One of the terms in the contract players enter into when they choose to mod their game is the acknowledgement that future games updates can break their game/mods. You even get a reminder that you "use mods at your own risk" when you launch the game. But players go ahead anyway and add mods to their game, in spite of their knowledge that they will probably wind up on the dirty end of the stick. So, maybe one of the folks who blame Bethesda can explain to the rest of us why accepting the responsibility for ones own decisions is so hard? You knew/know the risk, you gambled that it wouldn't happen to you, and you lost. How is that anybodies fault but your own?

Sounds like you need to be taking this to Bethesda, where there is a chance this might get fixed. Ain't nuttin folks here can do bout dis.

AI Voice mods are unethical and Nexus should either ban or limit them
ScytheBearer replied to LadyFrey's topic in Debates
Such suits name everyone associated with such usages, from mod maker to hosting sites as part and parcel of the illegal usage. The objective is to go after the deepest pockets, and in this case, that would be Robin Scott, Nexus Mods and BlackTree Gaming. -
Part of the contract that players enter into when they download and install mods includes an understanding that later updates to the game can and do break those mods. The issue is not that "Bethesda are not good at listening to their community with empathy or understanding". Reality is that mod users are simply unwilling to take responsibility for their choices and seek to blame someone other than themselves for the consequences of those choices; Bethesda is just the convenient target. As a consequence, irresponsible users break out their favored tirades, sharpen their forks, oil their torches and march their mob on Bethesda. These mod users have been described as "entitled" and "spoiled" and there is some validity in those appellations. Their response to broken mods have been likened to a "toddler throwing a tantrum", which also seems fitting. As a mod maker, I think it is about < obscenity redacted > time mod users took a different approach and looked in the mirror to see where the true issue lies.

In Skyrim, is the Last Dragonborn actually a villain?
ScytheBearer replied to InDarkestNight's topic in Debates
"There is no evil in the world, evil exists only in the hearts of men." - Ancient Chinese Philosophy "The evil in every situation arrives in the soul of men". - Translated from Ancient Sanskrit The natural world is innocent, free of evil and guile. Evil and guile are the product of humanities attempts to rationalize and justify their behavior when such behavior is contrary to nature's innocence. "Human beings are not rational animals. Human beings are rationalizing animals." - Robert A. Heinlein Humanities greatest gift is it's intellect, which allows human beings to make the best choice in any situation. Humanities greatest curse is it's intellect, which forces human beings to understand that every choice has the potential to be the wrong choice. "There are no good choices. There are no bad choices. Only choices." - Tibetan Philosophy Are your characters evil acts by design and intent, or is your character forced into evil action by circumstance. You get to rationalize the choices. -
Material Swaps Broken After Update
ScytheBearer replied to schuckster's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
"Know bug". Bethesda is working on it. -
For those who have installed the NextGen Update and have mods which "rename" power armor, there is a potential conflict. To quote Douglas Adams "Don't Panic". This is NOT a catastrophic collapse nor the end of the world. The CC content which adds the Hellfire Armor updated the instance naming rule dn_PowerArmor. Any mods which update or change this INMR record will quite probably need an update. Also, any compatibility patches which reconcile mods with each other may also need to be updated. The symptoms of this condition are that the various pieces of Hellfire Armor are named Head, Left Arm, Left Leg, Right Arm, Right Leg and Torso, as appropriate. They should be named Hellfire MKx with the part suffix. IE, Hellfire MK VI Torso, etc.

In the Elder Scrolls, is it 'unethical' to trap souls?
ScytheBearer replied to InDarkestNight's topic in Debates
Nope. The phrase is "Attack me and give your soul to God, because your ass is mine". But in Tamriel; magical ability allows one to trap the attackers soul on it's way to God and cheat the attacker out of any reward they may be expecting in Sovengard. So, in Tamriel, the phrase is "Attack me and I'm taking your life and your soul" followed by gleeful and evil sounding laughter and maybe even a bit of hand wringing in anticipation of the things one can do with Black Souls. mwahahaha -
They violated "double secret probation".

What I find entertaining are some of the "restrictions" doled out with some of the warnings. Some are so meaningless as to be laughable. By way of example (and example only), some one who has "repeat violations of image share" rules is restricted from uploading an image for 14 days. I'll bet their wrist really hurts after such severe punishment.

AI Voice mods are unethical and Nexus should either ban or limit them
ScytheBearer replied to LadyFrey's topic in Debates
I'm pretty sure prosecutors who are using the laws against identify theft against those who use someone's "image and likeness, voice and sound" without their permission already consider any such usage illegal. And they are looking to be successful in their prosecutions. A persons "image and likeness, voice and sound" are part and parcel of a person's identity. This principle has already been legally established and affirmed by the courts in Matt Furrie vs Frito Lay. Furthermore, twisting copyright and claiming that the use of someone's "image and likeness, voice and sound" without their permission is a derivative work has no basic in law. Such thinking is little more that a flight of fancy. Using such a whimsical ideology to excuse, justify or embrace identify theft says something unpleasant about a persons moral fiber. I'll leave this there. -
AI Voice mods are unethical and Nexus should either ban or limit them
ScytheBearer replied to LadyFrey's topic in Debates
You may want to rethink your position. Up until recently, all of the efforts against AI generated "voice and sound, image and likeness" have been civil proceedings. However, a couple states are now using the laws against identify theft in their attempts to prosecute folks for "AI" generated fakes which replicate "voice and sound, image and likeness". Right now, the focus is on "deep fakes" published in social media, political ads, etc. But if they are successful in their prosecutions, the use of a person's AI duplicated voice may be considered identify theft, and subject to criminal prosecution. -
There is a site feedback forum (https://feedback.nexusmods.com/) where these types of suggestions can be made, tracked, judged, critiqued, ridiculed, and eventually acted upon, or not.

AI Voice mods are unethical and Nexus should either ban or limit them
ScytheBearer replied to LadyFrey's topic in Debates
In California, the unauthorized use of someone's image and likeness, voice and sound ARE illegal. See California Civil Code section 3344. See Tom Waits vs Frito Lay. All MS Tyler need do is have her attorney go to the California Superior Courthouse in San Fransisco and file a civil lawsuit against the maker of the mod and Nexus Mods and Robin Scott (for hosting the mod) for violating California Civil Code section 3344. And before anyone starts screaming that California law has no meaning to a British Company, think again. I am sitting in CA and can access the content. NexusMods Profits from having this content on their site and available in CA. -
Should mod authors have the option to make mods for money?
ScytheBearer replied to InDarkestNight's topic in Debates
I would like to provide a different perspective to this paragraph. "Because most people don't realise how much the larger modding community relies on the free exchange of ideas and materials. And that free exchange is only made possible by the fact that mods are free, so it's not an economic disadvantage for a modder to allow other modders to use, in part or in full, stuff they made for their own mod." The truth can be somewhat different. What the "community" relies on is that mods and the content in them are freely shared with players. The content is NOT shared with other mod makers. However, unscrupulous mod makers have no qualms about taking advantage of the free content shared with players and stealing that content from their betters. The great claim by these thieves is that "there is no theft, because there is no monetary harm". With the advent of paid mods, the monetary harm can be demonstrated, and that really pisses off the thieves. They are loosing one of their justifications to steal content. So, what one can append onto all of the "paying mod makers is bad" rhetoric is "paying mod makers is bad because it makes it easier to prove damages for stolen mod content". -
Well, considering that the majority of Bethesda's players are on "consoles", coupled with the reality that Bethesda has only released two of its vast stable on consoles to be played with mods, this is one of those meaningless statistics, like "the vast majority of automobiles run on petrochemicals".

Which way to go first. Do we care because we believe that fame (or notoriety) grants to the rich and famous an air of infallibility, giving their voice weight and meaning? Do we care because it gives us a chance to hunt for the hypocrisy which may exist and thus allow us an oppurtunity to expose the speakers "feet of clay"? Do we care because squeaky wheels get greased and sometimes that grease is a negative consequence; and we all enjoy seeing high profile ne'er-do-wells getting their just rewards? Do we care because when someone with an elevated social standing expresses an opinion with which we agree, we foolishly believe our social standing is also elevated? Do we care because we are too lazy or too stupid to think for ourselves and need someone else to do our thinking for us, and some famous loudmouth we like adequately fills the niche? Do we care because we believe the voices of our "leaders" absolve us of any responsibility for the direction our lives, our community, our nation or our world may journey? Or, do we care because we don't really "care", and joining the flock is just the easy thing to do?

If you played Colossal Cave Adventure before 1980, then you can talk about a "lifetime of gaming".

As the creator of the Mod in question (https://creations.bethesda.net/en/skyrim/details/41423/_WIP__Shaildor_s_Maze and https://www.afkmods.com/index.php?/files/file/2553-wip-shalidors-maze/&tab=comments#comment-2375), I submit that the problem is indeed in Vortex. Please fix Vortex so that it is tolerant of file names which are within the criteria of normal file naming standards. Furthermore, I request that the attachment be removed from the Posting by @cmd673 (https://forums.nexusmods.com/topic/13474412-mod-changed-on-disk-with-restart-of-vortex/), as the mod has been uploaded to NexusMods in violation of the terms of service for the mods.

Not necessarily. Bethesda has thus far been fairly reactive when it comes to fixing bugs. I have previously reported three bugs to Bethesda and two have been fixed. I have reported both my new bugs to Bethesda, and fully expect they will be fixed, too. Edit ... One of the new bugs has been fixed.

Hey, I was drafted in 1969, so you'll get no grief from me. But; not to put too fine a point on it, Marines are supposedly ready to fight at a moments notice and you seem to still have the instinct. Semper Fi.
-
"former Marine"? No such thing. To answer the OPs question, Marines get attached to a great number and variety of "other units" as force multipliers. To ensure that Marines are capable of fighting along side other branches and our allies, certain Marine Corps units get training which might seen "antithetical" to an outside observer. Suffice it to say that Marines get more training than simply riding a SSC onto a fortified beach or charging up some nameless hill under hostile fire. Furthermore, Marines are computer programmers, accountants, office managers, supply chain managers, and so much more. Pretty much every Marine has some form of specialized training. It is just the jumpers and divers which get special devices (badges) for their uniform.

After two different game breaking bugs that stopped progress in the MQ, I have given up for a while. Fallout 4 anyone?
