donwoolf
Well, there was a game which integrated the two ever-favourite genres (shooting and driving). It was the INTERSTATE '76 from Activision. http://www.fortunecity.com/underworld/fifa/168/ints76.jpg If interested, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_%2776

phforNZ
The entire Marathon trilogy (awesome - just a shame that it got overshadowed by Doom)The Settlers I (I believe the US got it as Serfs & Settlers)Dune 1 + 2Speedball 2 (best sports game ever)(oh, I also have a nice old game lying about somewhere... by the name of TES:Arena  - borderline retro I guess) And, geez, since when has CnC been called retro? Did I miss a memo? Last I checked, retro was early-90s or earlier...
jaosals42
Hmm... I've recently been playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 (year 1999) and it's really my favourite game of the series. IMO, the second and especially third games in this series were really not all that good. The second could often get boring as you really weren't trying to achieve access to tougher scenarios anymore (really just playing for nothing) and the third I really disliked because they introduced the idea of fines, with some of the fines being issued for the most pointless reasons... Besides... the third game was really buggy upon release...
JamesTJ
first, the Ascii games - they are the reason I use the @ as my avatar. 1 Moria2 Unangband3 Ancient Domains of Mystery non-Ascii games 4 Masters of Orion I and II5 Iter Vehemens ad Necem (2001, but retro nonetheless)
Monolithic0117
Ancient Domains of Mystery I have good memories of that game. I once completed the Lawful ending by using a Dwarven Paladin, and also used several wishes.

Varus Torvyn
Final Fantasy VIII, and Kennedy Approach (an air traffic control simulation). The latter was originally an 8-bit simulation, and was never ported to Windows until just recently. Runs exactly like the original did.
