spoilers Golems in Loc Muinne
dragonbird replied to FastBlackCat's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Hmmm. Never had THAT happen. I think it's because you left the room, rather than because you got the contract first (I usually get the contract first). So you don't feel guilty about letting the golem escape and terrorise the residents of Loc Muinne? But yours seems a bit different anyway - I only ever found a golem on one room (consistent, always the same one, to the north of the main entrance to Loc Muinne). -

I started to use traps a bit more, thanks to this thread. It's fun. I had a wonderful gargoyle fight where I just stood to one side and watched them kill each other after using a Fury :) I finished a playthrough on a Magic build last night. I don't know if I messed up my abilities selection this time, or if it's the wimping-down of Quen in 1.3, but I found it a lot harder than it was the last time I played with this build. I don't think I could have beaten Letho. -

I don't know what messed it up - the only thing I'm conscious of doing differently this time was getting the Bygone Era document read earlier than usual. But I could NOT get those **** ghosts to show up. I gave up. Didn't want to finish the **** guest anyway. (She says sulkily, kicking at a can on the way out) -

I didn't get any on my first couple of playthroughs on Easy. Maybe only Normal people get the opportunity to go mad? :) -

'K. Time for a nice long walk on the beach sometime today. -

OK. So the "when poisoned" feature is the Alchemy Tree equivalent to heliotrope and adrenaline? I see from the wiki that the Alchemy Tree has five abilities that have mutagen slots compared to the three abilities in each of the other trees. So you'd need seven good mutagens, if you also get the two in the Training Tree. Easy to get this many with 1.2, harder with 1.3. I'm not really impressed with the way they "fixed" the mutagen issue for 1.3. When I saw that they were letting you use them as alchemical ingredients, I was envisaging special potions that you could only make with mutagens - I guess that was wrong. If they're just substitutes for the existing ingredients, you're probably still as well using a cheaper ingredient for potions, and selling the mutagen. I got two "madness" mutagens on my last run-through. On 1.3. Couldn't believe my luck :) -

Thanks. It's something I'm doing wrong then, so I'll go back and try it again after I get back from Vergen. -

Has anyone done this quest since the 1.3 update? I can't get the ghosts to appear on the beach (first time). I've tried 11pm, midnight, 1am, meditating in a different area, meditating on the beach,... Quest markers are showing the beach and the hut. Nothing's happening in either. -

A couple of questions - if you're playing on alchemy tree, does the usage of mutagens change, or are you still limited to a handful of them on abilities (unless you install a mod)? Otherwise, I'm not sure why getting more mutagens is helpful. Are there some potions/bombs that you can only make if you use mutagens as alchemy ingredients? - A lot of the abilities say "... when poisoned". Does that mean poisoned by a creature, or does it include OD'ing on potions? (as TW1 differentiated, I'd assumed TW2 did too, but these abilities seem to have limited benefit if so) -

You've got me curious. I'm definitely going to have to try Alchemy Tree -
Issue with updates
dragonbird replied to Gatorskater's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Incidentally, if anyone is having FPS or other graphics-related problems since installing 1.3, there appear to have been new Nvidia drivers released today that seem to be fixing the problems. Beta only, so if you're NOT having problems right now, you may want to hold off for a while :) -

No, I never had that problem. Must be annoying. The good news is that I'm pretty sure from memory that this is the ONLY "thou shalt use this technique and only this technique" fight in the game. They seem to be doing one per game so far. -
Am I playing right?
dragonbird replied to Fahrenheit85's topic in The Witcher's The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
I think LenSquig was giving a generalised answer, as this is in the "no spoiler" section. :) Fahrenheit85 - regarding your last question, you'll still be in Flotsam after this fight. The only thing I tend to stock up on is dead endregas. -

spets21 - I can't help much with advice on this one., but after you finish this playthrough, I'd be interested to see your comments on it. I haven't tried an Alchemy build as I don't really understand how it works, but I'm curious about it. I like Rage and Conflagration, but I tend to use them mainly for the set pieces, where I have time to plan and know what's coming (for example, in Chapter 2, Melitele's Heart, the first two wraiths in the Asylum, Dmitri if you can get him to chase you down the hill). I don't use the snares much, mainly because I'm too lazy to set them and pick them up afterwards :) -

That sounds like a better technique than mine. I never did get to open the mid-way chest. -
I'm not sure about describing Murdoch as a leopard. Leopards are pretty awesome. Maybe hyenas around a wounded giant rat? :) On The Guardian's reporting back at the beginning, the "excuse" I would give is that it wasn't so political then, so it was media-bashing rather than politician-bashing. But it sounds like you're in Britain, and I'm not and I only skimmed the articles back then, so I'll take your word for it. Why was the Telegraph more anti-BSkyB than other newspapers? I can understand the Beeb's interest, but not the Telegraph. I do remember the Telegraph (and other traditional print media) slagging-off the Guardian for keeping on about the hacking last year, but that seemed to be based mainly on media fears that digging up dirt about Murdoch wasn't in their interest because of possible regulation. Everyone has their own agenda on this, of course, but The Guardian's still coming up cleaner than anyone else. It's interesting to hear the views in these forums though. I've been getting "public opinion" mainly from the comments sections on the online press sites, which is probably not that representative. My sister back in the UK doesn't seem that interested.

I would recommend running until you reach the third set of supports, it gives less time for the workers to build up. Maybe Aard the first supports, but there's no need to do both the first and the second. -

Interesting - I wouldn't have guessed on anisotropic. The minimal spoiler advice I'd give is "run like hell" and Tawny Owl. If you're already getting to the third entrance, you've almost made it anyway. -
I couldn't do it. I just finished my first playthrough since 1.3 came out, and I just couldn't bring myself to fight Letho wearing that trophy. It's just too, too... funny. How on earth are you supposed to handle the hand-eye co-ordination while you're giggling? ------------------- OK. I gave in. I think that the whole left wing/right wing aspect of this may be relevant in the US, where Murdoch is associated almost exclusively with the Right Wing, but I don't think it applies to the core story in the UK. The Guardian started digging in on this story way back when Murdoch's papers were still supporting Labour, didn't it? The Telegraph is usually considered right wing, but has been covering it pretty much as heavily as The Guardian, and with a similar slant, once the main story broke at the beginning of July. I think it's more about worms turning than hypocrisy. There seem to be plenty of politicians on both sides who simply realised that this was finally the moment to get their revenge on someone that had they had been forced to kow-tow to for years, or who had been threatening them for years. The fact that it's the Tories who are being embarassed is just bad luck for them - if it had broken a few tears earlier it would have been Labour, as both parties have been either in bed with Murdoch, or afraid of him, for far too long.

There's a lot of running around in Chapters 1 and 4, but in Chapter 4 it's story-related. There CAN be a lot of running around in 2 and 3 if you don't plan out your quests, or if you're the type of player who grinds for XP (I must admit to spending large chunks of Chapter 2 killing for XP when I was playing on hard, but it isn't really necessary). Chapters 2 and 3 also have massive amounts of story development, so it more than makes up for it. I usually went for temporary upgrades to my steel sword, it's a lot cheaper. Please all take note of LenSquig's comment about keeping one barghest skull.

I haven't played Roche since 1.3 came out, so I guess it is possible there's a bug, but I think you will bump into him.
