Haven't we had this conversation before?

Stormcloaks:

Pros: Very cathartic and proud.

Cons: Very cathartic and proud.

Imperials:

Pros: Very patronizing.

Cons: Very patronizing.

Okay, let's look at it this way... Doing the whole Civil War quest either way:

Stormcloaks: You get to kill a lot of people for no apparent reason other than some dispute over what the Thalmor are doing half a world away.

Imperials: You get to kill a lot of people to help prop up an aging, crumbling pathetic empire built by a dead "god" (who apparently can't be bothered to intervene in his own affairs).

Pros: None.

Cons: A repetitive, depressing-as-hell quest that gives for reward only the right to own Hjerim (which is admittedly a very nice house), a Word Wall, and an ugly crown (that you don't get to keep).

No one put down "No More Thalmor" as a Pro for the Stormcloaks? Fine, I'll do it ...

Stormcloaks:

Pro

Skyrim Free of Thalmor

Con

Difficult to Find Thalmor to Kill

Imperials:

Con

Skyrim Crawling with Thalmor

Pro

Target-Rich Environment

Imperial here...I almost never run into Thalmor.

I nearly always side with the Empire and have a great time killing Thalmor

you just need to talk to them twice when they are escorting a prisoner and they attack you for being a Talos worshipping Heretic and you get to kill them without incurring a bounty :D

from all the play throughs I've done I have worked out that the only reason the Thalmor are in Skyrim is because of Ulfric and the Markarth Incident (and Ulfric's role in demanding free worship of Talos as a reward might have been engineered by the Thalmor before they let him escape after they took the Imperial City)

if Ulfric had done the same as the High King and other Jarls and just worshipped Talos without making a fuss there would be no Thalmor in Skyrim.

Ulfric's actions are to blame for at least one of the reasons he gives for the Rebellion, so the con for siding with the Stormcloaks is that it aids the Thalmor.

Ulfric's going to lead the world in revolution thanks to our old buddy Talos.

Like Hammerfell isn't going to go absolutely berserk with Thalmor-killin' with just the perfect excuse for doing it ...

"We don't like Nords and we don't care about Talos."

"You'll get to kill a whole lot of Thalmor ..."

"Praise Talos! Where do I sign up?"

Somebody needed to light the Thalmor-killin' fuse. Why not Talos?
