Vortex Stuck on Purging Mods

I am using Vortex 1.1.3.22 on Win10. I have 32Gb of RAM. I recently got a new PC with a second HDD. Not knowing what I was doing, I installed Vortex onto the C drive instead of the D drive where my games are installed. I modded the game, Dragon Age II, started it and noticed that the mods were not working. Realizing I needed to change which drive the mods were installed, I went into settings to change the mod staging folder to the D drive. When I hit 'Apply' I get a message that Vortex is purging the mods and it just sits there eating RAM and GPU and not doing anything. I let that happen for 6 hours and then came to the conclusion that nothing was happening. So, I uninstalled Vortex, reinstalled the custom install on the D drive. Vortex still wants to put my mods on the C drive. I uninstall the mods. Then I purge them. I get a notice that Vortex is purging the mods but again nothing happens.

TLDR, I'm stuck because Vortex won't purge mods and seems to be stuck when I try to purge mods.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

YOu can install Vortex ANYWHERE, the only thing that needs to be on the same drive as the game is the mod staging folder.

When moving the Mod Staging folder you should PURGE THE MODS FIRST, then move the folder.

YOu need to delete the C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\Vortex folder, because that's where all the settings are stored

It might also be C:\users\YOUR NAME\appdata\roaming\BlackTree Gaming\Vortex

You don't Uninstall the Mods, THEN Purge them.

You PURGE them, then Uninstall Them.

By uninstalling them first, then telling Vortex to Purge, you're telling Vortex to purge stuff that's no longer there, so it keeps trying to do something it can't because you've already uninstalled the mods.

I reinstalled the mods, clicked purge mods and then the little circle thingy rotated and a notification popped up that something was deploying. Nothing else happened; it's as if the program is stuck. Just to experiment, I tried to enable the mods and the same thing happened. It's as if the program isn't working at all now. So I uninstalled and then reinstalled with the same results: nothing.

Any suggestions?

Did you DEPLOY the mods after you installed them, and BEFORE you clicked on PURGE?

  • 6 months later...
would anyone be willing to have a look at my mods and tell me how to order them. What is the best way to send you a list of my mods? I only play fallout 4 because of people's modding skills!! If anyone can manage it, please help me. It would only take you a few minutes. I use vortex now since mod manager 2 is beyond my modest abilities. I have tried nmm too with no luck. my HD crashed. I have vortex and steam and fo4 all installed on my main 1t ssd. The game and f4se load almost instantly and my frame rates are good. I'm using thuggy's grind free setting files as well as everything else he has created. But I can't get everything to work now... So I was praying someone will help me again. It has been 6 years I think since Thuggy organized my mods. It took him like 10 minutes. I'm bedridden so playing fo4 is my only source of joy in my life. But I have been struggling for 2 months trying to get my mods ordered correctly and I just can't do it. I have 247 mods.
