion skinset for EC and HGEC which makes the skin look more detailed. Either of those three should work with ANB Exnem and HGEC Chest Replacer wMoving Breasts mod, but the breasts will only move if the body is naked, or unless bouncing meshes have been added for specific clothing. Please correct me if I'm wrong. It also seems to me also the the moving breasts + ozmos textures is a big fps hog. I remember before when I was using these two mods, whenever there was a female actor on the screen my fps would take a serious hit. I'm not sure if it's just ozmos, I really think the bounce was also making a problem.

 

3. Roberts female and male body. I've seen a few modifications to this body, and the male one seems to be the standard male body that everyone uses. The female seems to be rather unpopular, and not many peple seem to be using it. There also seems to be very few clothes designed for this body.

 

4. BAB. I like what I have seen of this body, and I think I am going to give it a shot. The Complete Bab Body NUDE mod by Jbak seems to be the ideal download for using this mod, please correct me if I'm wrong.

 

5. UFF ... Okay... I'm not even sure where exactly to get this mod... is it TeamFF Fantasy Figures Texture Pack Base Natural by daede? I also read something somewhere that made me thing that it is actually a bab spinoff... is this true? From what I've seen, it doesn't seem to be my kind of thing, but then again, that's personal.

 

6. TFF... what is this?

 

7. Growlf... this one seems actually very nice. The clothes from Growlfs store all use this body, but installing the body mod tends to screw up your other mods such as EC or HGEC because the upper and lower body of one doesn't fit well with the other, so you can't combine different clothes.

 

So please tell me what I've missed, what's popular, and where to look!

I can tell you a little. TFF is Team Fantasy Figures. It was created to continue where Corwyn's Fantasy Figures left off. If an item was not created by the official Team FF, then it is designated Unofficial Fantasy Figures, or UFF.

A lot of bodies may mess up depending on what type of armors you mix -- if you're using armor that's designed for one specific body type it will show only that body type on your character--this includes exposed armor. Chest armor will replace the whole upper body and pants slot armor will replace the whole lower body, so if your gloves or boots are clipping or your waist doesn't match, that's probably why.

 

I think you've done well enough to educate yourself about the bodies so far. Be aware of the various types of HGEC upper and lower bodies as well as Growlf's various chest sizes. There are also some armor mods that include only one or two items that cover a large portion of the body at once and are incompatible with most clothes and there are some armor types labelled as (tail) (neck) etc and are designed to overlay over portions of the body instead of replace--they can still cause clipping issues however.

I use the FF body. I can give you the links to download the body and the base clothes and armor adapted for it, unless there's something newer out that I'm not aware of. When you want add-ons for this body, it's easy to find because you can simply search "UFF."

Oh, another question.... I'm very surprised to find that there is really no HGEC stock clothing replacer.... ??? I can only find the skimpy one, which IMO looks really silly.

Has no one really ever done a stock clothing replacer for HGEC? I'm still using exnem's stock clothes! I mean, even bab has one!

There only full replacer I'm aware of is THIS file on this website. It's a decent replacer, but only for the "D" HGEC Cup.

 

However, russader is working on a full HGEC replacer right now (Standard HGEC Size with Bounce). Link here. Although the project isn't complete, he's made good progress on it so far. In addition, he's also made a handful of HCup HGEC replacers for a few clothes as well (just search this site for uploads from russader and you'll find them easily enough).

 

The latter clothes are amongst the only non-skimpy clothes I've found for HGEC H-Cup, and the only "stock" replacers I've found for that size.

 

There's a couple other custom pieces (not HCup, but standard size) that are not exceptionally skimpy. Here's a couple I've very recently downloaded from this site (but haven't had a chance to test them yet).

 

Fancy Finery (HGEC and UFF) - The screenshots of these outfits look especially nice.

 

Addendum: After looking at this one at the stock robe replacer by Colourwheels, this one is a bit skimpier than I prefer.

There was a Complete Stock Clothing Replacer for Exnem covering Vanilla and The Shivering Isles. I can't seem to find it anymore though... I do have it backed up on my PC (along with just about any other mod I ever downloaded).

 

But when I recommend it to others, I can't seem to ever find a link to it anymore. You used to be able to find it by just searching 'stock' here on tesnexus.

 

Sadly, it must have been taken down for whatever reason. It's another one you could have used in conjunction with HGEC (and Exnem obviously), since they look fairly similar in shape.
