Vortex update doesn't honor my custom location

Hi gang,

Little annoyed right now.

I set up a custom installation and installed Vortex on drive D, I don't want stuff such as games and gaming software on my SSD (drive C). Today I started it and the client informed me of an upgrade, so I upgraded. I did notice a new icon my desktop but didn't pay it much attention and removed it.

Then when I tried to start Vortex from the start menu I was warned about a downgrade.

So as it turns out the alleged upgrade wasn't an upgrade at all, Vortex basically installed a new version in a default location (drive C) alongside the version I already had. As one can expect I wasn't very happy about this. To me an upgrade doesn't mean "lets install the latest version somewhere else" but "replace the currently installed version with the new one".

To make matters worse this new installation did overwrite the Windows package entry. In other words: the Vortex listing within the installed apps now pointed to the installation on drive C whereas the previous installation on D had been put in limbo. The only way to remove that is by manually deleting the files.

I expected something a little more elegant, at the very least an actual upgrade or a clear warning that this would be a new installation.

Alas... wanted to share. Now back to cleaning up this mess.

Vortex puts the new upgrade shortcut on the desktop.

It always has for me, then I pin it to my taskbar.

Did you let the Client do the upgrading, or did you shut it down and download Vortex from the site Manually and run it?

I've upgraded all the way from Alpha, and any upgrade is put where I installed Vortex.

I have it installed on my D:\ drive.

The upgrade from 0.16.5 to 0.17.3 worked, my Vortex.exe in my D:\Games|Vortex folder is 0.17.3

since a program with the name vortex is offered here skyrim and co. died for me. For a long time my favorite games are almost only playable in English or in German, but I have no desire to learn English at 67.

I'm not sure what your comment has to do wit this thread, but I think you want to continue to use NMM?

Download it from github, here

Thanks for your comment, appreciate it, and I think you're onto something there. To be honest I'm not 100% sure, but I just performed another upgrade from within the client (the green bar and I clicked "upgrade and restart" and things just worked as I intended and expected.

I'm afraid this was a classic example of PEBCAK on my end :nuke:

Thanks everyone, sorry for the false positive up there.
