My vortex is stuck on (preparing game for modding) and (starting deployment). This is for (SSE)

This is my first time using vortex, I have installed all of my mods but I cant seem to get anything to actually work.

Whenever I load up vortex, it gives me a message saying "Access Denied, the mod directory for this game is not writable to your user account, if you have admin rights on this system (which I do), Vortex can change the permissions to allow it to write access.

I then press "Allow Access", and the program proceeds.

The Next problem is that in the notifications tab, the message "preparing game for modding", (for SSE) is constantly there and never makes any progress or error message.

If I ignore this fact, when I go to try and deploy mods, the access denied message appears again, to which I then "allow access, even then the notification "starting deployment" also appears that proceeds to gain no progress or produce any error messages.

There are no guides on the internet for any of the problems I am facing as far as I am aware, and anything close to my problem I have tried to its full extent.

Can someone please help me.

Yes, My download and mods folders are on the same drives,

I cannot make my files not read only, it just resets to read only each time I go to change it.

Just for further resources, for some reason the game is saying "the game needs to be run once before it can be modded", it then starts to look in the wrong drive?

It doesn't matter if your Download and Mod folders are on the same drive, what matters is if your Mod Staging Folder is on the same drive as your game.

Go to SETTINGS------>MODS

What is your Deployment Method?

Are you the administrator of your computer, and are you on the Administrator account?

My method is hardlink Deployment, And I am the Admin of my PC and I am on the only account.

Are you running Windows Defender?

If so, turn OFF "Controlled Folder Access" and try to deploy

If you're running some Free Antivirus, turn it off and try to deploy, Free AV programs do a better job of preventing you from accessing your computer than most viruses do

Im going to exclude vortex from my antivirus, is that what youre getting at? Because I dont really want to turn off my antivirus so that I can run a game.

-EDIT:

I have also disabled access protection on my antivirus. And yes, don't laugh at me but I'm using mcafee

its not about turning off anti virus to run a game, it's turning off the anti virus to stop it playing havoc with your mod manager.

what anti-virus are you running?

i would strongly urge you to change your anti-virus program, but removing that POS is almost as painful as re-installing windows.

it will interfere in every part of your computer and make using it a toil. also it gobbles up so much cpu and internet bandwidth for literally no pay back.

however - its your system, so you do you.

vortex will be impacted by macafee because that's what it does best. how you manipulate it to allow you to run a program of your choosing on your system without it causing impact is another story.

once you've figured that out and you can get vortex to run without impact, you'll be on the way. but until then, you're going to struggle. good job macafee.
