Larsjex
Just finished this quest (first time), actually didn't even know Dawnguard added it. What did you guys pick? I took the shield, though it seemed rather.. well, odd. Pacifist's shield? And am I the only one that's sorta gonna miss Katria? :P
IsharaMeradin
I took the crown. The crown seems to be the best of the three as you can use two standing stones at the same time. I used light armor so the armor choice wasn't an option. Rarely used shields and when I did it was the one from the Peryrite quest. I'm just bummed that unless you mod it the Aetherium forge is useless after making the one item...
Kayyyleb
Crown is the best considering how vastly better 2 standing stone buffs is compared to any other enchantment in the game. Plus it looks pretty cool.
Larsjex
Yeah, I wanted the crown, but my standing stones are missing.. completely. None of them are there. The only balance mods I use are ACE and ASIS and far's I know none of them remove the stones.Hrm
billyro
This was one of my favourite quests. I really like the insight into the Dwemer, the traps were nice, the new enemies were cool, the puzzles better than most... And yeah, I really liked Katria. I wish there was some way I could, I dunno, do something nice for her. The rewards were a bit stupid though. It always seems that rewards are stupid in Skyrim...I chose the crown too, because it was the only one I'd consider actually using. Then I never wore it because it looked dumb on my character. :P
mikeprok17
There is a mod that adds Aetherium swords to the inventory of the forge. The swords are already made so you do not have to forge them and they offer both a 1-hander and a 2-handed version. The weapons do extra magic damage on each hit but do not require any charging. The extra damage is in-line with a master enchantment, so it does not seem over powered. I liked this mod, since I really wondered what an Atherium weapons might be like. Just my $0.02, Mike

Her life's work was finding the Forge and you helped her do that even after death and she seemed genuinely grateful for it. :
mikeprok17
You also can get revenge for Katria. I was traveling around while wearing the Aetherium Crown that I made at the forge. I met a Dark Elf with a group of men, and he immediately recognized that my crown was made of Aetherium. He said something about me finding the forge and I made some remark that Katria and I found it. This caused the moron to attack me with his goons, which caused me to happily kill the lot of them. It turns out the Dark Elf is the same one that screwed over Katria and took credit for her life's work when she was researching the forge. Looks like the Dragon born gets to be the tool of Karma again.

I tried giving it to my female follower, but it didn't suit her either. Katria is one of those people that you want to just stick around. Like, I feel happy that she disperses at the end of the quest happily, but I'd still miss her. I was actually expecting her to become a ghostly follower after the mission was complete.
