Aye mate. And the only one I'll really miss is Halo, probably my favourite FPS ever made(for the story, and the fact 343 actually put any effort into the campaign) and it may resurface on PC at a later date anyway. Be sure to check out my other thread though, the STEAM box may interest you aswell because of the modding aspects, if you want variety.

I am glad the new consoles are finally being released as it will allow everyone to have much nicer looking games with all the nice dx11 features and optimizations that come along with it. (and the games will be made for AMD cards so I can hopefully expect better 'out of the box' optimization since I am an AMD guy)

The major downside about this generation is that it will not even be close to equal with PC's on release. The first Xbox was something else on its release with console optimization and a high end equivalent gpu. The next generation of consoles (PS3 and 360) were about on par with PC hardware. The current high end PC hardware is significantly better than the consoles will be on release (A computer with a two generation old 5970 is pretty much on par with the PS4). The hardware in the PS4 is good, but between them holding off until holiday 2013 and the supposed 20nm jump in 2014 I don't think it will be very long before the PC starts receiving the standard console ports we get now. Neither Sony or Microsoft is really going out on a limb here and trying something new except Microsoft I guess is going the heavy DRM route  . Maybe if we are lucky Microsoft will partner with Ubisoft and create the ultimate DRM: 3 different login screens, two forced file checkers, a build in system software scanner, always online requirement, subscription fee and an automated ban system to delete your account if you have tried to mod the game ;D .

The PS4 is looking much better than the 720 in both hardware and policies but I really wished at least one of them would have tried to push something new.

(I really though the new xbox name was a joke when I first heard about it, I get the 360 was supposed to be 'a revolution in gaming' but now they are just going in circles ;D, it is a really bad naming scheme they are going for)

Anyways, here was Nvidia's logarithmic graph showing next gen consoles: I know the titan isn't a fair comparision but it is about 50% more than a 7970 or 680 so you could easily know where the top single cards stand.

Hopefully there will be a big push in Linux gaming. I really want to switch but I have too many games and programs that require Windows and have never been a fan of dual boot.

Yet and more complaints keep rolling in, i can see them losing about 70% of their fan base with this move.

You didn't actually get what I was saying. If the PS4 has a drm that producers don't like for it being weak, or gets in the way. Then the producers will have their devs work on only one console.

What if the 720 isn't gonna be selling because people don't want an "always online" DRM on a console system? DRMs be damned, which ever console sells the most is going to get the most attention from the developers.

This will be the make or break for the future generations of gaming when it comes to "always online" DRMs. If sales are bad because of it then its unlikely they will pursue that route again, and will probably attempt to save face by issuing a patch to remove the always online DRM.

Also as a result of the always online DRM, there will be hackers who make mods for the system to circumvent it. If there is a demand for people who want to play the games on the system but absolutely refuse to tolerate an always online DRM, then modding the 720 will be a pretty big market.

I'm sick of this attitude from developers, when its been clear the majority of the gaming community has spoken out harshly about always online DRMs. Their attitude is they don't care if you like it because you will buy it anyway. And I hope they get an attitude adjustment by poor sales directly related to their arrogance.

Surely they're going to have to back down on this? they don't have a monopoly like they do with PC OS's yet they're behaving as if they do. Can you imagine the damage a Sim City/Diablo3 server overload could do to the brand?

More news of the always on drm from microsoft.

it looks like its being removed as of now, and the release windows and reveal may have been pushed back do to the complaints and outrage it produced.

You've nailed it completely Jim. All that needs to happen is one, maybe more than one, total launch fiasco a la Diablo 3 or Sim City, and MS's going to look like a bunch of total spanners. Not only does even having it tick players off, but the shear potential for failure, is ridiculous. We'll only need one bad launch I think, to cause a community backlash, and with Ubisoft Activision and EA all being quite complacent of late, it's pretty inevitable. I think MS's real reason is to try and attract more people onto Live Gold; unlike PSN, which is free, Xbox Live requires a hefty yearly sub fee, MS makes a fair bit of it's money off this and I reckon they're mostly doing this as a subtle way to boost the subs.
