why is conspiracy such a common problem ? how can we contribute to solve it and why do many people do not even try or able to solve it and instead support or spread it ? are we just to lazy, overwhelmed or is (social) media including advertisement too aggressive ?

Humans conspire often to gain power and money and have done so through the history so it's better to not trust everything you're told by people who want to rule over you

Well said :)

However the problem is more insidious than it first appears.

"Conspiracy Theory" has unfortunately been given a rather negative, even accusatory meaning these days, but the truth is in the name itself. It's simply a theory that a particular conspiracy exists - i.e. it's one of possibly many explanations of events or circumstances. So there is nothing inherently "wrong" with a conspiracy theory. The trouble begins when people DON"T take the time to actually learn the facts for themselves and come up with their own conclusions. And sadly most don't.

Even worse is that Academia is now proselytising and encouraging people NOT to think critically or do their own research, but to simply follow the "approved" doctrine or narrative. They even try and claim that "science" is done by consensus and not by rigorous research and exhaustive, objective experiment and data collection by people who do NOT follow the consensus.

The attack on freedom of speech instead of providing logical and reason based facts to refute alternative views and lack of trust in main stream news and media = the perfect conditions for a thriving conspiracy breeding ground.

If your rebuttal to someone is "You're a Racist"! and they know they are not only reinforces the conspiracy movement.

But look back in history. Look at all of the Conspiracy theories that turned out to be true: https://www.rd.com/list/conspiracy-theories-that-turned-out-to-be-true/ (and there are many more)

Then we have the Flat Earth Society. Or maybe the folks that deny the moon landing.... Among others.

Just because you can back your argument with facts, does not necessarily imply those that really want to believe, will change their mind...... Even today, we have folks building rockets to launch themselves, to prove the earth is flat.... Well, one less since last year......

Hmmm, I dunno, I think that's a little bit to broad of a net your casting. Do we consider all Catholics to be "conspiracy theorists" because they believe some guy in Rome can actually speak to, and on behalf of, an imaginary deity figure?

I don't think the personal choice to ignore undeniable facts automatically makes one a "conspiracy theorist". just perhaps at best a fool.

But then again, does the label require a certain number of people to believe the theory before it's no longer considered a "conspiracy theory" and instead becomes "consensus"?

a short first summary from my side:

at first thank you all for at least trying to show so much effort reading my debate material and trying to to seriously deal with it.

and thank you all for taking part in this debate! it would not have seen even one contribution without you all!

the debate and the kind of contributions developed very close to what i expected so far, taking into account who posts most commonly in political or plain stupid debates here.

most of my questions are answered but please go ahead! i'm very interested to see more contributions of this quality. even rocket scientists can and should learn from that.

I suppose that depends on just how you define 'conspiracy theory'...... Its possible that religion could fall into that category, but, that is quite likely a discussion we can't have here. :)

Oh, by the Eight ( or Nine? ) No! We don't want to go down that rabbit hole. :)

Tangentially it does however bring up a point. Much of what is considered "conspiracy theory" is based on our current world view. Take for example the once widely held belief that the earth was the centre of the solar system, a view rigorously defended and proselytised by the Catholic Church. There was this one fellow you may have heard of called Galileo, who had this heretical "conspiracy theory" that this may not be the case.
