Okay, the link is working now. So everyone has discovered something new about me: I'm an impatient little fairy... :whistling:

Thank you both for the input. And I believe you're right about some younger guys being sensitive to a fault, judging from what I've seen here on the forums at times. Often a simple comment or suggestion can offend to the point that a "flamewar" will ensue. But we girls are just the same at times, and I was probably in just one of those moods when I originally saw that picture.

Perhaps then you should start by making a list of your family's hopes and fears, as the assignment requires.

When's it due? Of course it's against my scruples to write it for you, but I will try to give you my best advice. Don't start out with the goal of trying to impress everyone; that's just putting unnecessary pressure on yourself. To begin with, just sit down and write whatever comes to your mind and heart. Afterward you can go back and make changes and polish it. You'll most likely go through a few rough drafts. You have to start with a chunk of coal in order to get a diamond.

Once again you've captured my attention and held it hostage. I'll be anxiously watching for more.

Those Grammar Nazis obviously don't know anything about creative writing as it relates to narratives or about how to create a believable fictional character. Perhaps the solution to this debate would be for all schools to practice what some already do (colleges, for example): the study of Literature is kept in its own course while grammar and other writing skills are taught in a separate course. There, problem solved. What's the next debate?

Dezdimona, you never cease to impress me.

(I originally posted this quickie in another thread, WWMD?, that didn't get as many visitors as I'd hoped, but it amuses me so I'm copying it here as well. I know I said no limericks, but I made that designation mainly to defend the thread against anything tasteless. Besides, I don't want people to think I have a perpetual dark storm cloud over my head, so I hope you get a laugh or chuckle from it.) There once was a Khajiit named M'aiq Who loved to lie and to sneak. He'd run 'round all day With quaint things to say, Then he'd be gone for a week.

I've steered clear of this thread since it seemed to be mostly about firearms, but now I'm seeing mention of things like love and death so I have to stick my nose in. However, I think the original point of the thread was regarding melee combat, so I'm reluctantly steering it back in that direction. I think a person's intellect is the great equalizer in combat. If a little guy can out-think a big guy he can still win. It's as simple as that. And I still maintain my earlier opinion that it is also the better man who can walk away from a conflict without bloodshed.

(Apparently Uncle Roe has revised his opinion of me to "illegally cute" so I'm not sulking now.) In the first half of this poem I thought your words firmly grasped the anxiety of the soldier, making the reader feel it too, but the end of the poem sounded more like satire and I thought it detracted from the mood of the piece. But I'm no professor and we all have our own writing styles, so I give it a "thumbs-up".

I've been rummaging through some notebooks I've saved from high school and may come up with something to post in the near future. But, as I'm sure you already know, narrative writing requires a bit more TLC (i.e. TIME) than pouring out an emotive poem, so I don't know how soon I might post anything. And I have to consider the fact that my internet connection is not reliable (which is why I'm kind of "now-you-see-me-now-you-don't" around here) and I'd hate to be just finishing typing 8 paragraphs in this little black square when my wi-fi suddenly disappears. But if I do post a narrative I promise to PM my friends list and/or put a link to it in my sig (which I've finally figured out how to manipulate). Thanks for showing such interest!

Thanks to all of you for your help and support. I'm still intimidated by scripting, but at least I know where to find help if I get lost. :thanks:
