Darthsith
Currently deciding if I should invest my time in the game. I played the game a bit a few months back but ran out of free time and was not real sure on the total picture of the game. I made a list of pro's and cons and came out relatively even, which did not make things easier. Pros:Open World PvPReal Risk (opposed to no death penalty games like WoW/GW2/95% of MMO's)Bounty Hunting?Offline Skill IncreaseAlways improving contentCons:Too much space, not enough playersSpace Police (Gah... but I wanna kill that merchant ship!)GrindHeavily Advantaged Veteran PlayersSolo pvp not overtly viable Any advice or recommendations? samroski
ib4 Vindekarr adds "disgraceful community" to the cons  I disagree with the following Pros:Always improving content - some "expansions" make you feel that this is not true  I disagree with the following Cons:Too much space, not enough players - I feel totally the opposite. I want 100x the space. 1000x would be better. Too many players where I don't want them. Space Police (Gah... but I wanna kill that merchant ship!) - you can still kill the ship with the police around. Not solo though, for anything bigger than a hauler. Most haulers you should be able to solo kill quite easily in high sec. You'll take a security hit, of course. Grind - heh heh. I suppose the game demands some time/grind towards the beginning. For me, making a new account self sufficient takes about 6 weeks of training and 6-8 hours of play time. The account then earns enough to PLEX itself and make a tidy profit with about 4-6 hours of "grind" a month Heavily Advantaged Veteran Players - but this does not curtail your enjoyment of the game. I use low skill alts for a lot of fun in Eve. Am currently playing a new character in null sec, and cannot get enough of it. One of my RvB alts got his first 3 kills after a day and a half of training, and I had just as much fun playing him as my 5 year old alt. I am the wrong person to give you any further specific advice, as I'm hopelessly addicted to the game. Edited March 14, 2013 by samroski

Solo pvp is viable if you are patient and go hunting and be smart (cloaky bomber/recon can eat up unaware miners/ratters/idiots). q: Grinda: one of the reasons I left. You either have real life money to buy game time, or real life time to make game money to buy game time. I ran out of both :) q: Recommendationsa: Sounds like you would have fun joining a low security or null security corporation. A great group of people really makes the game because I found the most fun came from small group PvP fleets. You can learn from more experienced players. And in a good group they don't really care if you are flying a Tier 1 frigate. A T1 frig can lock down a ship just as well as more expensive ship. The universe is brutal and you have to play smart and strategize. It is not for the faint of heart which makes it all the more fun.
Jaradin
Note to you, DarthSith: this is not a game that you play for three to six months to reach the "end-game." EVE doesn't have one, and even if one could interpret such an ending through flying Titans or running an alliance, that takes more than three years to reach at best. EVE is probably the most challenging MMO ever made, the most complex game ever conceived on a day-to-day basis, and one where "fair" is not in your vocabulary. It doesn't hold your hand (even the latest tutorials still need some dedication) and you're going to cry tears and rage every so often. You're going to fly with corps that you don't like, you'll probably get griefed and popped several times, and you are going to likely have to start over - especially if you take risks to grow. EVE, in many respects, is real life virtualized into a space simulator. But damn does it offer you something new. Just look at the prestige some have attained through this game: look up "Vile Rat" on Google and you'll see what I mean. People can become legends in this game - not through stupid little viral videos like Leroy Jenkins, but through real, discernible actions. The Band of Brothers, Goonswarm, The Mittani, all these are names that you'll come to know through stories passed around the chat room about real events and real people that took real risks and gained real rewards. People lose REAL money in this game, not because they had to, but because they chose to risk their own money to gain quick, and burned just as quickly. This game is incredible, and yet it can chew you up and spit you back out in a jumbled mess. If you can accept that challenge and survive, then you're welcome to join this community of dedicated, mature players. But if that's too much for you, then you're welcome to keep with what the rest of the industry has to offer. There's no shame in that. Just remember the opportunity for growth that you'll be missing out to save yourself a lot of stress and time. But if you're still interested, I'll see you out there. I'm Isus Jarode in EVE, look me up. I'll help out however I can.Fly safe. o7 Edited March 31, 2013 by Jaradin

GlitchGirl
I realize this is an old post, but I figure I may as well contribute some information if you or anyone else viewing this thread is still considering this. This being said, I will happily recommend Eve-O for a number of reasons.1) It's community: No I am NOT speaking about their forums, but rather about the groups that you find in game, the people you will meet, and the friends you will make, and actually maybe a little bit to do with the forums.... still I mostly stay away from those >.> 2) It's sandbox factor: In this game if the mechanics allow it, you can do it. (outside of obvious glitches in the mechanic... no pun intended xD) Furthermore you can do it with no GM consequences. Still though, remember any in game actions you do will affect your security rating possibly, or how people will react to you. Next, you ships for the most part have no hard and fast of what you can and can't do outside of size restrictions; you'd be hard pressed to get a carrier sized thruster module on a frigate for example. Next there are many system in place. Everything from your typical pew pew kill the npc, to missions, bounty hunting, full exploration, randomly generating system (wormholes) and so on. 3) The sheer size and depth of the game, I suppose this could go hand in hand with the sandbox idea, but the number of systems in this game are astonishing and are definitely befitting an MMO.4) The devs actually care about the game. Now it may not appear that way due to some of the decisions at time, but more often than not the bad decisions have been stupid choices that where somehow pushed by one guy in too much power. Still in general the staff does care enough about the game. As evidenced by the game's fan base which has stayed pretty much steady, or has even continued to grow over the past 10 years. The downsides:1) TIME... now for me this is not so much of a downside, but I tend to be of the patient sort, But as you progress into the game, you will run into skills that take multiple months, and towards the end maybe even closer to a year to train. It happens so do not be surprised.2) The game is VERY VERY community oriented. This is NOT a solo game, not by any means unless you somehow find a very unique niche and you somehow get good with it (see individuals such as Cribba). As a result you will most definitely want to look into joining a corporation as you get started. I'd honestly recommend Eve-University for this. That's about it! I hope this helps someone! cicala
The only good paid MMO out there. I only played for a month because I wanted to try later not having the funds to continue... but if you have facination about scifi and you don't mind hitting a brick wall learning curve then bloody play it cause it's the best
