New to Fallot Mod :D need directions
likeitsillegal replied to darkfender666's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Fallout 3 was notorious for running kind of poorly on Windows 7. I'm not sure about 8, though. While I'd recommend going with New Vegas on its own to start, eventually opting to try a Tale of Two Wastelands wouldn't be a bad idea, either; the mod ports Fallout 3 into New Vegas' modified engine, making it far more stable. Also, yes, you will need something called NVSE. There is also the Mod Configuration Menu that you'll likely have to pick up. For mods that overhaul NPCs as a whole to look less like, well.. potatoes, you have either Fallout Character Overhaul or New Vegas Redesigned. FCO mostly just alters NPC faces while adding a few races for the player to use that have the new head meshes whereas New Vegas Redesigned also alters some environments to better fit the original vision Obsidian had of particular areas. NVR is a little less lore friendly since it does change some NPC's normal armor, but overall I prefer it to FCO. For main character hairs, there's things like Cazy, nouk's and so on; Lings Coiffure is also on New Vegas and a few race mods have patches that save you the trouble of opening the GECK to add them yourself. There's also a few eye texture mods such as Spiritual and Soulful Eyes, but its really a matter of preference so I won't make a specific recommendation. For player overhauls, there's DK Female Face, nu's Women of the Wasteland and FCO - these are my personal favorites, but there are a lot more race mods such as Daughters of Aries. For males, FCO also works. Additionally, TFH's Rugged Race is pretty nice. For higher textures for the landscape, most people go for Poco Bueno or NMC's. I'd really recommend just looking at each and picking which you like more. Most of the textures in the Weapon Retexture Project are also pretty good. As for illumination, there are three big mods that kind of alter the "feel" of the outside environments. These are Fellout, Realistic Wasteland Lighting and Nevada Skies. You can only use one, and each have ENBs and other mods that are only compatible with them. Personally, I enjoy using RWL alongside Interior Lighting Overhaul. Nevada Skies has pretty dark nights and moods/themes you can toggle through. There's also Electro-City, which makes the Street Lights along the highways functional (among other lighting related things). For patches, I'd recommend NVAC as a must have. For actual game fixes, Mission Mojave and YUP are both good, so pick one. There's also the Uncut Series which deals with restoring some broken or disabled content. As for other recommendations, I'd say to try CASM, Project Nevada, Weapon Animation Replacers and the More Perks/Traits mod. New Vegas - Enhanced Camera is also pretty fun, and while a bit OP, Signature Weapons/Armors is good, too. -

Hm, you may want to try doing what Archive Invalidation does manually. That is to say you should go to your Fallout New Vegas folder and find the fallout_default.ini. Open it and find the lines "bInvalidateOlderFiles" and "bLoadfacegenheadegtfiles" and change their values from 0 to 1. I believe for FCO, you'll also have to open FalloutPrefs and also change the bLoadfacefenheadegtfiles to 1. Then save (make sure its as an .ini of the same name) and launch the game. If the FCO problem persists, first make sure you have the load order right (you can see the appropriate load order on FCO's mod page). If the problem still continues, try reversing your install order. So if you did your body mod first and then FCO, uninstall both and do FCO and then the body mod. -
Main Menu not loading
likeitsillegal replied to Maracuchote300's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Why do you have the Fallout3.esm in Fallout New Vegas if you're not running a TTW? Your load order is kind of out of it, too. The pre-order/Courier Pack stuff should be beneath the DLC. Your DLC should be in the order of: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road. Try running BOSS or LOOT to fix your load order? Though I believe the Main Menu not appearing is a sign of an out of date compatibility patch? Are your WMX and RFCW fixes up to date? -

Some mods will recommend that you install either the heads or bodies first, but I think overall its not a huge deal since they're just replacers? FCO adds a set of new races, as does the DK Caucasian, so there should be no conflict. As for the body mod, if you use Type3M, there shouldn't be any major visual glitching if you use an armor/body replacer fit for another Type3 body; its just that, when wearing that clothing, the body form will be a bit different from when you are nude or wearing an armor modeled specifically after the Type3M body type. Though after looking it up, MAK07 did make a clothing replacer fit for the Type3M body (assuming you didn't know rather than you simply not liking the changes it made). If you intend to use something like BnB, you'll need the Compatibility Skeleton. You'll probably want to install the Type 3 body and armor replacers together. Then probably FCO and then DK. Don't forget to toggle Archive Invalidation to avoid bugs. If you get a huge ugly neckseam, just do the head/NPC replacers first and then the Type3. Also, a side note about DK, there's both a mod that adds cazy hair to it, and another which makes it compatible with Lings if you want something other than the vanilla hair styles without going into GECK and adding them to the DK Female Face mod yourself. -

Turn Archive Invalidation off, open your game and save, then exit and turn Archive Invalidation back on. -
Karl always attacks me on sight?
likeitsillegal replied to RangerVet's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Spoilers
The best solution would probably be to enter the Longhouse, open console and click on Karl; from there you can try either "setav aggression 0" or, if that fails, you can "disable" and then "enable" him again to reset his AI. He's probably attacking because you're vilified with the Legion/have killed Caesar. -

Are you only interested in mods effecting your PC, or ones that change NPCs as a whole? FCO's head meshes are very nice, and if your interest is just in having an better alternative to the vanilla races of New Vegas, than go for it. However, I'm not too fond of the changes it makes to NPCs. If you want to overhaul NPCs, I'd recommend New Vegas Redesigned (My favorite version is 2, but 3 isn't so bad - it just makes some changes that are more to the author's aesthetic preference rather than retaining the armor of some characters in the vanilla game); the bonus is that NVR designed is dependent on FCO, so you can probably get away with using FCO's custom races while using NVR for NPCs. Though for female PCs, I'll always have a soft spot for DK Caucasians. Nuska's Women of the Wasteland mod is also a pleasant alternative to the dreary female faces of vanilla Fallout. To answer your question, FCO and any race mod should be compatible with Type 3 and vanilla body alike. The issue of neck seams is always there, but you can fix it in Photoshop should it pop up or you can simply resort to neck covers to conceal it. The "black underwear" is an Archive Invalidation issue; in NMM, click on the wrench/tool icon up top and look to see if Archive Invalidation is active. If it is, toggle it off, launch the game, load a game, then save and close the game before toggling Archive Invalidation back on. If its not toggled on at all, just click it to turn it on and launch your game to test. Archive Invalidation basically forces the game to load textures from loose folders instead of the packed .bsas. -
why are my mods not working
likeitsillegal replied to kingmii73's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Well, Rudy is an ENB so it wouldn't be in your mod manager. I'm also pretty sure that unless it comes with an armor replacer, most Type3 bodies don't come with an .esm or .esp. So the only item that should have an .esp is the Victor Griss mod. Make sure your NMM download/install location is set to the correct directory. If all else fails, just install them manually. -
World disappearing?

I seem to remember hearing that ENBs could cause a similar issue? Do you have antialiasing and anisotropic filtering turned off in your Fallout launcher? -
MCM and NVSE Issues please help
likeitsillegal replied to nater117's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Are you launching the game from its normal Launcher, or from NMM or FOMM? If the latter (which is how you should be launching if using NVSE), do you have it set to launch through NVSE on the drop down menu/button? If you do, and the issue is still persisting, I would first suggest that you try and run with the most recent beta release of NVSE. If your problem persists, I'd make sure that ONLY UIO is installed to start. uHud is obsolete, after all. Launch the game, load a save and see if you get any MCM errors. If all else fails, see if there is any NVSE plugin you're missing/your mods require. -
game wont run with mods
likeitsillegal replied to DoctorKaizeld's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
If it's freezing at the Bethesda logo, make sure you don't have Raptr on. If that isn't the case, make sure the "src" folder is not in your Data folder instead of New vegas' root folder. Alternatively you could try downloading an older/archived version of NVSE and see if it helps at all. -
NVSE Causes Fallout to crash

No problem and I hope NVSE works out for you. No idea why the latest version wouldn't be working, though. -

Have you tried out an older release of NVSE to see if it causes you to freeze? -

Make sure you don't have Raptr running. Also make sure you didn't paste the "src" folder into your actual Data folder rather than New Vegas' root directory. -
Yeah, never heard of anything like that for FONV. You can get more in-depth character creation if you edit a character in Geck, but there's only so much you can do with Fallout's faces.

Why would you want to Nuke Hoover Dam or New Vegas? Why would it be considered anything short of a Lawful Evil choice at best? I think you're underestimating how nuclear radiation spreads - we're not talking just the destruction of House. We're talking thousands of people wiped from existence, buildings turned to dust, scorched Earth (including the primary source of water and crops for the NCR and Westside) and radiation spreading over most of the explorable world space. Hoover Dam is an even greater risk - how much land would you stand to flood by destroying it? What kind of person would destroy something as important as the Hoover Dam rather than risk a faction they don't like taking it over? Helios one can supply some power, but without Hoover Dam most of the Mojave would be in the dark. Doesn't House mention having a defense system that is capable of shooting down Nukes coming towards New Vegas? And if he has the Platinum Chips, he would have the upgrades available to defend ALL of the Mojave from a nuclear blast? Nuking either the Dam or the Strip is not viable because you would essentially lock out all endings. Without the Lucky 38, Yes Man has no means to control Securitrons. The Legion would recede without the Hoover Dam and House would be dead. You would be branded a mass-murderer by the NCR since the Strip is a huge tourist attraction and Freeside, McCarren and Hoover Dam all house NCR soldiers. If anything, the NCR would push harder into the Mojave, using the mass genocide of their citizens to support a war effort because even without Hoover Dam there is still Helios One and another power substation. You were right about one thing, though. Hoover Dam, either directly or indirectly is what is drawing everyone to the Mojave. You destroy that and people would leave, rendering the entire world space a habitat for little more than fauna and junkies/raiders.

Well, Fallout New Vegas was working fine the night before, but now it's up to some strange behavior. Launched the game and the New Game, Load, etc options took forever to load. I didn't think anything of it, however, and continued to load a save. The game was, however, running poorly and within a few minutes I realized that I was unable to open containers or even any menus. So I shut down the game, opting to restart it. However, ever since, any attempts to launch will result in a black screen featuring only my in-game HUD after a few of the splash screens. The main menu music continues to play and it usually pops up with a "Caravan pack has been loaded!" message, which I can click OK to dismiss, although the game will immediately crash. My other games work fine. I've tried disabling mods, running from the launcher, the 4GB patch and NVSE. I've tried redownloading the default .ini files, nothing's working. I loaded up my usual mods along with the DLC and ran FNVEdit and BOSS - no bashtag errors to be seen. Does anyone have some advice? Edit: Alright, now it's just freezing while starting up before the main screen appears, or sometimes after but before load options appear. I've searched high and low for solutions, including making changes to my Fallout.ini and Fallout_Default.ini but to no avail. Regardless of whether mods or DLC are active, it still freezes.

Entering Gomorrah crashes my game?
likeitsillegal replied to cmelty's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Didn't killing that Bounty Hunter for the Garretts also cause a similar problem, although when exiting the Gomorrah instead? Though I think it was patched. No idea why Rockwell Pursuit causes a crash there of all places, though. -
No idea, I've heard of people with mods and without mods having the issue. The only actually solution I've heard from some people is loading an older save or character, deactivating Dragonborn, then reactivating it. Haven't tried it myself. Oddly enough, my monster animations are fine, but on the world map I experience somewhat frequent crashing. Hopefully Bethesda will have an official fix soon, or a fix will be included in the Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.

I killed the two cultists first and received their orders. I went to the boat docked at Windhelm, and talked with the Captain, but exited out before taking the option/doing the dialog checks where you offer him money or persuade him. Then I opened console and typed in, "player.moveto 04018281". For reference, that code is for the NPC Adril Arano, who greets you at Raven Rock when you first arrive. Are you sure 05 is the correct number for Dragonborn?
-
coc is for the actual name of the location. Like, "coc Whiterun". I was unable to even get to Raven Rock, but using the code before travelling (on the boat with the captain, but before travelling) got me to the Raven Rock dock. I haven't played very far yet, but it seems to work okay - only complaint though is that I crashed when attempting to access one shop keeper's inventory (but at that point I had accessed about 4 other shop inventories IN Raven Rock, so likely just a random crash).
-
In the mean time, I think I found a workaround. Once you have the objective to travel to Solstheim, put player.moveto xx018281 into console, with the xx being the number your Dragonborn is in your load order. You'll be teleported to the docks of Solstheim. Go through the dialog with the Dunmer at the docks, and then run back to the boat and talk to the boat captain. Asking him about being a Captain also cleared up my objective to "Travel to Solstheim". I missed the opening scene, but it's a compromise for now.
