Korumera
Hi,Got a small problem and I've allready looked up some stuff but my game crashes when it uses more then 3,1GB of memory. I've installed Skyrim Performance Monitor to monitor the usages of memory and stuff like that. It comes down to this. I can play just fine most of the time, but last night i've downloaded a player home and when I entered I noticed that the memory usages was increasing fast. It hit the 3,1GB mark and it CTD without a warning. I've tested this like 5 times and every time when it hit the 3,1GB mark it crashes. Does any of you know a fix for this or is it just the engine that's bad (I know about optimizing textures and stuff but i'm only using the 2K HD textures and some others not that much) I also think that a lot of people have this issue without being aware of it :) Thanks in advance! PS: At work on the moment so no way to give my loadorder i'll do that when i'm at home.
prod80
I use about 120 mods and cannot reach 3.1GB.If you have a 32-bit system (Windows) that 3.1GB is your more or less the absolute limit (Amazing to reach it in the first place). Once reached it crashes.I would have a look at what mods you're using and what you really need to use. Also, where does it crash (Interior/Exterior), Papyrus logs (if you dont have - google how to get them), BOSS log (conflicts, dirty stuff), your system specs, etc...There's a billion reasons for skyrim to crashEDIT: I haven't read well. Just uninstall the player home and see if game goes back to normal. If you really need the player home for whatever reason, and you can show it's THAT mod that is causing this (new game(!!!) with only that mod enabled and still having the issue) - go to the mod's author. Georgiegril
I just want to add, the limitation is there because Skyrim is a 32-bit program. The problem exists on 64-bit Windows systems as well.Like prod said, if the player home mod is causing you to rapidly increase memory usage, removing it is probably the easiest solution, though it may just be a matter of that player home being the final straw, so if you really like it, you might try reducing memory load elsewhere. TonyTitan
Papyrus logs won't really help. They're not error logs. Plus Skyrim usually crashes before Papyrus will report it. And then what it does report might not even be the script that was involved with the crash. By all means though...look at those logs and take note of what all scripts are in fact running. You might even notice scripts running from mods you no longer have installed....IF...you see signs of that, THAT is where some of your problems might be. And if that is happening a lot, that will tell you that you're going to have to find a save game PRIOR to when you had the offending mod installed, in order to get yourself past that buggy script. Korumera
OkayI'll take a look at that when i'm at home. I'm running 64bit Windows 7 with 16GB memory so that shouldn't be a problem. I'm aware of the fact that skyrim is a 32bit program thoi've had issues with crashes and freezes so i've reinstalled skyrim and all it's mods started over again (new save game) and the loading screen freezes are gone. But the crashes started with the player house mod. I'll continue gaming without and see if it happens againI'm using BOSS and it says it has some dirty edits for this mod. And I havent installed all the mods I normally use because of the freezes but i'll see what happens when I remove it  and ill enable papyrus loging. prod80
I just want to add, the limitation is there because Skyrim is a 32-bit program. Skyrim can use 4GB on a 64 bit system (when you have more than 4GB of RAM), Windows 32 bit can only allocate ~3.2GB of memory for everything (programs + OS) despite in theory it should be able to address 4GB. You can count on stuff becoming instable when going over 2GB addressed by a single program on a 32 bit system... There's a definite advantage of running 64 bit OS when using memory intensive programs. Anyway, that is not the problem... his memory is being eaten by some mod... given the information this only started after installing this home mod, I'd say it's probably there. But this in no means should mean that it IS there. It can just as well be some incompatibility between his already running mods and this home mod where the home mod is not at vault... perhaps some interior lighting mod. Testing should be done to narrow down the exact problem. It's a tedious job (dont tell me, I've been there too many times). Yes, exactly... that's what I meant... I'm not looking for the cause of the crash. Papyrus will just report problems underway... lot of crashes later on are caused by constant installation and uninstallation of mods (especially scripted ones) which keep lurking around in your save files until on day, when the time is right, they have everything go banana's. If Papyrus is full with errors that it cannot find things or is unable to execute things because of ERROR whatever, try a new game first before going into finding other causes for the issue. Load order can also cause this problem... load your new home higher up in your load order... despite what BOSS tells you to do, it's just a guide line, use some common sense instead... Interior/Exterior environment mods need to go high up in your load order. See if you can follow this logic; go from BIG to small. Meaning; large objects come first (=texture changes) and small objects go last (weapons, armors, candle smoke). After environment changes put the lighting/weather mods followed by player mods (eyes, hair, etc) followed by scripts for better combat and whatever you have. Example; [MAIN GAME ESM's][ADDITIONAL ESM's][sKYRIM Unofficial patches][Texture pack 1][Texture pack 2][Flora pack][Flora extension pack][i love these extra trees pack][MyWater pack][My towns texture overhaul][My other town texture improved][This tiny mod to put a book on a certain table][Weapons 1][More weapons][badass armor][Lighting mod][Weather mod][big nasty evil eyes mod][smelly feet mod][Crazy real combat script][sign lalala whenever you enchant an item script][Jump around like a jellyfish killmove script]
MaidenUSA
One thing to bear in mind also is that it's not just RAM involved, but VRAM as well. If you don't have one already, find a utility that monitors how much VRAM you're using at any given point. I had a similar situation to yours in that I installed a mod and saw my computer memory usage go through the roof and the game crashed. When I checked my VRAM it was shooting up to just over 1gb (the card's max). When you exceed the limit of the video card it attempts to swap data with the ram. So if you couple that with an already limit challenging amount of mods, it's bound to CTD. Once I deactivated the mod, back to normal. FYI I see prod80 said it's hard to believe you can eclipse the memory barrier, but trust me, even with a moderate amount of mods and texture improvements, the memory limit is reached in Skyrim VERY easily. Korumera
I've got a videocard with 3GB memory on it and Skyrim Performance Monitor can show the amount used the max it uses is 2,5GB with an avarage of round 2GB so that shouldnt be the problem. But i'll make some changes to the load order first (i'll have to reinstall the mod first tho) and we'll see what happens. I do have the special RLO version of the mod perhaps that's causing problems i'll install the normal one instead (should be back home in an hour). If you have a special 'RLO version' of anything, be sure you put it on the correct place in the load order... perhaps this home mod requires RLO to be loaded before it, or it's only compatible with version X of RLO and you're using version Y... the author should mention version numbers for compatibility (I'd hope).. RLO changed a lot. Your memory on system/VGA should be more than enough for skyrim if you dont try wacky stuff in skyrim/skyrimprefs.ini You can try to uninstall RLO as well (should not harm your game), using the normal version of your home mod... perhaps the compatibility is not that compatible after all :P Anyway, goodluck... hope you get it fixed
Korumera
Yeah i'm at home on the moment installed the mod again and put it higher up the load order. But still it crashes. When using fast travel after I've loaded my save game it goes from 2GB tot 1,4GB and then loads the player home for about 600mb. I can walk around but as soon as I enter the home it loads more data and it reaches the 3,1GB en CTD.
