Vortex installation

Hello, I have used Vortex many times in the past but recently reinstalled it (Vortex 1.0). However, after reinstalling it there is no launcher anywhere on my computer but only the installation file. This file does open Vortex but it makes me go through the installation again after closing Vortex every time. Overall its not unbearable, but I know it is not supposed to do this and was wondering if maybe I am not doing it correctly. Not sure whether posting links in here is okay or not but this is where I got the install from. I'm fairly certain it is legit just wondering why I have to reinstall every time and no launcher shows up after installation.

The latest version of Vortex is 1.4.11, why would you download such an old version?

 

Try turning off your antivirus program in reinstalling Vortex, also, click on START (windows Start) type in VORTEX, then select in the right hand pane "Open File Location" and it should bring you to the Vortex Shortcut, which you can right click and drag to the desktop and selecting COPY

Also, make sure you DO NOT have that obnoxious Microsoft OneDrive set so that it backs up and restores your desktop, because every time you try and add something, or remove something from your desktop, OneDrive will either Add it back, or Remove it.

It drove me nuts one time when I kept deleting desktop items I didn't want only to watch them not delete because OneDrive was restoring them as fast as I was deleting them.

Hello, thanks for the response. I apologize it was 1.4.11 that I downloaded I just misread the page. However, nothing appears when I type Vortex in the start menu besides the installation exe file. I also do not have OneDrive and have made sure that no antivirus would interfere with the installation.

going to say that if you can't find it then its not installed properly.

If all you have is an install.exe then you haven't installed vortex or you TRIED to install it, and your antivirus prevented it from installing

If your Antivirus is Windows Defender, turn off "Controlled Folder Access"

Turn off your antivirus and reinstall vortex

Ok so I figured it out. It was always working and I would be able to open it and add mods fine so it was not broken per se. For some reason the launcher was not showing up in the windows search bar forcing me to open the app by reinstalling it. By pinning the app to the task bar once I had it opened I was able to open the file location. Long story short everything's good now, thanks for the feedback everyone.

Interesting that it didn't show up in the start menu as VORTEX APP, with the option to Open the file location.

 

Well, you did what I always do when updating Vortex, I always keep mine pinned to the taskbar.

Now remember, each time you update, Vortex will disappear from your taskbar, so you'll have to re-pin it after you update every time.
