Bhanqwa
"It's not easy being a woman in Skyrim, I know. But stay strong, men will come to respect you, and maybe even fear you."And then she proceeds to tell the next male passing by: "What's the matter, can't stand the sight of a strong Nord woman?"... jup, sure to earn their respect that way.I imagine my male character replying with: "I'll let you know when I find one." MuffinofPeace
Personally speaking, I like playing as a female. I feel like I'm doing my gender a service when I take my BA nord chick and just kick tail. I don't play around with mods. I have dimonized UNP, the converter for UNP, Apachii Sky Hair, and a personal mod I made to make Farkas look a little better. I don't spend hours dressing up and changing my hair. I play to kill and feel powerful. I'm thinking after a couple of play throughs as a female I will play as a male.
cruzkitwiz
If anything you will look better playing a female. Female are much better looking in Skyrim (with hair and skin mods) and you have a larger range of skins (boobs) to jump into. The males are pushed more towards the look of Arnold or Thor with skins that are chiseled straight from the heart of the most manliest stone you can find. (of course, while using mods). Again, play a farmer! Maybe even a crazy necromancer or just walk around the game and watch the weather in the nude... Your choice!

ImperialMan2
Its pretty much the same but you may get little changes when speaking with npcs. Edited April 30, 2013 by ImperialMan2
BrotherBob
Technically, if I recall correctly, there is a slight gameplay advantage to playing as a female character. If you complete the quest (as either male/female) The Heart of Dibella, you earn an ability, Agent of Dibella, that allows you to cause extra damage to the opposite sex. Since most humanoid, hostile NPCs in Skyrim are males, female characters will profit more form this ability. So, in sum, if challenge excites you, then playing as a male might be better in this regard. If pwning everything excites you, playing as a female might aid in your endeavor. gsmanners
Most bandits are male. Among warlocks, vampires and necromancers, the male/female ratio is pretty even. However, there are almost no male witches/hags. Forsworn are mostly male, and if you fight for the Stormcloaks, you'll find your enemies are nearly all male. There are female draugr, though. Best not to make too many hasty assumptions.
BrotherBob
@gsmanners: I'm pretty sure that, based on the information you provided, my assumption that most enemies are males is pretty spot on. I mean, most enemies that a player would encounter on a complete playthrough will be bandits. Since the male/female ratio of warlocks, vampires, and necromancers is "pretty even", those NPCs don't really tip the scales in either direction. Witches and hags are not abundant in the game and only appear in a handful of dungeons. Forsworn and guards and soldiers are, like you said, mostly male. Finally, in my experience, though female Draugr exist, I'm quite sure that most are males.
gsmanners
Well, I admit that is true if you insist on playing everywhere with your character (which I don't). For example, my Bosmer I played strictly in The Pale and Winterhold didn't encounter one Forsworn, and though there are quite a few bandits, there are also a lot of warlocks and necromancers. There was also that one ruin where it's just strictly female draugr and female ghosts till you get to the boss guy.
