The latest version of MWE is here. Don't worry about the development files. They're meant for creating new mods. The manual is here. It contains instructions on installation. Some players say that MWE isn't fully stable, so take this into account. There is also no development going on with MWE at this time. MWSE, the Morrowind Script Extender, is and has produced quite a few mods. You might want to consider checking it out.

Somewhere around the 3rd or 4th post it went into hibernation, but there have been some good mod suggestions, since. :)

Nice facial textures for females in Oblivion?
Balakirev replied to natehylton's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I suggest a facial textures mod, which increases resolution for the base textures without touching anything else. You can see a comparison of the best regarded ones, here. I use Maboroshi's Natural Faces, but the others are worth considering. You might also consider trying TNR All Races Revamped, which really redefines and individualizes each NPC in the game. (It works with facial texture mods.) Unfortunately, I can't find a download page for TNR that's active, but this is the mod Wiki page. Arthmoor, I think, was in charge of it for a while, and might have a lead. -
Consider this, instead.

That's very useful as a cure, but as preventative medicine, the mods are the way to go. Then you don't have to worry about being attacked by your companions, or having them attack one another. Things don't reach that point. One thing I haven't seen, other than the experimental Smarter Ally Combat Positioning, is a mod that keeps ranged and magic using companions from hitting you accidentally. It's great that nobody turns on their pals for that fireball which just charcoal broiled their butt, but it would be nicer still if there were a mod that kept the mage or bow user from hitting it, first.

When I went to work on Skin-toned Mannequins, I studied all the human-like female and male CM companions available, trying to find ones that looked like somebody whom you wouldn't run screaming from if they turned out to be your nextdoor neighbor. After that, it was a matter of isolating what I liked, mixing and matching, and changing things to make them mine. I think a few of both sexes turned out well. Check out the screens. You can always cut-and-paste the facial features of a mannequin using the editor, and put it on a companion, or on a character of your own.

Changing garment body types within HGEC
Balakirev replied to Balakirev's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Thanks--I was afraid of that, but hoping (for no good reason) it would be much simpler. Guess I'll just have to learn to live with the slim look. ;) -
Changing garment body types within HGEC
Balakirev replied to Balakirev's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Would that be under Items/Armor in the Object Window? Because if I look there at, say, a skirt in a mod that I want to change, there's no option to switch meshes from S to M. I see a world model for females, but its just a link to a mesh, rather than offering me one in a series of options to adjust that mesh to different sizes. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place? I've no problem with changing the original and all copies. It's an item I'd buy for my character or a companion, and no one else will be getting it. -
For example, let's say I have a purchased set of greaves that are HGEC, S lower. I want to turn it into M lower. Can I do this in the editor, and if so, how would I go about it? Would I need to change the original in the mod it came from? And if so, would it affect all copies, including the one I've already made? Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Are you running any mods? As you are running the expansions, do you have the latest patch for the last expansion? Did you buy the product?

OBLIVION GAME FREEZES AFTER 100+ HOURS
Balakirev replied to jwoltz's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
As mentioned above, Wrye Bash is a great tool that you might consider using. It has a bloat fix that can be applied to a saved game file; and best of all, it analyzes your saved game first for bloat, so you can tell whether you need the fix, or not. It's usually recommended not to fix bloat if the number is below 100. -
Consider companion mods: they advance with you, they'll fight for you, they carry stuff for you, and they (or at least, many of them) can't be killed, though that can be turned off, if you prefer. Some of them also provide a lot of character, and some quests. Take a look at Vilja, Viconia, and the more difficult to acquire Saphira. You might also want to consider a mod that ramps up the power and versatility of spells. I use a combination of Less Annoying Magic Experience, and Supreme Magicka. Both add spells, the former quite a lot, while the latter has a very configurable ini file that lets you tailor how a lot of stuff works--how powerful a given spell is, how many summons an enemy of yours can make, etc.

How long has this been going on? In other words, was the camera working fine up to a point, and then started acting in this fashion? Or did you install the game, and did this start right away?

CTD without any error messsage.
Balakirev replied to Wolfsmann's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
You might want to consider running BOSS. It sorts your mods properly, and notifies you of both outdated mods, and mods that are considered...problematic. As BOSS is being continually updated, it also stays pretty current. Bank of Cyrodil: I run this myself, and I know it doesn't require any masters. Should be okay. High Rez Skin Textures for HGEC: Again, I use this. Mind, any mod can have difficulties if it's installed incorrectly. There's no problem with adding mods after a game has started--just make sure you read up on the mods' requirements and known conflicts. You might also consider using Wrye Bash, which helps mods get along by reconciling some areas of difficulty. That's it's simplest function. It truly does a ton of things. -
So it's just your character, no others? What races have you tried? Also, which version of Roberts male body are you using? Finally, what version of the game are you running?

Oblivion crashes when loading exteriors
Balakirev replied to Priami's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
For what it's worth, the UOP.esp should load first of all your ESPs. Doubt that has anything to do with the problem, but still. -
Crashing everytime fast traveling in Chorrol
Balakirev replied to ian101's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I suspect this is a mod that was incorrectly installed. Please post your mods, in loading order. -
You know, since all your concerns are about the exact same thing--your load order, crashes, and putting it all through BOSS--you really should consolidate it into a single thread. I suggest this only to make it easier to respond to your concerns, as I've just responded in one only to find out you've posted later information in a second. And now, here's a third.

A couple of things strike me immediately. First, the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp should be the first ESP in your lineup. Also, if I recall correctly, UOP Vampire Aging & Face Fix.esp and Oblivion Citadel Door Fix.esp are now incorporated in the latest Wrye Bash, which you use. You should have the basic Better Cities.esp loading before all the other Better Cities ESP files. And all of them should load before your Bashed Patch. They can go right before the BP at the end of your loading order, but I would check to make sure there are no incompatibilities with each of the other mods you are running. BP does conflict with quite a few, as I recall. You've got 2 different versions of Modem's City Life running. As you've got Beautiful People, you probably want that version of MCL, but in that case, get rid of the other version, and load MCL *after* Beautiful People. As it is, you're loading it before. It's looking for a master, and not finding one. In fact, I'm surprised Wrye Bash didn't tell you you were loading parent ESPs *after* their children. Were any of your ESPs colored orange or red in Wrye Bash? Those are signs of problems. You've got 2 Vaults of Cyrodil ESPs: VaultsofCyrodiilBC, and VaultsofCyrodiil. I just downloaded the only Vaults one up on TES Nexus, and it included just VaultsofCyrodiil.esp. So I don't know where you got the other from, but it sounds like you've got another conflict, here. You've got the _Ren_BeautyPack_onlyhairs.esp and Ren_BeautyPack_full.esp running. The former is included in the latter, so there's a conflict. My best advice to you would be to read the documentation for each mod, and follow the instructions explicitly. Not because I suggest it, but because it will get your game running. ;) My second piece of advice would be to use BOSS. It will not only rearrange your files, it will tell you that you've got a bunch of out of dates ones, and some that you shouldn't be running at all. As a rule, it's recommendations are pretty good. Best of luck. :)

Yes, over here, on Bethsoft's boards. It's regularly updated.

Why do many Oblivion fans tend not to like Dragon Age?
Balakirev replied to SpellAndShield's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I don't hate it, or like it. DA is the epitome of the KotoR style RPG, linear and beautiful, with little in the way of anything to do save hear scripted dialogs, or fight. Again, there's nothing wrong with that, if you enjoy it. I tried it, found it very repetitive, and put it away. The best part of it, in my opinion, was the camp, with its many opportunities for character revelations from party members. That gives you a sense of my priorities, I expect. ;) On the other hand, I really enjoyed BG2, and better still, Planescape: Torment. But there was more freedom in both those games, and a greater sense of a world. Something about DA feels very much like a movie with a fairly light script. And no, I didn't find any moral decisions to make that really affected matters down the road. -
At the risk of stating what you may have heard before, you should consider buying SI. It improves several features, and adds a lot of interesting terrain/quests to the game. More importantly, it will allow you a much larger pool of mods to select from. Just a thought.
-
Get rid of the awful, phony dialog between random NPCs. Go back to a reasonable physics engine, instead of the gee-whiiz-bodies-bouncing-on-walls Oblivion one. Provide a larger pool of voices for each race. Offer the player more gameplay options: difficulty sliders for life, magicka, defenses. General hostility level to player. Get rid of most creature leveling, or at least, offer this as a user option.

POLL: Should Oblivion be updated "one last time"?
Balakirev replied to ziitch's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
I'd rather not see another update. I'm running 250+ mods, and I'd not update until I knew the lot were compatible with it. -
Noted.
