Andrimner
Hello!I'm having a strange problem with Skyrim. I recently resumed playing the game, after a 6 month pause from it. It now seems the draw distance for buildings is ridiculously short. The city of Whiterun is now not visible even from the nearby farm and brewery. The lights from the windows are actually visible from there, but not the building itself. The same problem occurs with other cities. All the relevant sliders in settings are maxed out, and draw distance for other objects seems to be working all right.I have an Acer V3-771G, Intel i7 (2.30 Ghz), 12 GB RAM, NVIDIA Gforce GT 640m.I have been using some mods (Auto unequip ammo, complete crafting overhaul, Realistic ragdoll force, Deadly combat, dynamic merchants, green water fix for WATER, high res texture pack, RNG guards, Run for your lives, SkyTEST realistic animals, SkyUI, static mesh improvement, WARZONES, WATER, Weapons and armor fixes, Climates of Tamriel) plus Dawnguard - however, I tried loading the game with no mods. The problem was still there.I also tried adding ugridstoload=9 to my skyrim.ini, still no buildings.I've searched around a bit, and it seems other people have been having similar problems. However, I haven't seen a solution yet. Does anyone have any idea as to what can be done about the buildings draw distance? Couple of screenshots to illustrate the problem: http://s22.postimage.org/x5zuuer01/Screen_Shot2.png http://s17.postimage.org/dp7iuljcf/Screen_Shot6.pnghttp://s9.postimage.org/73jry6t0f/Screen_Shot7.png The college of winterhold is supposed to be on that rock, but as you can see - it isn't. Trees show up, tho.
Guss
Have you tried removing and letting skyrim re-install the .ini files or its not fully loading those cells? don't think it would be a mod, but from modding oblivion my 1st thought they are not set to visible from distance. just an idea. Andrimner
No, haven't tried that. Is it possible to do that without losing saved progress?
Guss
removing the .ini files from the your saves folder location won't hurt your saves but if you have custom settings they will be lost.
Andrimner
Ah, I see - delete the .ini-files, and start the game? Unfortunately, that didn't seem to work either... Btw, the only .ini-files I needed to delete were in the "my games/skyrim"-folder, right? Nothing on C:?
Andrimner
Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game. The problem's still there. Could it be that the problem is related to an upgrade or something?
TIGERshanked
I have the same thing happening to me as well. (and their was no pause in game play) so if anyone has any fix for this please help. it completely ruins the atmosphere of the game, and the immersion. Georgiegril
@Andrimner: Is that your complete mod list? When you uninstalled and reinstalled skyrim, did you apply your old savegame and mods list to the new download? If so, I would suspect the problem is related to a mod. Quality world map had that issue for a while, but I also saw it once without that mod. In my case verifying game cache was sufficient. Maybe you and TIGER could compare mod lists? Jaradin
I know what's causing the issue, but I didn't have the issue myself: a friend of mine did, and I don't remember his Nexus username. :( Give me a couple hours and I'll get it from him. Then I'll find the thread that had the solution. It has something to do with LOD files not decompressing properly in your game - that's why uninstalling and reinstalling won't solve it, as it's a problem with the way Skyrim is working on your computer. Since this thread will likely be forgotten by the time I find it, I'll try to PM it to each of you, Andrimmer and Tigershanked. Once I find it, I'll post it up in the thread for future reference to others. Update: Found the link! Kudos to my friend, the OP, for linking it to me. Please Help!! Huge LOD Issue Please refer to AcidZebra's post for the solution. Edited April 6, 2013 by Jaradin
irBrendon
I just had the same problem, after about an hour of frustration and failed attempts at fixing it, on a whim I decided to create a backup of my ini and delete the old one, worked a treat hope that helps anyone else having the issue
