mrphresh
Hello ! Im doin a playtrough of fallout 3 and im about 70 hours into the game, my question is if i randomly explore the map and enter random interiors/locations will it break quests ? I remember in fallout 4 i randomly explored and talked to an npc and later when the quest to meet this guy activated he wouldnt have that specific talking line and then i couldnt complete the quest...This is why im asking if walking around randomly is recommended.. isee that my question is answered for skyrim before when i google but never for fallout 3, thanks for any reply ! M48A5
Yes, you can break some quests by randomly wandering around and talking to NPCs.

laclongquan
Main Quest require you chase through tunnels. but if you go overland and straight to Rivet city you skip that entire section. or "randomly"wander up west-northwest to Smith Casey Garage to get V112 and skip even that part too. In FNV or F3, I chase after a quest target, but randomly wander over to an interesting feature (burnt house? silo tower? a friendly figure?) before I wander back to main route/direction. Example: From Republic Dave go to The Pitt's radio signal and I wander all over the northern edge. @mrphresh you should install some quest packs so you have reason to wander the maps... EDITY EDIT: and one point I want to stress from a player's POV:Quest-oriented exploration is much preferable to random wandering, much less tick-less (using mod to disable radar tick) wandering. If you dont give people a reason to explore and return, they are very much less likely to explore an area and or return to itWhy, you asked? Because wandering require good visual to tickle people's fancy so that they will wander that way off their main route. And good visual is subjective. Even if you make visual suit a majority of gamers, there's still a minor group wont like it and thus never bite that hook. Thus, it's much better that you designs reasons for people to explore or return to certain locations. Examples:Why is Old Olney is a much returned location? because it has link to several quests nearby: agatha's, Republic vote, Shoot them in the head, and later on a quest in Broken Steel stage. Why is Roach King's location a much ignored location? Because what reason do you have to visit that unique place with throne and roaches? no quest. no loot to reward exploration. That roach throne is nice but roachhaters are not gonna visit that shitty place. Edited April 30, 2022 by laclongquan
