Author Blocking

Feedback I'm providing:

1. Mod authors can be utterly unreasonable without any repercussions.

2. Nexus tells you to talk to the mod author to get unblocked, but does not provide so much as the author's name once you're blocked.

For the moment, I won't name any names, but there is a graphics mod for a game. There were several recommended settings on the mod page for making the best of the mod. One of the settings that I can recall is setting "toggle sneak" to on.

I made a comment, asking about the settings. My comment was extremely neutral. I didn't criticize. I merely asked/expressed confusion.

Next day, I come to look and the comment is gone. I'm super confused. I look around for any sort of notification, like that my comment has been deleted or a private message explaining why. I find nothing at all.

So, I mentally shrug and made a comment that said something like this:

"Some of the recommended settings make no sense to me. What does toggle sneak, for example, have to do with (your mod)?"

I then had my access to the mod blocked.

The blocked message tells me I can attempt to amicably resolve this with the page author (without providing any information on how to even find the page author's name.)

But, even if I knew how to contact them, I have no idea how to amicably resolve anything with someone who would act so unreasonably.

The message also tells me that Nexus moderators won't get involved.

Edit: I have noticed that for whatever reason, the comment itself is still there. So I was able to use my profile to find my way to the comment, and thus to the thread, and the mod author's name. However, even though I can do that in this instance, the problem would still exist if my comment had been removed, which I assume the mod author did in the first case.

This comment?

It's still there.

Sometimes people can hit the wrong button on their mod page.

I know of a couple of modders that didn't even realize they had blocked someone

I discovered it was still there as well. I edited the original post appropriately. The comment that I had made before is still missing.

I was attempting to keep this anonymous. Hunting down the comment, which says the mod name, and thus leads back to the mod author, runs counter to that.

All I had to do to find it was look at your profile, which brought me straight to the mod in question

The author name is not specified because it does have to be the uploader of the mod who blocks you, it can be someone with edit access to the mod page. As the message says, you should contact the mod author directly to resolve this. I have read your original comment and I can see how it could have been taken as a bit passive aggressive. Maybe an apology to the author for the misunderstand will help resolve this for you.

In any case, as the message says, this isn't something our moderators will get involved in.
