Petition to restitute the Mod "Cabbage in A Pot" on the Nexus

The Cabbage Mod was the most fun I've had on Nexus. If people couldn't see it was all for fun they have a serious issue. I saw a number of mod authors asking the same inane, uneducated, and annoying questions they face everyday from mod users who do not read the description page or anything else. You could see a happy steam being released from makers and users alike. Only when it hit the front page did some stiff backed posters start to view this as an affront to serious hard working modders. I was on the page for the last comments, indeed, I may have had the last one as the mod was gone when I refreshed. I saw a few posters berating the author and the other posters and one boasting of calling admin and demanding the removal. I saw the admins post of banning. And then it was gone.

Most chilling effect on all the participants involved. The sour view of one or two means the end of enjoyment for the vast majority. I'm sure it was a pressurized PC choice of the moment and mistakes are often made in those circumstances. This was just a reflection of the real world where free speech is under pressure. I don't want to see the CIAP mod back, there is no point, all the fun was beaten out of it by this.

EDIT: after a moments reflection I have changed my mind. I think CIAP should have a permanent sticky 7th space on the front page Hotfiles. Let it be what it was since the begining, a source of good humor and a valve for users and makers alike to vent the silly and frustratingly maddening fixes they get themselves into. Think of it as the humorous whipping boy mod of the Nexus.

You should be considering more the pressure from mod makers who felt unappreciated and took their frustration out on the author of this mod.

Zombie, the good news is, they are (taking concrete steps toward some underappreciation, anyway)! I can't wait until Dark0ne's proposed changes to endorsement system go live. It's bound to prod way more people into endorsing the mods they actually like. What we actually saw here yesterday in the hot files was the effect of "endorsement deficiency" (low endorsements in a given timeframe, even if a lot of people are downloading) on other deserving mods. It was just that CIAP was getting the kind of endorsement rate that bunches more mods should have as well.

This wasn't a rating thing this was a disrespect issue.

There is little chance now that this moddeer will ever try to improve.

I have no problem when people criticize a mod for valid reasons but I do habve a big problem when pompous people say a mod is unworthy of endorsements and especially when they demand it's removal on the basis that it has recieved them.

The only real criticism i can make is that it has a diurty edit but this is where learning begins. you start with something small and he had the smarts to make it something witty. only an idiot would rant against that.

I don't think that you know the author's mind, though trolling certainly is harsh on an author. However when you make a joke mod you know that someone is going to come at you, so I suspect thicker skin. Besides...just look at all this...and for every "why is this mod here" comment I saw today at least five that said they found some humor and joy from the mod.

Now some folks take modding really seriously...modders and users. We can't do much to change them.

I do want to note of all the reports we got on this mod....not one was because this author was being trolled.

There was that one death threat. I believe I reported that at the time.

EDIT: IIRC, I also sent in a series of several lesser-concern reports after that first one. Check report logs for "Not passing in silence?" if that's doable, and they may pop up.

There were many unpleasant comments along the lines of what i mentioned. I guess most people ignored the disrespect as it was missing the point of this mod. Also, did nobody complaining see the screenies? they were a lot to do with this mods popularity.

Agree wholearthedly however that is a "people" problem, and like Lisnpuppy said, there's not a whole lot that the moderators can do to stop it without specific enough reasons.

If you put something out there to be evaluated, you should excpect there will always be people that like it and people that don't. That's healthy. What isn't healthy is shutting one side down, on the basis that their opinion is diferent than my own.

A lot can also be said about constructive and destructive criticism and the forum has its own guidelines in respect to that. Thats why there are moderators. We should just wish/hope that they do their job's the best they can.

To sum mup.

I very much doubt that he would have removed a popular mod voluntarily.

So if that isn't the case then I need to ask.

Is bullying a new modder from this site just because some people hate the fact that he gained a lot of endorsements for a trivial mod acceptabler?

It wouldn't be the first time. And shouldn't be acceptable. I believe the forum guidelines contemplate the removal of this type of negative criticism. But they can't prevent it from being posted.

If a mod author decides to take down his mod on the basis of this criticism they also can't prevent it.
