MaanLook
Hello, Today i purchased all of the skyrim dlc's, And installed onto a clean installation of vanilla skyrim. After everything was set and ready i decided to do some .ini tweaking, which i've done before with no problems. The game ruins fine without my edited ini files, but with them seems to freeze on loading screen when starting a new game(havent tried loading a saved game, as i just started fresh and have none) I believe the problem lies with SkyrimPrefs.ini but i'm not entirely sure, Kindly look through it and let me know if you see anything.. That needs fixing :P Skyrim.ini [General]sLanguage=ENGLISHuGridsToLoad=11uExterior Cell Buffer=64 [Display]fShadowLODMaxStartFade=1000.0fSpecularLODMaxStartFade=2000.0fLightLODMaxStartFade=3500.0iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=2048bAllowScreenshot=1fDefaultWorldFOV=90fDefault1stPersonFOV=90 [Audio]fMusicDuckingSeconds=6.0fMusicUnDuckingSeconds=8.0fMenuModeFadeOutTime=3.0fMenuModeFadeInTime=1.0 [Grass]bAllowCreateGrass=1bAllowLoadGrass=0iMinGrassSize=75b30GrassVS=0bAllowCreateGrass=1 [GeneralWarnings]SGeneralMasterMismatchWarning=One or more plugins could not find the correct versions of the master files they depend on. Avaro
I'm going to go on a limb and say its the Ugrids try lowering it and see what happens.
Lanceor
I agree with Avaro. Raising uGridsToLoad will really mess up your game stability, may corrupt your savegames and it is very hard to revert to a lower setting. You might get away with it if you have no mods whatsoever, but Dawnguard and Dragonborn are what I would consider to be really big mods. I highly recommend leaving uGridsToLoad at 5. The square of uGridsToLoad is the number of cells your game loads. At uGridsToLoad=5, it's 25 cells. At uGridsToLoad=7, Skyrim will load 49 cells. At uGridsToLoad=11, your game will attempt to load 121 cells at once... and probably fail.
MaanLook
That seems to have been it, uExterior Cell Buffer is set to 64, should i lower that aswell for sake of stability?
Georgiegril
Even if your computer could handle 11 grids to load (and I don't know anyone's who can, I think that Geforce found the game engine couldn't handle more than 9, and recommends no more than 7)Your exterior cell buffer is not properly configured. To quote from the Geforce Guide:uExterior Cell Buffer=36 - This variable controls the number of world cells (controlled by the uGridsToLoad setting) that are buffered to RAM to provide smoother transitions and improve stability. The general rule for the optimal value to assign to this variable is to take your current uGridsToLoad value, add one to it, then multiply it by itself. For example, if you set a uGridsToLoad value of 7, change uExterior Cell Buffer to 64.
MaanLook
Ive made these changes; uGridsToLoad=5uExterior Cell Buffer=36 Thanks for all your help :)
blitzen
This problem keeps occurring. There is something about DB that causes a big fail with many people using ugrids greater than 5. I recall this exact same scenario occurring right after it was released. There's another new topic on here with the same problem, but he has ugrids at 7. He has ignored my advice so far. Let's see what happens.
Georgiegril
Well, I have been using ugrids at 7 for over a year now, very stable...(concessions in other areas made, of course) but I have yet to get DB.If I start crashing on DB when I get it, and reverting to the default ugrids stops it, then I would consider that pretty strong proof you are right! Now, if Steam would help out Science and just have a sale.... ;D
Lanceor
My opinion is that Dragonborn is just pure evil when it comes to game stability... I never had any problems until I got it. I would have uninstalled it long ago if it didn't have so much cool content.
prod80
[General]sLanguage=ENGLISHuGridsToLoad=11uExterior Cell Buffer=64 wooooooo there boy :D ...? :) set it to 5.. with uGridsToLoad at 11 you're expecting the engine to do 4x as much as what it is suppose to be stable with. The whole engine's capabilities are based around uGridsToLoad 5. If you want your game to look better, download some high quality LODs, better performance and looks better too. Enhanced Distant Terrain by SparrowPrince | http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/1598/High Quality LODs by Ethatron | http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4834/Distant Decal Fix by SparrowPrince | http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/31982/ You know, uGrids loads the complete cell... I doubt this stops at just textures/meshes but it's also includes each and every other thing in those cells which should maybe not even be possible to start loading at the same time or running at the same time. I would not even use 7 (tried it, not stable enough with lotta mods when keeping quality up).
