  1. Umm, I think underwear is a very recent invention though ... 1700s or some such.
  2. There are 290Xs with 8GB from AMD due in November, but they won't beat a Titan Z (they'll be cheaper though). From all my browsing over the past month of GPU news, it looks like 3 to 9 months for something new replacing the Nvidia 980s (there was a very recent rumour of an 8GB 980, but that got denied by Nvidia). Other than that, it's also 3 to 9 months for the next generation of GPU based on smaller dies ... they're expected to give a very good performance increase over current cards, anyone who can wait for them probably should (personally, I'm in two minds, but fortunately (?) can't afford a new card atm anyway). Whether anything will replace the Titan Z I've no idea, I suspect the next gen cards with the smaller dies will probably make it obsolete for gaming.
  3. Hi all, I'm wondering about zooming the camera in, for screenshots like I've seen in places. All I've found googling is how to zoom out. Is it a console command? Am I missing something basic?
  4. My love for modded Skyrim is such that I won't even play it now until I have a new GPU :p
  5. I often had the same problem, had to manually turn the PC off at times, using win 8.
  6. Nice system, I'm hoping to work toward something comparable once the next gen GPUs come out anyway. You might want to look at your ini settings ... you'll need to find the guide, I don't have a link sorry, but there's one that allows your system memory to be used as well as that on your GPU. When I adjusted mine to use the system memory the game got smoother (I still had stuttering problems & fps of just over 30 though, so decided to stop playing until I get a gpu better than my R9 290).
  7. I think Guard Dialogue Overhaul does something locally for that.
  8. Likewise, I got around it by telling the follower to shoot with arrows from distance, allowing me to close. I used AFT.
  9. I'd also drop an SSD in there.
  10. As an aside to this, 2 x GTX 970s in sli or a single GTX 980? I've heard SLI doesn't always work for Skyrim? As an aside, http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/09/19/nvidia-geforce-gtx-980-review/9 (980 matching or exceeding 780TI in Skyrim)
  11. Also, did you disable AA on your graphics card & put in place & edit the necessary ini files?
  12. Nvidia 980s & 970s GPUs are out tomorrow/later today, & look promising. It "seems" they're as good as a 780ti on general benchmarks, but they do have 4gb of memory, so hopefully the 980 will better again for Skyirm. I built my PC about 2 months ago, used a R9 290 ... expect I'm going to upgrade very shortly indeed. I'd get a Titan, but they're too expensive. From what I've been reading, SLI can be troublesome with Skyrim.
  13. Hi, You already have a follower - what caused me a little confusion with this, was having to dismiss the follower first, then hire her as the steward. I don't know if you have to be stood outside the owned player house, suppose it makes sense - so try that there. Ian.
  14. Thanks for the reply & the list, I'm using an R9 290 GPU with 4GB of VRAM. Installing mods, I use NMM mostly (well, apart from those few that demand manual install, like UNP), then use Loot to order them, TesEdit to clean them, & Wyrebash to create/update the bashed patch after each new addition. Forgot to mention, I also use Realvision ENB ... do you manage to run your game with those mods & an ENB. & avoid ctds entirely?
  15. Hi all, I'm thinking of uninstalling my current (more or less) stable game & reinstalling with Sky redone. I remember from installing my current mods a few of them had options for if Skyre was installed, so as I'm also planning on toning down some graphics for a smoother/more stable game I think just uninstalling Skyrim then downloading it from steam & starting over would be best. I've done that twice before due to a couple of disasters - the best of which was installing 100 mods from a list of top 100 mods via steam then trying to start a game, no testing involved - it's a wonder I even got that game to load I think :) Anyway, first question ... installing mods, how frequently should I test the game works by loading a save with new mods on, running about in Skryim for 5 mins, checking the mod works? When I installed my current working game, I did it after every 3 or so. This time round, it'll be pretty much the same mods I've used before. Do you think I could get away with installing more at once without testing? Second question, some mods I see have options for 1k, 2k & 4k textures. My monitor does 1920 x 1080 resolution. If I swap down to 1k textures where possible will the difference be noticeable? Thanks. Ian.
  16. Hi, I have Frostfall & Realistic Needs & Diseases installed, & some of these npc dialogies re quite lengthy ... is there any mod which pauses game time during an npc speech, or some way of doing that in game anyway?
  17. Did you install Apachiihair using NMM? The instructions for that seem to say to do it manually.
  18. I suspect there are some errors with your ini files, certainly I recall having to edit my fgama to 2400 (& edit half a dozen other settings too) - did you edit your ini files according to what the ENB says? If not, that might be the problem. If not, there's a very good Youtube video guide, & some instructions about the settings on the Realvision nexus page. The .ini settings are towards the end of the video (link below), around the 56 minute mark, if you do want to watch it. (If you've not seen this video yet, it's probably worth watching in its entirety sine you're having problems. It is installing it using NMM though). Realvision page at Nexus : http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30936/? Yutube (full length) video : Good luck.
  19. If you've not got it installed yet, google Sheson's memory fix - works wonders. Re the HD texture packs, I don't know if they're worth it or not, BUT I installed Realvision ENB & interestingly the guide I followed for doing that specifically did not install those (it installed tons of other HD textures instead), game looks beautiful if a bit over-saturated at times, I've no crashes (touch wood), & it's fairly smooth, the odd stutter at times, but worth it, & well playable.
  20. If you're using AFT, there's the outfit option but also iirc an option for telling your follower how to fight ... I don;t have a follower atm, but I think it's the option under "when we're fighting .... ", you might like to take a look at that & also try un-equipping using outfit option any weapon you don't want the follower to use. That wouldn't explain why your followers use their fists to start with though :( I use immersive armours/weapons though, & at least haven't noticed this happening in my game.
  21. That's odd ... are you using AFT or UFO, or just vanilla follower? I could rarely get my followers to use the weapons I wanted them to with vanilla, but certainly AFT lets you equip followers exactly as you like, via the Outfit menu, if you're using AFT.
  22. Never used mod manager, I've used Nexus/Loot/Wrye Bash - but I'm sure I've read or seen something saying not to install Skyrim in Program Files (apparently that's where Steam tries to put it by default). I've got my Skyrim elsewhere (a Games folder I created), use Windows 8 & have loads of mods installed & working.
  23. Hi all, Very weirdly, sometimes, but not other times, female brown skinned elves (only been playing a while, not sure what they're called), appear naked. This happened in the opening sequence. The NPC concerned was the one who says Prisoner is for the chop despite not being on the list. I started the game a second time, without changing anything, & this second time she appeared in her normal armour. At that stage I thought maybe the problem was Immersive Armour not loading up quickly enough in the MCM. The first time starting, before that elf appeared nude, I had been in & out of the MCM adjusting all the dozen or so mods on the MCM. Regardless, second time around, I then played through the opening, got into the tower to hide from the dragon attack with Rolof I think he's called, & this time one of the two guards who came through the door (another female elf in the same armour) arrived naked. Once she was dead (tut), I did find her normal Imperial armour in her inventory. I'm hoping it's just an oddity restricted to the opening sequence & that now I'm past Helgen & the opening sequence all will be well. Obviously I have UNPB installed, otherwise I imagine those 2 npcs would have been in their underwear. I have ugrids to 5, tons of other mods (somewhere around the 120 mark I think) installed. If it is a mod problem, it's too late to figure out which by testing now. Has anyone else had a similar irregular issue? If anyone knows which mod might be responsible for the armour not being equipped, do you have any idea or a link to a fix? As well as Immersive Armour I also have the Amidorian Book of Silence mod, Winter is Coming, Cloaks of Skyrim & Complete Crafting Overhaul running - & that's it for the clothing/armour mods I think). Ian.
