Fallout New Vegas freezes on fullscreen, but works fine on windowed?

It freezes on the copyrights section, then cuts to the title screen, then the screen freezes. I'm essentially blind - i can hear the clicks as my mouse hovers over the selections, but its frozen and i cant see it happen. But it works as normal when i use windowed mode instead of fullscreen? Can someone help?
