Im gonna have to kick it old school here folks...

C-64 Pools of Radiance

Curse of the Azure Bonds

Secret of the Silver Blades

Pools of Darkness

with the ability to transfer your characters from one game to the next made for Epic adventures back then. This series is probably my favorite, because they take place in the Forgotten Realms.

Also for the C-64

Champions of Krynn

Death Knights of Krynn

Dark Queen of Krynn

This series takes place in the DragonLance setting, and differs only slightly with the races ingame.

I have and still play these games occasionaly from time to time. I have all the original Gold Box editions with backup copies of the disks.

Also in that collection are Hillsfar, Bards Tale I and II. But the first 3 listed are my most favorite games of all time.

.....now THAT is retro folks!

Like maYuYang, I can't pick a single title, so I'll post my top 3:

Alien vs Predator - Atari Jaguar

Though simple by the standards of 1994 the game was the MUST HAVE game for the short lived atari jaguar. Ironically, it was made by Rebellion, the people behind the most recent AVP title, and also has the distinction of being the first AVP title to be an FPS. THough the controls and abilities of each character were simple, they did the job.

Parasite Eve - PSOne/PSX

PE was my first foray into RPGs, and needless to say I was hooked by the end of the first day of playing it. I don't know what it was - the realistic aspects, the movie-like story or just experiencing the joys of an RPG. Since then, I've moved on to other RPGs(Fallout, Final Fantasy, The Elder Scrolls, just to name 3 of them) and I may get killed for this but I personally think PE1 is better than FF7 - bu that's just based on my tastes(can't stand love stories in games)

Contra - multi

Ok, no need to go into detail here - run around and shoot everything. This must have been GTA's great-great grandfather LOL

There are a few others that I love but not as much as the above 3(Armored Core(PSOne & PS2 - 4 & For Answer on PS3 I can't Stand), Robocop vs Terminator(SNES & Genesis), and Shinobi(Genesis) ) are a few honorable mentions.
