  1. Yea if they do, fight them every step of the way. In truth, it makes no difference to them either way and most would rather avoid a fight. Good luck buddy  Yea that's pretty normal even at idle for a gpu like that. Mine (when it was still working) often showed similar temps.
  2. Damn my desktop and my sisters laptop show fan speeds. I dont know man either your computer has no way of monitoring them (which is weird) or something is wrong... I just dont know.
  3. Figured I'd go with this to leave a little elbow room. What do you think? edit: that's supposed to be the 750 not the 650
  4. Well I can hear both running, but I don't know at % capacity. Do you mean like taking it to where i got it/ manufacturer to check? The link I gave will tell you what the speed and temps are... you can anyone to look at it if your not under warranty. I don't recommend opening it up yourself unless you know allot about laptops. I believe I have a 2 year warranty for malfunctions, but if its just dust i don't want to send it off for 2 weeks, that seems excessive, but I do need them to fix my V key that fell of the week after i bought it. I'm gonna check that link now Most warranties I know of are void if you break the seal and open it up. Its up to you.

  6. Running on an Intel G33 chipset and Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 with 6 gigs of RAM. The CPU is still holding up well despite being over shadowed by other more powerful ones on the market like your own and I never peak on RAM so I have not bothered to upgrade to 8. The only two things I need to replace besides the GPU are my inadequate 400 watt PSU and my DVD/CD drive which crapped out on the CD half.
  7. This will tell you what your fans are doing. It could be a fan failure or it could be dust build up.
  8. Thanks for your input Erik! The oven thing is interesting but I think I might as well leave the old boy to die in peace rather than desecrate the corpse. I was looking into upgrading anyway so I might as well slink on by with the integrated graphics until I do. I've already got a new power supply in the bag anyway and I figure I'll stick with Nvidia since they've served me so well in the past. The higher price is worth it, I think. Kudos given to both of you, thanks for your experienced input! Sometimes it just helps to have others confirm your suspicions
  9. Figured as much, I was just surpirsed I could still see anything since the screen is plugged in the GPU and not the motherboard connection
  10. So, hears the story... While playing a game, my screen suddenly seized up and blacked out. When I restarted the computer the loading screen was covered in funky dots and the resolution reset. So immediately go to the device manager and it shows a code 43 on my 9800gt driver. Just to be sure, I uninstall then reinstall the latest drivers and still get nothing. Then, to be double sure, I uninstall and install earlier drivers and still get nothing. I doubted any of this would work since it only happened while playing a game and NOT after an update but I was confused on one particular matter... so I humbly present these questions to you: - How do I even see anything on the screen if my GPU just bit the dust? - Is this normal for a dead GPU? - Could it possibly be something else I'm missing? - Is it even possible for a dust free GPU to just die when not under full load or even being that hot? Your learned knowledge in this field would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. p.s. I know my GPU was an old fart with one foot in the grave. I'm just not financially ready to upgrade yet but I was looking at either this or this
  11. - Are you playing on Steam? - If so are you using the latest patch? - Are using a particular mod manager? - Have you run BOSS? Try running FNVedit and making a merged patch.
  12. Well, the operation was a success. I ended up using Arctic Silver 5 anyway FMod, it's all Radio Shack had and I can't wait for online shipping since I'm leaving the state soon. I scared the crap out of myself when I turned the computer on because I got a warning siren and it didn't turn on. I thought I might have damaged the CPU when I screwed the temperamental heatsink into place, so I panicked for about 15 minutes then took it apart to check. I removed the heatsink and (to my pleasant surprise) the paste was applied perfectly. When I saw that the CPU was fine I began checking connections and realized I forgot to connect my GPU to the power supply last night. Removed paste, reapplied, put together, blah blah blah... super cool computer again. Thanks again for all the help folks! Kudos are inbound.
  13. Thank you for the suggestion but I only buy nvidia. Call it technological prejudice.
  14. Good to know, thanks. Hmm might look into the GPU thing... the 9800 is a dust trap and not very good with heat to begin with anyway. At this point I'm just holding its head above water until I can afford to upgrade to the 560ti.
  15. @bben46 I’ll certainly keep that in mind when I pick up the alcohol, Ben. Thanks! @FMod That’s interesting because I’ve read some claiming that spreading can lead to air bubbles and an uneven coating. Of course, looking at the previous factory job, it would seem that this was the method they used as well… that is to say the compound looks to have been spread rather than pressed. These folks seem to agree with you too so I’m going with that idea I think. I was considering using Arctic Silver 5, any objections to the product? Funny thing is, this whole thing started because my GPU was getting too hot for comfort and now here I am fussing with my CPU
  16. Wrong! just apply in the middle of cpu AND put the cleaned heat sink on it, no need to apply on heatsink contact and no need of credit cards Yea, figured it was Arctic Silver over doing it a little. Thanks for the feedback! Kudos given. Would you say the dose is about right besides that?
  17. Well, I’ve been suffering from some overheating problems due to dust build up. I opened up my PC for the second time only to discover (to my horror) that the heatsink and fan are actually one and the same and the dust build between them is incredibly bad. I couldn't clean them as they were so I chose to take the dive and remove them, thus separating the bond of cpu, heatsink, and the dreaded THERMAL PASTE… So anyway, tomorrow I’ll be picking up some stuff to clean and reapply the stuff. I’ve read up on it a number of times before, when considering doing the same for my gpu, but now it’s actually game time and I’m looking for some pointers. So if anyone here has had any experience with this nasty goop, I would gratefuly welcome a few pointers or warnings. Here’s the game plan so far: - Remove old thermal paste with 99% rubbing alcohol and coffee filters. Make sure surface is totally free of any fibers, hairs, or old paste. - Apply a very small dab of paste to cpu plate and tint the surface into a very five film with an old credit card. Wipe any excess paste from the sides. Do the same with heat sink contact.* - Once surface is tinted, apply a dab of thermal paste to the cpu plate approximitly between the size of a BB and a frozen pea. - Gently place freaking heatsink/fan abomination evenly atop cpu, thus spreading the thermal paste. - Firmly but gently screw heatsink back into place. *Arctic Silver recommeneds this “tinting” process to assure the bond but no videos I’ve seen have done this. Bearing in mind that all said videos got shockingly lousy feedback, I’m unsure. What do you think?
  18. Get your arss back here.
  19. Love your swords!!! Beautiful work, truly. Have you been working on anything recently?

  21. I believe I must not have made myself clear. I’m well aware of this concept but disagree with its core principles as an unrealistic pipedream. In my opinion, it’s no more valid a concept than a medieval fair. All it sounds like is a colony that expects to be left alone while the rest of the world covers it like a warm blanket. Where would this concept be without governments controlling all the variables outside it? Where is your proof that such a concept could even work beyond isolated groups? Can you conceptualize this working on a global scale without even considering the idea of chaos that I put forward? What’s being done differently here than what every civilization has tried to do in the past? It's not a new theory but just one reintroduced.
