  1. I found some information on FO76 PvP, reported by IGN, which outlines the anti-griefing strategy: - an initial attack on another player will have a very low damage rate - if the other player responds to the attack, subsequent attack damage will be normal, otherwise it remains very low - it's possible to kill someone in low damage mode, but there are penalties: the attacker will be labeled a murderer, will have a bounty, and will be displayed as such on other players' maps - one does not receive the usual benefits for a kill if it's murder - murderers will no longer see other players on their map This means it's not targeted at the usual crowd of hardcore PvP players.
  2. In case anyone is interested, I just merged 116 follower plugins with one or more followers per plugin using the standalone merge tool for Oldrim. The compressed 7z archive was 4.9 GB and was something like 18 GB when uncompressed. So it's possible to create large merges. There were a few things missing, such as voice files for the Witcher followers Ciri and Yennefer, some FaceGenData for several other followers, and I saw a follower with no hands, but overall it went well. I'm patching in the missing resources and have already fixed several of the followers. I had to examine every plugin before the merge. Some of the plugins were redefining core game elements, such as SkinHand, NordRace, changing HairColor, all sorts of things. Some had multiple errors. After seeing all this, I have come to the conclusion that it is a bad idea to install any mod without looking at it very carefully in xEdit, and one really should look at the files in the archive too. You would not believe some of the crap that goes on in these mods. A number of the mods seem to assume that they are the only mod installed in the game and can hijack whatever resources they want instead of providing new resources, which takes more effort. I can see how they could cause mysterious problems to surface in the game at some point. I even found mods that had Skyrim.esm as a master and reversed changes made by Update.esm.
  3. I think that's exactly what the definition is. I don't think agreeing is even relevant. One should not only consider opinions with which they already agree. Those are the ones from which you don't learn anything. Although it doesn't help that he chose a name that is very close in spelling to "insanity" and then launched on a series of diatribes which consistently paint the bleakest possible picture. I'm hoping he continues. I can't read his comments without laughing at the intensity.
  4. I still can't make any sense out of the FO76 information I know about. Todd Howard seems to be slightly annoyed that people are referring to it as a "survival game" and claims that it isn't. So it's not a survival game. It's not a standard RPG either. There won't be long, sophisticated quests as in previous FO games. There are no human NPCs. Quests are driven by robots and journal entries on terminals. There are a bunch of monsters that are new to FO, and some are claiming lore has been discarded, with varying degrees of outrage. You can build some type of settlements which can then be vaporized (or at least irradiated) with nuclear warheads by other players. There must be significant pieces of information that have not been released because this doesn't add up to an actual game, at least not by my definition.
  5. NOTHING could be further from the truth. The disgusting ratings of games, that commonly turn MILD PG-13 content into 'adult only', comes directly from the idea that non-gamers have a right to moral panic over games, which they describe as "childish nonsense" for working class children and wastrel males. We saw the exact same thing with the comic code from the 1950's, and the cinema code of the 1940s that killed all adult content in movies. Today, after many many decades of TOTAL censorship, comics and movies have (mostly) grown up. But games are still in the cultural 'ghetto' so all gamers (being "mentally deficient"- see that recent UN ruling about "gaming addiction") must be protected from themselves. Hence most literate well-educated parents have ZERO issue allowing their children to play carefuly examined games whose supposed ratings put the games out of their reach. But alongside these totally moral choices comes the general disrespect of the game rating system that can allow some parents to allow far too young children to play some of the actually inappropriate titles. A CORRUPT rating system, like that which currently exists for games, is worse than no rating system at all. Maybe. You do tend to have a conspiracy-theory-like explanation for things. I wouldn't make the "NOTHING could be further from the truth" claim. It's entirely possible that both are factors in determining the ratings for games.
  6. Like many things in life, it's not difficult once you know how to do it. Have fun. PS It sounds a bit like you are essentially trying to merge mods by copying them into one plugin. There is a tool that will do that for you in Skyrim. I imagine there is one for FO4, although I didn't find one using a quick search. It copies everything for you. Here is a link to it: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69905
  7. I'm assuming that you are making a copy of a weapon right now, so these are the instructions for doing that. As mentioned previously, I'm describing steps for Skyrim SE, but they should be the same for FO4. You have to change the path to the .nif file copy in xEdit. There's a MODL property under the Model section near the top of the xEdit right panel. Change that to match the new folder structure. This path starts just below the game's meshes folder. In nifskope, select (left-click with mouse) the visible mesh in the right panel, and this will highlight a line in the top left panel, which will have a tree-like structure of nodes underneath (you won't see them until you open it though). If the entire weapon doesn't highlight on the right, then you will have to select each separate mesh group individually and follow this procedure: 1. open the tree structure in the top left panel for the highlighted node until you see a BSLightingShaderProperty node 2. open the BSLightingShaderProperty node to reveal a BSShaderTextureSet node. 3. select the BSShaderTextureSet. You should see a list of Textures properties in the bottom left panel, some of which will have file paths beginning with "textures". These paths start from just below the "Data" folder for the game. Double-click on the file path to change it to the new location for the textures (if you made a copy of them).
  8. It's a lot easier to use xEdit for simple things like copying. The Creation Kit is an abomination. If the original is a master, it's because it made a shallow copy and is still relying on definitions in the original plugin. Remove it as a master and use "check for errors" to see what's missing. If you want separate copies of meshes/textures (you could point to the same resources if you don't want to change the appearance), you will have to copy them by hand into a new folder structure and make modifications to the Armor and ArmorAA records so that they have the correct paths to the new resources. The mesh files (.nif) have to be modified since they will have a path defined for the texture set, which means using nifskope or something equivalent. I've done all this. It's not difficult, but it is a bit tedious. *Note: I'm describing how to do this with armour in SSE, which is slightly more complicated than weapons, so there will be differences when dealing with weapons in FO4. I don't have FO4 installed currently. You don't have the AA record for weapons, but I'm going with the more complex example since you mentioned clothing/armour.
  9. This is nonsense, filled with false premises and misinformation. If you had any reading comprehension skills, you would see that I did, in fact, answer the question. Nothing you said in here refutes my basic point. In fact, you seem to be purposefully ignoring it so that you can push your own talking points. As for your last sentence, apparently you like to blame random people you know nothing about for your own shortcomings, such as an inability to complete things that you start. EDIT: I just read an SSE topic where someone gave the same advice to someone that I gave in this topic. It's also exactly what I did after I installed FO4 and SSE. It's the most sensible thing to do, at least as a starting point. One can always ask for more suggestions later after deciding what direction to go with the game.
  10. I think the ratings are more strict for games because you are directly participating in the violence, rather than simply observing it. I'm just guessing though, since I haven't paid much attention to the ratings on either.
  11. Well, I wouldn't go on mods like that because it's a bit older game. For an example lighting mod Enhanced Lights and FX have 13k endorsments but it's older and I have issues with fps with it, on other side Stalker Lights Sweet Fx and ENB have 4k endorsments + Enb and I don't have fps issues with it. You are making my point for me. "You" have issues with it. Who cares. It's specific to your hardware and mod setup. Are you suggesting that random people do what you do because somehow you know best? The best strategy is still to look at the most endorsed mods. That doesn't mean you take the top 20 and use them all. It's a starting point. You have to find out what is best for your particular setup. That takes effort. It's not as simple as just asking in a forum "what are the best mods".
  12. Why do people ask this question? Just go to the full mods list on the FO4 nexus and order it by number of endorsements. That tells you what the overall community thinks are good mods. Simple. Asking the question in here will give you individual opinions, which are less useful.
  13. Not a great answer. A target is something at which you aim with the intention of hitting. If you are making a product, there is presumably some market research that identifies a demographic that is likely to purchase the product. If you make a product with no target defined, you are not likely to be successful. So "target audience" is something that is defined *before* the product is created, not after it is sold.
  14. We have to realy on modders for that: https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-new-york-mod-shares-progress-with-lovely-new-screens/
  15. I've never understood why Bethesda doesn't farm out DLC development to other developers after BGS has finished with their own official DLCs. The TES and FO games have such demand for new content that this would make money for Bethesda and the other devs. It seems like a missed opportunity to make the fans happy and generate revenue for the companies involved. I think they lack vision in this respect. What's the downside? Everyone wins.
  16. Yeah, loading can cause stuttering. That's a different issue. I'm getting some stuttering unrelated to loading in SSE right now. It's a recent problem. Same game engine as FO4, more or less.
  17. Oops. I did not remember this correctly. It's not a 60 fps setting. It's still Vsync, and the large-screen TV I'm using as a monitor runs at 60 fps. It's under "Manage 3D settings." It's supposedly better to use this Vsync than the game Vsync, but using the Inspector Profile setting is the best. You can pick the frame rate you want as an upper limit. If you use the in-game Vsync, it wants to run at either 60 or 30 fps. If it can't stay near 60, it drops down to 30 (it does this in Skyrim SE anyway). So maybe Vsync is crappy regardless of which one you use. Try the Inspector and see if that makes a difference. When I first installed SSE, I didn't find a profile for it, but I see one there now. I don't recall any stuttering in FO4 and Skyrim LE when using the profile settings, other than that caused by massive loading.
  18. This is a topic for arguing debating about the merits/demerits of FO76 and BGS's game evolution with respect to FO (and even TES indirectly I suppose). Personally, I think BGS is a mediocre studio and, based on what I know so far (which isn't that much tbh), FO 76 sounds like it could be a poorly-planned blunder. Fight me. P.S. This is a more open-ended topic to keep the debates out of the other topics. As always, trading insults does not count as debate, so ad hominem argument tactics would be considered off-topic. Someone else can make an insult-trading topic for that. P.S.S. If you take criticisms of BGS and/or their products personally and can't control yourself, it's best to stay out of here. I'd rather not see anyone banned. We will see how this goes.
  19. There are a couple of options. I'm currently using the nVidia Control Panel, which has an option for 60 fps, but it's not handling 60 fps well when the game actually manages to hit that rate. There is also nVidia Profile Inspector, which gives you more options, such as setting the limit to 58 fps, which allegedly reduces issues I'm seeing. I'll be trying that soon. I used it for Skyrim LE and FO4 and it seemed to work well. If you use either of these, make sure Vsync is off in the ini file. In the Skyrim prefs ini, it's iVSyncPresentInterval=0, so I assume it's the same name in FO4. IIRC, some people were saying that using the game Vsync causes problems.
  20. Have you run any benchmarking software to make sure the SSD is healthy?
  21. You might want to get some software that dynamically reports the CPU fan speed and see if it's operating correctly and if it's hitting max rpm. I would get a cooling pad regardless. Laptops aren't well ventilated.
  22. I've just started to see stuttering in Skyrim SE for the first time. It seems to be the result of the fps limiter (using the nVidia card feature) not quite managing the frame rate effectively when it hits 60 fps. I see it hit 61 fps and it stutters. What sort of frame-rate limiter are you using, and what fps values are you seeing? That might be a factor.
  23. I read that there will be a beta release in October. That doesn't leave much time for fixes and gameplay changes. Anybody signing up for it? I assume there's an NDA so there won't be any new info provided from players during the beta testing.
  24. There should be a new topic just for people to argue about whether BGS sucks or not, and whether or not Todd Howard is a tool, so that the other topics can actually stay on topic.
  25. You know this is going to happen regardless of what BGS does. It raises the question: What is the purpose of your stream of comments? Do you have an actual goal? Some form of insurrection against the studio? It doesn't matter. Only sales will matter. As to the question posed in the topic, I don't know who the target audience is. I wonder if BGS has a coherent answer to that question. I can only say that, from the information currently available about FO76, I'm not a member of the target demographic.
