  1. They should've opted for a voluntary donation feature... or even a feature that allows someone to buy things on the mod authors wishlist on steam or something. Anything but this... Mods will become ' DLC' with unpredictable quality, unknowable lengths of support and the liability of being completely broken by an official game update. I really hope there will be enough outrage and complaints about this so that the decision is reversed.
  2. Yea, agreed. Early on it was really useful but once I levelled to 35+ I get destroyed by the first lone mage I run into. Their attacking power is still good at this level, but it's just that you're really lacking in the HP department. I use healing spells in nearly all of my battles... so when that gets taken away (plus potion use even) it becomes a giant handicap and not a buff. Considering it's a one-use-a-day thing, it should be borderline overpowered.
  3. Yea, when I saw Babette I immediately thought of her as my ticket to trying out vampirism in Skyrim. Another compounding problem is that she's one of the just two original members that survives. At least they could've focused on more dialogue for the surviving members if not the others. Astrid was ridiculous though. You could always tell she didn't like giving up power... but to make a deal with a guy who's son she ordered to be killed is bizarre. It's like if a crime boss orders the death of someone important to you and a hired thug does the killing. Would you be content in getting revenge on the random thug sent to do the bidding? No, you'd want to kill the boss too, which is what happened here. Another negative is that I liked the first sanctuary more than the second one.
  4. Yea, I was dead excited about seeing them in Skyrim... then I find out that these guys are basically only the DB in name, they don't hear the Night Mother, the Tenets have been abandoned and it's the last sanctuary in all of Tamriel. Ugh. Eventually we start doing it the proper way via the Night Mother... but then I'm basically a Listener/Speaker/Silencer all in one, doing everything. But of course, everyone with a personality gets killed at this point and we're left with just two people. It would've been more fun to have quests to recruit new members and promote people after this point, but as said earlier... the contracts are just: go here, kill him, no special conditions requested, come back, repeat. Some of the quests given by the Night Mother need adjusting too. I was told to kill a noble in a hall that he never leaves... he doesn't seem to have a need for sleep. He just sits at the table 24/7, occassionally swapping seats, making it impossible to kill without being surrounded by 5 guards and the Jarl himelf. A littler unfair for a melee based assassin. But anyway, it doesn't matter because this'll be fixed with mods. We saw some amazing stuff in Oblivion, I'm sure this mess can be cleaned up just as good. EDIT: Also, regarding the question about Astrid: I'm also confused of what she was hoping to achieve. She obviously didn't like losing the top position to the Listener/Night Mother combo and wanted me to disappear... but doing it by making a deal with the guy who's son's murder she ordered...? I suppose she wasn't quite thinking things through, or I didn't quite understand what happened. Did she get caught and ratted us out in exchange for being released? Whatever happened, she was foolish/selfish.
  5. Like stated before, there's already a huge competition for hosting Source content, so the site might not kick off that well. Plus I would've thought that Dark0ne has quite a bit on his hands already with the major site redesign and the upcoming Skyrim site.
  6. Yea, I used Gimp to make it.
  7. I'm really hoping that it will be stable. For me, Oblivion and Fallout 3 ran really well on my old machine. But ever since I built myself a new PC, Fallout 3 became unplayable (modded or not). It would crash randomly from anything within 5 minutes to 2 hours. Oblivion still works perfectly though (and about 30 other games, old and new). I spent ages trying to find fixes throughout the year and eventually just gave up on it... never got to try out any DLCs, nor did I feel motivated to give New Vegas a try. If Skyrim has some issues like that... then I'll just cry or something.
  8. I just hope the 'everything is out to kill you all the time (except for Deers)' style is avoided. I would hope that NPC/Monster attitudes and aggressiveness alter depending on what you do. If Lore allows it, then worshipping a certain god that rules over them should make them neutral/friendly. I know that mods will probably solve most problems anyway... so I'm not worrying too much about anything.
  9. Nope, I built this computer last year and spent a lot of money on it. I build my PCs with very high end components to last me for 5 years at least (and over those 5 years I save up money again for the my next PC - £20 a month or so). I'm currently playing all new games at 1920x1200 with everything cranked up to max with plenty of AA and AF and lots other goodies. I'm expecting Skyrim to run just fine... and if it doesn't, then I can surely turn to all the helpful modders who will be cranking out optimization mods. ;)
  10. Heh, no idea if it was a concious decision on Bethesda's part but that is indeed a sure-fire way to force 'vanilla play' if they wanted to. But it also caused much outrage because the construction kit was left unconfirmed and people feared that it wouldn't be released. ;D But they've already announced it for Skyrim and the game isn't anywhere near out yet. A simultaneous release might just happen. Maybe this thread could've served more of a purpose if there was a poll "If possible, will you mod your game from the very first playthrough?". ;)
  11. Well I'm sure it's as you said, that it had an amplified effect... NV was seen more of an 'expansion' and people were probably more inclined to intall their favourite converted/remade mods from FO3. For Skyrim it will surely be far less the case. Also, it all depends on if the Kit is released on the same day the game is released. It wasn't for FO3, so everyone did experience 'vanilla' FO3 for a good while. But then again, I've not problem with people modding from the get go... it's their choice. ;)
  12. I read that and heard Lucien Lachance saying "Eeeeexceelllent!" Just like he does in the quests.
  13. Well, you did say you were expecting a lot of hate for your comment, so you shouldn't act that surprised reading most of these comments. ;) I'm sure everyone will experience vanilla Skyrim as it's meant to be experienced for their first character. From that point onwards they'll choose some mods that will enhance the replayability/longevity of the game... whether it be new textures/quests/armours/weapons/guilds/body-replacers or even 'anime mods'. Everyone will have their own gripes that they will want to fix. Only if the game does a really good job will the user not feel too compelled to 'overhaul' the game. To suggest that modding possibilities be removed isn't a good thing. Simply because you don't like it doesn't mean you should deny it for everyone else, that's a bit mean and selfish. If I decided that ketchup or mayonnaise ruins food (I really don't like either), would you agree that noone in the world should henceforth be allowed to use either and that production of them be stopped? Personally, I've tried all sorts of mods depending on the mood I have been in. One week I could have lots of ridiculous replacers installed only to be installing realism mods the next. I frequently change around the 'style' of my Oblivion to suit what I feel like playing/seeing at the time. This freedom is what has allowed me to play Oblivion to this day. My playtime is 100% in the thousands of hours. Without mods, Oblivion would have long been collecting dust on a shelf because I could write a 500 page book on the gripes/issues/bugs that I've encountered while playing (which I fixed mostly by installing mods). Anyway, It's pointless to say that you dislike people 'ruining their games'. Even without mods you could say that people ruin their games depending on how they play it. Abusing bugs and glitches / not roleplaying properly / quicksaving and trying something luck related over and over until you succeed / giving your characer a silly name / making a deliberately ugly or weird looking character / wearing a silly combination of clothes. ;)
  14. Unless there's been newer statements I'm pretty sure Dark0ne said that the Negative Endorsements are on their way out with the introduction of the new review system (which won't replace endorsements but instead will be an addition to serve as the true indicator of 'quality' of a mod). I can't seem to find a specific post but that's probably because he mentioned it over Mumble during the Amnesia event. He also mentioned the Nexus Wiki idea then which has now been implemented... so maybe he's still working on it.
  15. Though it does seem bad for websites that rely on ads for some revenue, AdBlock is highly advised due to security reasons for all of the web and not just the nexus. Of course, even with AdBlock installed you can still opt to buy Premium membership too. Though I wouldn't try to make people feel bad about not opting to go for the Premium option as not everyone can afford to be generous. Yes, as laughable as that may seem to some, there are people who need to go easy on spendings. I generally don't feel 'bad' about it since I avoid clicking on ads like the plague on any website anyway.
  16. I like snow and mountains... so I'm happy. Can't really say what the best choice is as it depends on what the developers make of it. I am looking forward to seeing some stunning sights and nice cosy villages and towns. Cold environments make the settlements and things so much more homely. Now we might have a real reason why most NPCs stay well away from the wilderness.
  17. i guess we played different fallout 3s. since fo3 had none of those hes right..the weapons you would find on a raider at level 1 were exactly the same as the ones at 30, It was more like morrowind than oblivion in that sense. I'm quite certain there is some level scaling in the game. Enemy spawns are affected by it... it's really hard to meet a Deathclaw or Yao Guai at level 1, but at level 20 they're everywhere. Merchants got around the wastelands fine early levels... but if the player is level 20, then they all end up getting shredded up and killed by the tougher enemies. Anyway, regardless of all that. Even if I'm wrong, I just hope they never pick up the habit in Oblivion again where they give you weaker versions of quest rewards simply because you're a low level at the time. It made me wait until level 25+ all the time before doing quests which is terribly unfun. I always wondered "Did I just get a weaker version of a really useful/unique item?".
  18. I just hope they noted the most popular mods and looked at the gripes page on the UESP site. I'm mostly concerned about the leveled items/enemies business which seems to have carried on in the Fallout games. I look forward to seeing some decent mountainous regions. If you disable the border in Oblivion and see the landscape beyond it, it's lots of deep valleys and hills everywhere. I always thought how cool it would be for towns to be behind them. It seems most cities were accessible by just travelling over generally flat terrain in Cyrodiil. Wonder if the weather will play a role in the gameplay: Fur armour vs Iron/Steel.
  19. As soon as the modding capabilities are confirmed to be on the level of previous games then I'll be buying it regardless how buggy/glitchy/badly reviewed it may be. :D People kept PM'ing me on youtube (no idea why, since I'm not too bothered where it'll be) confidently saying it'll be a 'sequel to oblivion' and still in Cyrodiil... glad that'll come to an end now. :D
  20. Yea, my range of animes I like is quite big... it just depends on what I feel like watching at the time though.

And sure, no problem with the friend request. :)

  21. Av and Sig are from the anime Bakemonogatari. ;)
  22. Changed it with matching winamp skin. :D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/Olurum/karanokyoukaidesktop.jpg
  23. Long time no post in here... Here's my current wall: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v290/Olurum/desktopnexus.jpg
  24. The UESP Gripes pages are a good source for finding out what's wrong with the game and what should be improved for future games. Bethesda should have a good long read there. As for my own views: More quest options and less hand holding. Everything should be in place from the get go. Items don't just appear when you need them for a quest. Accidentally sold a needed heirloom for a quest by thieving it earlier in the game? A new quest opens to track the heirloom down, did anyone see someone buying it? Finally found the new owner? Give him a quick stab in the back with a knife or scam him out of it or buy it off him, your choice.... In relation to the above: Some sort of system that solves quests being broken due to dead NPCs. No more 'essential' NPCs. Less fedex quest! Noone likes being sent to a random generic cave where you have to fight through every level/area because the item just so happens to be at the very end of the dungeon. Snoooore, boring! More voice actors (less famous ones!). This is pure assumption on my part, but it couldn't have been cheap to hire Sean Bean and Patrick Stewart. Save the budget for a bigger voice acting cast to get some diversity. More variation in character appearances. I swear to god that all imperial males looks the same to me. Women should be a little more feminine without the need for mods. Get rid of the shoddy levelling system. I hate how my character affects the entire world's abilities/availability of items in shops. Same problem persisted in Fallout, Horrible! Goblin takes 4 hits to kill when you're level 1 -> Goblin takes 10 hits to kill at level 20, why? Getting +5 attribute modifiers in the level up screen made the character do some incredibly strange things. Needs serious reworking. Again related to levelling, quest rewards should be a fixed value/item. It made me level myself up to a certain level while avoiding quests. Why should I be punished for doing a quest early? Good and Evil paths for everything. I don't care about canon endings, maybe I'm not the destined hero to save the world... it's an RPG after all, I can be anyone. I'd love to have told Jauffre to "Get lost! Send your blades to find Martin, I'm not your errand boy... I'm out of here!" Realistic guild promotions. I don't want to end up as the master of everything. That poor dude whos been in the Fighters Guild all his life is suddenly outranked by someone who joined yesterday? Maybe you could help a long standing member become the new master in promise of becoming his 2nd in command etc (which could involve less honorable methods such as murder/blackmail). Make it possible to somehow form your own 'quests'. You should be able to send people about to do things and thus become the 'evil scheming dude' yourself by plotting to become the new master of a guild/local town guard or overthrow towns/empires. Or frame a murder/fake a suicide to get hold of people's property. Real differences between Blunt and Blade and other weapons. So far I've never seen the use in having a dagger. Archery needs a serious reworking. I don't think hunters should have to carry 1000 arrows around just so they can take down that big ogre. Spells need a major overhaul (evident by the many, many magic mods). Spells need major variance in appearance and function. Less useless enchants. Finding an armor with "+5 speechcraft" and such are just bizarre. The stat system didn't work in a way to allow "+5" to any stat to be useful in the first place, plus they become worthless once you reach skill level 100. NO DIFFICULTY SLIDER! An RPG with a difficulty setting has fail written all over it, in my opinion. If everything is balanced and works correctly, without a broken/bizarre levelling system, then a slider shouldn't be needed. If you wanted challenge, then you should be able to go 'high level danger zones'... etc. Travelling NPCs should really be able to fend for themselves on the roads. Plus the roads are patrolled regularly, yet minotaurs and such still appear near them. NPCs make it fine between cities if you're not there to witness it... but if you follow an NPC then he'll be dead within 2 minutes after leaving the city gate. More realistic monsters/wildlife. Everything is out to kill you, all the time. They must have rabies!... well, except for deers. But seriously, you should sometimes come across a passive minotaur because he's already had a tasty snack out of the poor fellow that travelled the road before you.
