    You were totally correct on Wrye loading OBSE on launch. I just couldn't understand why it wasn't working again.

  2. Hello, and thank you good people for your help. It's comforting to know that that no "stumped" question is treated as a "stooopid" question here. After reading your thoughts and examining my set up I realized I did a TOTAL numb nuts thing: put OBSE in data files, not directory. No wonder Wrye was acting like a brat. My bad. But I wouldn't have realized that without re-examining your trouble-shooting suggestions. Thank you all. And for all others who have installed properly but still get stymied, because they don't realized the difference between the disc versus Steam versions, I think you have given people searching this issue the full monty (as it were). As one who tries to search before posting, this may come in very handy for others. Gotta love that. Best game to all, Lummina

Hello- and a hearty howdy to all who have helped me me in the past, I need a simple and tidy instruction method to change my Oblivion launcher from the standard launch to one that points to starting the game via the current OBSE version. I have Wrye installed (seems happy), and OMOD (ditto on joy factor). II am running Win 7. A while back my dear "mental mentor" , Hey You, told me via email how this is easily done but I've managed to misplace the instructions and he is not available to me at this time, I have such limited and spotty times to tinker and play that I am hoping someone is on board with a recap that could help this evening. I can not simply right click/drag the OBSE launcher to the task bar. That doesn't seem to jive with Wrye/7/ and company. I know this is a simple and numb nuts fix....but if the name fits I guess I have to wear it for the evening, Thank you for reading and hopefully (and gently) assisting. Lummina And I should have mentioned that I always launch via Wrye Bash. So that probably means something too..
  4. Hi all, Last night, last thing, I ran a defrag and set it to shut the system down when done. I went to bed. Today, just now, I went and fired up the game to double check on the question from Hey You. And guess what? Everything is in place and where it should be. But it's a witch to find! Changed the SM ini file and it seemed to work. Both weak fire/healing spells show up under the general magic tab but only fire ball appears under the spells you can cast tab. Healing isn't there. The Fix Double Face Bug patch shows up under lesser powers. Greater Power of the Ancestral Guardian is fine. And tonight's real update: I've systematically deactivated all mods that I think could have magic conflicts or over-rides. Each time I removed a mod I reran BOSS, re-patched Wrye, and started a new test character. *Shrug* Still isn't correct. Anyone?

  7. I don't recall it doing that the last time I played with this mod installed.. An update I wasn't aware of perhaps..<div><div><br></div><div>Evenstargw, thank you for the giving me amazing specifics on this. The crew above was (as always, I've noticed lately) very helpful as were you.</div><div><br></div><div>I do have a question: When you say; "...but as it states, once they have been removed, you don't get them back." you mean the scrolls, correct? And the console command would put the scrolls back in one's possession (I don't want them but was curious)<br><br>Later that evening...I changed the file per above. </div><div><br></div><div>Started a new tester character. I do have the starting spells back. In some places. The minor fire/healing spells both show up under the general magic tab but under spells you can cast only the weak fire ball is listed. (Ancestral Guardian is fine) And other things are odd--like "fix double face bug" (or whatever) is now a minor power.<br>I'm going to have to believe I must also have a magic mod conflict. Striker threw a dart at it... (I know the feeling!)<br>If anyone has additional thoughts please toss 'em on the heap.   9. Hello, It's been quite awhile since I have played through Oblivion. The past month or so I've been putting the game back together, re-learning Wrye, OBMM, installing mods, the whole cheese. I also have a new computer with a new OS (WIN 7) that has made things even more interesting. But with help it's been falling into place nicely. Or so I thought until I fired up my first "real" character (not a mod tester). And I seem to be missing something. My female Dark Elf doesn't have any spell abilities at the get-go. I thought my last DE had 2 very weak starting spells--fire ball and minor healing. Mine has 5 scrolls each of minor fire/heal. This can't be right. And the thing that is really confusing is the mods I've installed are for all intent and purposes the same mods I ran the last time I played. Nothing funky, all mods are tried, tested, seem stable. No major overhauls like FCOM. Boss sees no conflicts. Wrye is green boxes and seems to be bashed without incident. OBMM is blue straight through. I'd attach my mod list but I can't remember how to make that happen. As I say, it's been a while. (If you need it tell me how and I'll get back with it) So has anyone else heard of this sort of thing happening? Thanks for your help.   10. Appears not. Though I have seen free XBOX versions floating around. Thank you all for your suggestions and advice. Appreciate them all very much. And as Hey You would probably agree, it's not so much the cost of buying the downloads again (they were inexpensive) but the carelessness of Beth that rankles me. And I don't mean careless in the sense of not paying attention, but of caring less for the people who have supported their efforts and bought their products in the first place. It just bugs me. (A little story) I was telling this tale of woe to a friend of mine who has played Oblivion in the past--just ragging on it. Her 7 year old daughter asked why it bothered me and I explained it like this: Let's say I buy a tee shirt from LL Bean, wear it a couple of times and then stow it in my dresser drawer. A year later I decide I want to wear it. Should I have to pay LL again before I can put it on simply because I haven't used it lately? She thought that was a very silly idea. And I do too.
  11. Hi all, Hey, it's not good to go. Saving Beth DLC into disc does not work down the road. After trying the UE (and thought it was gonna work) it did not. So I brought the disk to a friend who can do legacy reads...no joy there either. Other efforts to extract/use the data are null. Only a few of the "bits" will extract at all, some not at all, and none work. They show up in OBMM and in Wrye as patches. I see missing main files and then some. Jerk me around, I can take it, but remember, I've already purchased the darn things outright and I have the keys to prove it. I can't find a way to re-download the content on the Beth site --which would solve the issue for me--but all I find is XBOX files...what about others? Am I the only living dark elf in the world with this issue? Thanks as always for your thoughts and guidance. Peace. L

Hi guys, So this is what I did: Since running off the actual disc or a copy from the desktop isn't viable (because of the string/Win64 errors--whatever they are *shrug*--) I went the Universal Extractor route choosing the isxunpack extraction option. Beth "says" they are an InstallShield extraction but the InstallShiel/b option of UE doesn't work with it.) I extracted everything I wanted in the O Data folder and they do show up in the folder and in OBMM---but they are labeled "patches". Does that make sense to you? The file size of say, Spell Tomes is 389kb which I think would be an acceptable size... So I guess what I'm asking is, do you think the patches are the actual program? And yes, I could go off and play to find out but I haven't even really created a character yet--still getting mods in place and only running short term test dummies. http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/biggrin.gif Thanks.

Striker, since I installed my game in its own C:\Games folder I do not have admin issues but for those who don't know, this will be very helpful. Nimboss, I didn't realize that CD's could degrade so quickly. Huh. Using the older computer that I used to burn the disc is not an option.   15. Hello, and thank you for reading this post and hopefully helping. I am re-installing Oblivion on a new computer. Haven't played for a while but am getting up to speed (abet slowly) with installing mods, tweaks, and such. I purchased the DLC package 3 or 4 years ago, put them on disc with keys. Decided I wanted to include "Spell Tomes" in the mix but I get a string error on install. Is there a way to work around this? Thank you.
  16. Hi, I am building my game using Wrye. I have downloaded OBSE. I read that it needs a "point to" to work correctly if launching off a desktop shortcut. Is launching via Wrye considered a shortcut? I wouldn't think...but not thinking has caused me problems before so... Thanks for your help. And now I am confused because BOSS says OBSE is not necessary (I know it once was) and can interfere with some of SI. But some mods I have been looking at say that OBSE needs to be installed to work correctly. What am I missing here?

  18. Hi and thanks for the help. My bashed patch is tweaked to show rings and amulets but they still don't show up--even if I'm wearing them naked! I really don't know why. Also, I play a mage character so she doesn't wear armor so that can't be it... And thanks too, for the gardening mod help. I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to get the ingredient into the bag but I'll work on it.
  19. Hi all, Have a couple of mod questions: I'm having a difficult time understanding how the Gloves of Gardening mod works. I've gone through the read me but I still don't get it. I cast the spell (Mage mode), the bag is created and I "pour energy" into the bag...then what?!? I have 2 samples of the plant in my inventory--in this case, fennel, and they are the only 2 ingredients I have on me--the bag is created, time ticks away...the bag crumbles to the ground, and nothing. I'm sure I'm doing something awesomely stooopid but for the life of me I can't figure out what. Blood vials. I have 8 in stock but every time I slay, say a troll, when I try to collect the blood I'm told I don't have a vial on me so it's lost. Why's that? And this is just a little oddity I guess I'll ask: Why don't my amulets and rings show on my character? I'm using HG Eyecandy, female dark elf, normal sized build. I know the jewelry is working correctly by checking stats but they just don't show in vanity mode. Any idea's? I'm not using OOO, FCOM, or any of the big overhauls. I do run Wrye Bash (thank you Wrye!), OBSE, and OMM. Thanks so much for the help! Lummina
