revenger681
Cool, thanks for the reply even if it was kind of off topic. I still dream of the day I can listen to gnr on fallout 3 stutter free, but oh well, I'm glad fallout nv doesn't have the same issues, I'll definitely get it on pc then. mrfruits
If anyone is having troubles with the radio music still please read what i have to say. I tried every thing in this post and the only thing that worked was disabling codecs that i did not need. It took me like 10mins to pick the only ones i needed to get the music and sounds going again but no more choppy radio!!!! THANK YOU who ever posted this help guide I love you! g8rk0k
tried using lame mp3 codec which worked just fine on my old pentium 4 I used to play this game on. I think the biggest difference is that I have a sound card in the old one, a turtle beach catalina. in my new one I have an i7 930 on a gigabyte motherboard and integrated sound which is realtek HD audio. I installed mad filter, disabled ffdshow and sorted my codecs so that lame has priority. Mad filter helped a whole lot but I still get radio stutter on occasion. For some reason though, the conelrad mod (the one made by the same folks who did the existence station) works far better than the other ones do. Most of the time trouble is in the very start of the song or when an area is loading. Sometimes I hear the last 1-2 seconds of the songs ending repeat before it moves on. Wonder if there was some synching issue. Could have something to do with the fact that some sounds effects are out of synch, (only very few though) the only one I can think of is when a vault door is opened or closed, the sounds seems to be running up to something like 4 seconds behind so that when you hear the sound of the door rolling it has finished opening/closing and has come to a stop already. I also noticed that there are nvidia audio drivers installed somewhere and listed somewhere in the sound properties. Don't know why a video card would need audio drivers... I have no idea what they are for and have no intention of messing withe them.
phoneyLogic
Hey there, thanks for poting. So, you still have stutter? I don't recommend to mess around the codec priorities since this never did the job for me. Mad filters do work, as far as I know only on Vista or Win7 systems, but not in any case. High definitions gfx cards with so called HDMI connectors quite often also bring along audio codecs. You could connect a TV via HDMI and also get the sound via the same port. For some reason though, the conelrad mod (the one made by the same folks who did the existence station) works far better than the other ones do.If I recall that correctly, these stations use the ogg format. Ogg files are not affected by the audio stutter at all. But for the average user it is almost impossible to replace those ogg files in a convenient way. MP3 stations are way more easy to customise, but they can be affected by the stutter bug. The engine also needs to get the "right" format, as described here:http://www.fallout3nexus.com/imageshare/image.php?id=4219 If you use variable bit rates, you get those repeating last seconds. Fallout wants to have constant bit rates.
bumbousdude25
Hey, first-time poster on the forums, but I just had to post to give a big thanks to tortured Tomato for the guide and seaofsorrow for the fix that actually worked for me. I have the k-lite codecs and MAD filter, and Fraunhofer was disabled. Originally, this did nothing to stop the stuttering. However, I unregistered MAD, re-unpacked it, put the register bat and .ax in SYSWOW64, registered it through command prompt, disabled Fraunhofer, and voila! No stuttering! :D Thank you! EDIT: I have Win 7 64-bit, btw. EDIT #2: Oh, and here's the link to seaofsorrow's post for other newcomers that this might help: 88 Edited June 22, 2011 by bumbousdude25
Barleyman
I'll add my experience. I bought cheapo Steam discount new vegas and decided to finally finish fallout3 main plot. Que horrible stutter, "something" got broken since I last played the game in spring 2010.. Here's the setup: W7x64 + X-fi Not working solutions:Any of the Ini file tweaks Working solutions:Disable *PCM parts of AC3filter ANDDo the frauenhofer disable trick ANDinstall MADfilter Whole mp3 part is interesting since the radio actually uses WAV .. Never mind, now it works, I can run through the plot parts with my bad-arse companions on a fully updated FWE + WMK + MMM + EVE (0.96) + Fellout setup :-)
BenWah
On windows 7 64 bit I solved this withmadfilter installed and registered in syswow64 folder. Fraunhofer codec disabled via "installedcodec" tool I had two fraunhofer codec, I disabled them both but was not sure if I needed only one disabled? 1) Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec C:\Windows\SysWOW64\l3codeca.acm 2) Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (Professional) v3.3.2 C:\Windows\system32\mp3fhg.acm
Jazz162
Just so you know, this is still helping out in the year 2012 :). Using Windows 7 and the MADfilter fix worked perfectly :).
