If I understand you correctly, those are already in the game. The Alteration school has Fire, Shock, and Frost Shields, as well as Resist Magic. Mysticism has Reflect Magic, and Absorb Magic. Those last three are very powerful, which is probably why they're not topped out in strength, and costly to cast. If you mean a physical wall or barrier, I've seen nothing like that in LAME. Supreme Magicka, however, has a series of Destruction spells that create elemental-based circle barriers. You can pass 'em, but you take damage: Ice Belt, Flame Circle, Sphere of Shock, etc. Hope that helps. :)

I noticed that the leader this month in the FotM category had 170 votes. Yet the mod itself only has 50 endorsements. If 50 people felt strongly enough inclined over the lifetime of the mod to endorse it, where did the other 120 come from? As any member can vote for FotM, presumably friends can be asked to join the site, and vote for somebody's mod. This certainly isn't an attack on the mod in question, which looks very good. The numbers just seem oddly skewed. And perhaps that points back to a problem in the methodology involved in selecting the FotM. (If this post is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it to where it should be, provided that isn't an Oblivion respawning container.)

TES Nexus and PES have the most complete list of Oblivion mods available--so if armor's not here, chances are your best bet will be scrounging for independent modders on their individual sites. And even so, you'll find a lot who post their mods here under other names.

Per LHammond's link on the first page, did you turn off anti-aliasing before attempting to take screens?

Etiquette regading updating an abandoned mod
Balakirev replied to chaospearl's topic in Oblivion's Discussion
Exactly my opinion. I repeatedly tried to contact Reznod while doing my own spinoff of his Mannequin mod, Skin-toned Mannequins, and never got a response in over two weeks. Others as well told me he'd left the modding community, and couldn't be contacted. So I made sure to credit Reznod, and to thank him for all the great work he's done. I hope he would understand, but really...my mod adds something his didn't provide. And what you're describing? It's bugfixing. I would think any reasonable modder would be delighted for someone to pick up the gauntlet and repair their own work. Good on you, in my opinion. -
Love 'em all, but for me, a really developed, excellent quest beats the lot. And I say that as somebody who has plenty of enhanced and new shops, companions, and ease-of-use mods (such as Kyoma's Journal) in my modlist.

CTD upon Entering THIS cell.
Balakirev replied to Hazencruz's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
There were some issues with Deadly Reflex causing CTDs. You might check to make sure you have the latest version. Also, it no longer goes after your Bashed Patch. Run BOSS to find a reasonably good suggestion for optimal loading location. -
Mod Cleaning tool for TESIV?
Balakirev replied to freewaydog's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
This is a mod cleaning tutorial for TES4Edit. It's very good, and clear. One thing to note, though, is that you shouldn't clean animation/pose mods with it. As for Wrye Bash, you really should learn to use it: no pain, no gain. The basic features aren't difficult to figure out, and it does help clean and arrange mods. Effort is rewarded, in its case. -
What I personally need: A good sized area with plenty of beds, respawning food and drink for companions. An alchemy area, with sorters for ingredients, potions, and scrolls. Enchantment and spell creation. Plenty of labeled containers for different kinds of potions, soul gems, enchantables, etc. A fairly large area for mannequins. A fairly large area for armor and weapon display. Preferably with wall-mount displays, as in The Rift mod. A good-sized library area. It doesn't necessarily need books, but it should be able to accommodate quite a few, plus, it should have some of the false front bookcases as well, that can hold all the books you want. If it can sort books, all the better, but I haven't seen a faultless implementation of this in Oblivion. (Morrowind has it, in a few mods.) What I always look for: Good decoration. Attractive combinations of textures and colors. Plenty of attention to detail. The odd book left out, a wine bottle and a glass, a series of ceramic containers that I've not seen before, etc. Easy pathing. If I move quickly, I don't like being caught on an edge of something that should give but doesn't, or pull along a bunch of items onto the floor in my wake. A layout that gets me where I want to go, quickly. I hate endless corridors. No giveaways. True, I can always open the CS or disable in the game that Heavy Armor of Infinite Endurance, but I almost certainly won't load up the mod that has it to begin with. Same thing goes with merchants, etc. There are cities. That's what they're for. No throne rooms, planning rooms, etc. I'm not a ruler, I'm a private citizen in the game. If I want to be a ruler, I'll play Civ IV. And I prefer my rooms to have a function I can take advantage of. Imagination. Simply re-using the basic house found in a given city makes me wonder why I shouldn't buy the basic house found in that city, instead. Currently, I'm using Tchos Alchemy Tower, with two dimensional "zones," since Tchos didn't allow for displays or mannequins in his otherwise great tower. I'm always amenable to looking at new houses that appear to suit all my needs.

If you mean that you have problems installing many mods that come with new textures and meshes, just grab the mod folders marked textures and meshes, and drag them onto your Oblivion/data folder. They'll copy over. You'll be asked if you want to overwrite; click yes. That's it.

Having problems with custom races!
Balakirev replied to XcoqpouleX's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Quoting from the mod, "Moonshadow Elves mod requires Custom Race Fix and Robert Male Body V5 / Hgec Body Ver 1.21 mods for its proper operation." Do you have those installed? They are not part of the mod. Moonshadow Elves won't run properly without them. -
how do i use tes4edit to release my mod?
Balakirev replied to theuseless's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
As I recall, conflicts should be in red, not yellow. There's a good manual that comes with the utility. I strongly recommend reading it through for the kind of thing you want to do. This is an excellent TES4Edit mod cleaning tutorial. -
Yes I did checkmarked Beautiful People. Try ESMIfying Beautiful People, then. The easy way to do this is to open up Wrye Bash, right-click on the Beautiful People ESP, and choose the ESMify option. Then close it, open the CS, make your mod the active plugin, and load in Beautiful People. See if that works. This will turn Beautiful People into a master for your companion. Remember to reopen Wrye later and ESPify Beautiful People. (Same procedure as before.) You only need to have Beautiful People as an ESM during the process of establishing that dependency.

Do you mean Redemized? Because if not, consider this, or this. I'm not familiar with this. What is it supposed to do? None of the ones you mention should affect your FPS. I can't speak to the "etc, etc" part, of course. Check out the Oblivion Stutter Remover. Looks complex, I know, but if you read through what you can do and stick with the basic recommendations, I think you'll be surprised how much faster things are. Also consider a mod that purges cell buffers. Right now, I'm using LazyPCB, because it waits a user-defined period of time before purging those buffers. You're not by any chance running a LOD viewer, are you? Those can dramatically slow things down. I personally use Really AEVWD, which sacrifices a bit of high end viewing for significant gains in performance. I don't recommend using it at all if you aren't using a LOD viewer, but if you already use a different one, give it some consideration. Perhaps put up your entire mod list, in order of loading?

What version of Wrye Bash are you using? It should state at the top. As Jenrai notes, there's no reason for a Bashed Patch, 0.espf to exist.

...And now I cannot run mods
Balakirev replied to Fallen Crusader's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
I don't think uninstalling the mods is a necessary step, at this point. I would definitely agree on the tools, especially Wrye Bash. And I would download and run BOSS before anything else. BOSS will probably find that you're running some mod without its master (that is, without another active that it depends upon), and tell you which ones they are. It's extremely useful, that way. -
[quote name='Balakirev' date='12 April 2010 - 12:10 AM' timestamp='1271045414' In that case, though, shouldn't I be able to replace the foot texture through any body replacer that includes Khajits, and so get a full Khajit-textured body, back? Because I tried this using BluesNewMaleBody, and still have the light purple torso, hand, and tail regions. I'm not willing to lose all my textures to all races, so any other solution is fine with me. I think I've got it solved. BluesNewMaleBody put its textures in two subdirectories, Textures, and Textures without Tattoos. The textures version for the Khajits didn't work, so I copied over Textures without Tattoos into the appropriate Textures subfolder. That worked.

I thought textures were race-specific? I've also just tried applying BluesNewMaleBody, meshes and textures. Khajits are still messed up, though not any other race. Which seems to mean something else is getting in the way.
-
Simply put, I've found that all the Khajits in my game now have light purple hands, upper torsos, and tails, so the basic textures are clearly messed up. Rather than figure out where the problem occurred, can anyone suggest how I might replace or refresh those textures with the originals? Removing the Khajit/male subdirectory for textures doesn't work. Over to you.

RAR is used quite a lot, these days. I strongly recommend WinRAR, because it not only opens RAR files, but a ton of other archives, including ZIP.

Problem with token/invisible armor and clothing
Balakirev replied to Balakirev's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Yeah--it turned out that it was simply poorly flagged as female-only. There's some armor in the store either males or females can wear, and others that certainly should be unisex (the bulky Dragon Cuirass comes to mind), but aren't. Thanks.
