  1. Patch 2.0 is Released! Go to: http://www.thewitcher.com/patch2/ Be sure to remove any mods from your game and turn off your anti-virus checker before installing. Note: Steam users have posted many installation problems, so you may need to check on their forums about the status. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Below you can find the full list of changes: New Game Modes Arena - is a new gameplay mode that is separate from the main adventure and narrative of The Witcher 2. In this mode, Geralt of Rivia duels a variety of foes to the death in a gladiatorial arena located in an unnamed town somewhere in the Northern Kingdoms. In addition to winning gold and valuable items, players also receive points for their wins. They can then post their point totals on-line to compare their achievements against those of other blood sport enthusiasts around the world. Geralt can encounter both foes and allies in the arena. He can recruit the latter for a fee to assist him during his most challenging clashes. To post your point totals to the forum, you must be registered and have a forum account! Register and establish your account directly through the game launcher or go to www.thewitcher.com. You can then log in to your account via the launcher. IMPORTANT: Players using mods to alter their character attributes and statistics will not be able to post their point totals from the arena to the server. This is a necessary precaution to prevent any attempts at distorting competition or misrepresenting player achievements. Tutorial - The game tutorial takes the form of a brief adventure during which players learn how to use a range of game mechanics and functionalities. Assuming the role of game protagonist Geralt of Rivia, players save a wounded knight named Bolton of Ironford while learning game controls as well as the basics of combat and alchemy. This transpires step by step as the tutorial guides players through a series of minor missions. Upon completion, based on demonstrated abilities, the tutorial recommends the difficulty level which the player should choose in embarking on the main adventure of The Witcher 2. Dark Difficulty - The ‘Dark’ difficulty setting is the most demanding difficulty level in gameplay terms. Under this setting, each and every foe represents a significant challenge. In addition to raising the difficulty bar, the module includes several new sets of equipment/items that are linked through a dark legend detailed in the Journal. Once all their components have been collected and donned, the Blasphemer’s, Oathbreaker’s and Kinslayer’s outfits provide great advantages in combat. The swords included in the outfits strip opponents of Vitality while supplementing the witcher’s. However, given that they are cursed, the swords provide no benefit and harm Geralt by sapping him of Vitality as long as the outfits to which they belong remain incomplete. Corrections and improvements to combat: Numerous improvements have been made in the targeting system. Parrying is now unlimited (even when Vigor is completely depleted), though parries no longer cancel all damage (maximum 50% reduction once the relevant ability has been acquired). Responsiveness of game controls has been improved. This includes but is not limited to casting Signs, parrying, and attacking immediately after evading an opponent’s assault. Geralt’s attacks are no longer interrupted by attacking opponents. Attacks are now contiguous and foes cannot interrupt Geralt’s attacks by landing a blow. Assorted fixes now prevent opponents from incessantly attacking Geralt after he has been knocked down. Geralt can no longer be knocked down repeatedly in quick succession. Also, he rises quickly while evading subsequent attacks. Geralt no longer attacks opponents located behind other opponents positioned nearer to him. The target locking system has been improved. Preference is now given to previously highlighted targets. Target selection has been improved. Priority is now given to foes affected by a critical effect facilitating the completion of a finishing move. The additional two steps Geralt took after mounting an attack with the W, S, A or D key depressed have been eliminated. Attacks can now be continued even when a key controlling Geralt’s movement (e.g. W, S, A, D) is depressed. Attacks can now be continued if the attack key is depressed immediately after the final strike of an attack animation sequence. Geralt can now pivot 180 degrees immediately after completing an attack. Assorted problems with key responsiveness have been resolved. Keys no longer need to be depressed twice or more to trigger a given action. A distance attack problem has been resolved. Geralt now mounts distance attacks (lunge with sword in hand in the Fast style) when opponents were located at a suitable distance from him. Other corrections and amendments: Casting several bombs no longer blocks further inputs. An option has been added to the configuration tool enabling aspect ratio to be set independently of resolution. The amount of disk space required for game patching has been reduced. The loading of selected Witcher 1 game saves no longer causes the game to crash. A greater number of monsters now appear in the cave leading to Loc Muinne. Improvements have been made in the manner in which monsters are spawned in the mist in Chapter 2. The visual effect accompanying Adrenaline use no longer disappears prematurely. Archers now draw their swords more quickly when Geralt approaches. Mages no longer automatically cast shield spells when Geralt casts daggers at them. The game is now paused when Geralt executes a finishing move in combat. The troll in Chapter 2 has been corrected. Previously, in some circumstances he could not be attacked. Physics on cast daggers have been improved. The site for aiming daggers is now more visible. Geralt’s animation when he dies while casting the Axii Sign has been corrected. An exploit in the fight against Letho has been eliminated. Previously, this foe could be killed by casting bombs in quick succession. An exploit related to the ‘Insane’ difficulty setting has been eliminated. Previously, game saves could be loaded with difficulty set to this level, which was contrary to design intentions. Camera positioning/operation has been corrected during the boss fight against the kayran. Camera control via gamepads has been improved. Assorted adjustments have been made in mutagen statistics. The ‘Junk’ filter in the Inventory has been adjusted to provide for correct item filtering. In the Inventory, the dialogue window warning of prohibited actions has been corrected. Assorted corrections have been introduced to the mini-map in Chapter 1. Audio balance throughout the game has been adjusted. Erratic character teleportation in mini–games has been eliminated. Assorted adjustments have been made in animations applying to nekkers. A minor bug in the “Scent of Incense” quest has been resolved. Numerous minor fixes have been introduced in character lip-sync throughout the game.
  2. This is the first time Ive ever played DOA. I decide to let Loghain live, and marry Alistar to Anora. I think they could make a very effective ruling team if they try. (I put in some pretty naughty mods, so they should be very pleased with each other in bed *grins*). If Anora is half the woman I think she is, Alistar will be thanking me tomorrow! My thinking about Loghain: I figure he should walk in the Grey Warden's Shoes, make him really see the magnitude of disaster he created by his bad decision at Ostagar (Ahhh... there's nothing like the staunch support of a reformed wh0re). I'd have Morrigan stick pointy ears on him and make him live penniless in the Elven ghetto too If I could. Also being the pragmatic warden that I am, I just cant bear to throw out any viable resources when I'm already scrapping the bottom of the barrel. Loghain is a seasoned veteran and military leader, not too mention a pretty good sword/board tank. I figure in the worst case, I can use him as cannon fodder and steal all his equipment ... Bwahaahahhaa! Yeah losing Alistar is serious loss for the party, BUT he is going to be very useful married to Anora and rule as King. In many ways this is even more important than his role in the party. He and Anora can give the country immediate stability and leadership that it desperately needs. Alistar might be pissed off with me, but I'd rather have that than the darkspawn loving me.
  3. Oddly enough, I find using my PC mouse make Arm Wrestling super easy and using xbox controller very difficult. Arm wrestling is kinda like steering an oil barge. it takes a while for your adjustment to become noticable, but once it gets going its hard to stop, so I found moving my mouse in very small increments works great. Maybe this will help you? Im not sure what exactly your poll is asking about. Do I like Arm wrestling? Do I like Arm wrestling with mouse? Do I like Arm wrestling with xbox game controler? Do I like the idea of some sort of mod for arm wrestling? Do I like Witcher 2?
  4. The only other thing I can think of is there might be still be hard-to-find leftover folder/files and items left in your registry. I normally run a windows cleaner and then a registry cleaner after removing any software to avoid any left over garbage that might create future conflicts. I like the free versions of Piriforms CCleaner and ASUlogics registry cleaner: http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/registry-cleaner/download/ http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner As always, use caution whenever using cleaners and always create a restore point for your system before using any registry cleaner. You would need to uninstall Witcher 2, run the cleaners, reboot, then installl the game fresh (as admistrater). Make sure to disable any anti virus software before re-installing the game.
  5. I would wait until after patch 2.0 comes out (eta: Sept 29) and see what scenes will be added in with the DLC, its supposed to have a ton of new stuff! In case you didn't see the post from the generous folks at CDPR, they posted the Music from the X-Box game trailer at their site to play or download: http://en.thewitcher.com/community/entry/86 Cheers!
  6. I'm a little confused about your post: Are you asking about how to get the special moss? Are you trying to CRAFT mongoose? It is a potion you make yourself (not crafted) You must have all items required to make a craftable item with you (in your bag), otherwise the craftsman's menu will not display it. Click on the diagram in your inventory and review the list of items needed to make it. Be sure to let it scroll all the way down, since its easy to miss an entry at the bottom of the list. Also double check that you have enough of each item in your bag. I'm not sure if this answers your post, but I hope it helps.
  7. A lot of people find that using x-box controller does not work well with this game. It was designed as a PC game and many (myself included) get much better control and response using mouse/keyboard. Try it both ways and see what gives you the best control. I highly recommend playing it WITHOUT any mods the first time through. This is a very well designed game and does not need any mods to play a good run. It will also give you a chance to decide what things YOU want to see different the next time you play (yes, this game is very much worthwhile to replay... several times... !) Some of the mods I like are: Panel Tweaks: http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=87 Hud Tweaks: http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=132 The Witcher 2 Tweaks (graphics utility): http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=181 Return of the White Wolf (makes Geralts hair shiny white, like described in the books): http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2 Note: You need to be logged into your Nexus account to download the files. Have fun!
  8. A couple of Answers: 1) Are there any mods for The Witcher on the Witcher Nexus, or are they all for The Witcher 2? - Yes there are mods for Witcher 1 2) If there are Witcher mods, how do I tell them apart from Witcher 2 mods? - Go to Files, Select Catagories, Top Block is the Witcher 2 mods, Lower Block is the Witcher 1 mods. Note: Be sure to log into your Nexus account to download files. http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/ Another good source of mods and adventures for both Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 is at: http://en.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?/forum/44-mods-and-adventures/ Cheers!
  9. I believe you need to use mod tool called Gibbed Red Unpack: http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=184 I dont know much about using this tool so I cant help you beyond this. You might hop over to the mod section of the forums.
  10. I am sooo looking forward to patch 2.0. It looks like it chock full of goodies. I know a lot of people have been poo-pooing it and it hasnt even been released yet. I say CDRP has been awesome, They really support their game they keep rolling out DLCs and for they are giving it to us for FREE.
  11. "Firefly bomb" must be a old pre-release name for the Harpy Trap. You need to buy a diagram to craft Harpy Traps (you will need to make 7 of them). I believe the Runesmith, the Blacksmith and the human guy that sells traps and bombs carries the diagram.
  12. Open your Character Menu to display your Skill Tree. Select a skill that you have already put at least 1 point in AND has a mutagen slot. Most skills do not have a mutagen slot. See Wiki Skills which ones do http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2_skills Mouse over the Skill you want to add a mutagen too, look down at the bottom right corner and you should see option to add a mutagen by pressing "Enter" This will take you to another menu listing all the mutagens you have in your bag. Highlight which Mutagen you want to add, then press space bar to confirm. ** IMPORTANT NOTE ** You cannot change out, replace, or remove a mutagen once you have placed it into a skill. Once its in, its there forever. So choose carefully. Its a good idea to save game before adding mutagen in case you make a mistake.
  13. You might try this mod called "Witcher 2 Profiles". I havent tried it out, but it sounds like what you are looking for. http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=185
  14. Some possible things to try or check: 1. Your current game file may have a corruption, try reloading an earlier saved file and see if you can save while playing that one. 2. Check If your disk full or close to full (or extremely fragmented or have bad sectors) 3. When you installed the game and updated with the patches, did you remove all mods and turn off your anti-virus before installing? If not, you may have picked up some errors. 4. Try running virus check just to make sure your system isn't compromised by some sneaky trojan or other nasty. 5. Try a cold reboot of your system (completely turn off all power, then turn everything back on). Thats about it that I can think of at the moment.
  15. I haven't heard about this patch fixing the combat bug. No one has mentioned anything one way or the other on other forums. I haven't had too much time to play since I installed the 1.35 patch so I dont know yet. I DID find a greater strength and a madness mutagen in the short time I did play. I think they did increase the greater mutagens drop rate. Ok, greater strength is a sucky mutagen, but still its the FIRST greater mutagen I've seen since installing patch 1.3.
  16. The Witcher 2 - Hotfix 1.35 released today. http://www.thewitcher.com/community/ Issue with shadows in 3D Vision mode has been resolved. Screenshots to savegames made in 3D Vision are now visible in load menu. Issue with Steam achievements not being registered has been resolved. Blood texture glitches in game with ubersampling option turned on have been fixed. Pocket item counter is properly updated after picking up an item which is already selected. Issue with ingredient counter when brewing multiple Thunderbolt potions has been resolved. Finished “Scent of incencse” quest is no longer marked as failed when entering Loredo’s residence at the end of Chapter 1. Corrections have been made in the greater mutagen drop rate. Deleting savegame after entering memories and flashbacks menu no longer causes “Loading available flashbacks” message to appear. Game exe files are no longer treated as a threat by popular antivirus software. Patching the game automatically right after installation no longer causes Launcher.exe error on Windows XP systems. Game installation folder is not recognized if diacritic signs were used in folder name on Windows which doesn’t support them. Patch now properly informs about the cause of the problem. Name of two scientists in Flotsam have been corrected. Storage chest description have been corrected. Description of Mahakaman Rune Sihill imported from The Witcher savegame have been corrected. Note: I noticed that my game launcher did not automatically update from 1.3 to 1.35. I downloaded the patch manually and it updated just fine (read carefully to pick the language version you need!) . Be sure to remove any mods before updating and you may need to turn off your anti-virus.
  17. GeForce has an excellent tweak guide for TW2: http://www.geforce.com/Optimize/Guides/witcher-2-tweak-guide It includes the minimum system requirements and detailed description of each configuration setting and how each one improves graphics and how much it taxes your system. This might help you figure out which setting to adjust up or down. If you are having problems with your motherboard, you may need to troubleshoot that first. You can get many random problems from mild to severe if your MB is in trouble. Good Luck!
  18. Who was the first assassin, the one who Geralt kills at the end of TW1? He doesn't seem to be one of Letho's team, and wasn't wearing a medallion. - His name is never mentioned, but I seem to remember during the conversation between Geralt and Letho in the Kinglslayer's Hideout (Roche's path), Letho telling Geralt that he killled one of his own to save Foltest. I took this to mean Geralt killed another witcher (although not specifically one from the wolf school) Why doesn't Saskia still get poisoned if you're on Roche path? If the priest really did poison the goblet, he must have done it before going to the meeting with Henselt, as he's dead after that. So she should still have been poisoned, even though Stennis is dead and Geralt isn't there. Does this mean the priest wasn't the poisoner? - I noticed that Saskia was looking quite healthy when Geralt meets her to get Vandergrift’s sword (Roche's path). Maybe the plot failed or maybe she simply didnt drink it (The smith that made the cup said he put decorative reliefs inside the cup as well as outside, but it would cause scum to stick inside the cup... would you drink out of a scummy cup? ewwwww!) Iorveths path and Roche path do not neccessarliy have to in sync with the other, after all the fun of being able to make decisions is that it does change the story. Did Radovid still capture Philippa if you're on the Roche path? - I don't remember one way or the other. I'll have to watch for that when I get to that part on my current run. If you're on Iorveth's path, and rescue Triss, why do you pick up Philippa's dagger when you find Iorveth near the end? Wouldn't it make more sense to leave it with him, so that he can still try to cure Saskia when he recovers? - Possibly, but when you consider Iorveth would have to face a hostile dragon thats controlled by a pissed-off sorceress to do it, I think a witcher would be better suited to try. What did Cecil dream? - Its never exactly said or shown what Cecil's dream was. Judging from the conversation between Geralt and Cecil, when Geralt was trying to get the key to the Harpy's Lair, it had to have been pretty bad, because Cecil immediately agreed to give the key when Geralt threatened to make it public (even though the door had been sealed by Cecil's grandfather for good reason). Definitely related to Cecil's drinking and his promise to Skalen Burdon's mother, he would always stay sober (which he has)
  19. I did this quest in patch 1.3. This quest can be a bit buggy, and got stuck the same way you are describing. I saved my game logged out and reloaded it. Went back to talk to Maverik at Henselts camp an extra time, then return to the beach and meditate until 11PM. The ghost finally showed up. I dont know if it was neccessary to do all the things I did to get the quest to work.
  20. Its a lot of fun, but the mutagen drops got severely nerfed with the patch 1.3, so its not quite as fun as before.
  21. First off, Congrats for winning !!! You have the patience of a saint. I feel really for bad for you about not being able to loot her after all the trouble. That truly sucks! I dont think I ever tried using Axii on a kikkimore, but I do know Igni and Aard both worked fine on the kikkis without causing any problems. Yeah there are several games I wish I could loot while in combat, but I know they do that to prevent the players from running in grabbing the goods the running away without ever having to fight for it. *thinking about all the loot could have stolen in WoW* Ahhh yes, the Inventory system... well every game has to have at least one annoyance... Chin Up, I know you can kick that Kikki Queen tail AND loot her... GO GET HER TIGER!!!
  22. I've seen that happen a couple times before. One time it cleared up after I ran into the exit tunnel, then back into the chamber, then back to the exit tunnel. The queen got unstuck and came after me. When she was in spell range I cast Aard and the roof came in and things proceeded like it should. Another time I decided to go back into the chamber let the regular kikkimores respawn over and over while I killed them in a hilarious group killing frenzy (I got a ton of experience from that) at some point the queen suddenly got unstuck *Brown Trouser Moment* and almost killed me while I was running like crazy back to the exit tunnel. I got Aard cast just in time to kill her. Needless to say. I dont reccomend doing that. Oher times, the queen would just stay stuck and I just had to reload and do the fight sequence over again (booooooo!)
  23. I've never used lures, just the traps (I think my tender little witcher body was enough of lure, considering how many times I got dogpiled by the critters). I really liked using those traps you find lying all over in the forest during chapter 1, I think you can collect 50 of them in chapter 1 and another 17 in chapter 2. They have a great damage, they snare and bleed, seems to work all almost everything AND they are resuable! I would setup a LOT of traps about 25 sometimes more depending on what mischief I was planning) before going into a fight. Then I would run around and get the enemy to chase me while I ran through my evil minefield of traps. Sometimes I would stand at the edge of my minefield and toss a few bombs at them too, many times that wasnt even neccessary. Another fun trap to use is Rage, its good crowd control. I used several of those when I did Meliteiles Heart. Make those monster work for YOU!
  24. There is no right or wrong way to play. For the Kayran fight, I used Swallow, Tawny Owl and Mongoose potions and (I think) you will need 1 grapeshot bomb. No need for any oils or whetstones on your sword. There is no need to buy many recipes in chapter 1, just a few basic ones is fine. You can buy more later. There are merchants that sells recipes in every almost every town in every chapter (sometimes you can find recipes as loot, but thats rare). As you continue playing, you will figure out if you need more potions, oils, bombs, traps or not. Remember, most potions have both positive and negative effects when you use them. Witcher Wiki is your friend... be sure to read what the potion actually does before buying it (and if there is a better one suited for your build) http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/The_Witcher_2_potions. Its also a good idea to read about Oils, Traps, Bombs too before shelling out your hard earned money on the recipe (spoken like a true witcher ... LoL!) If you need to beef up your weapon damage use Oils. Save your whetstones for later when you REALLY need them, you wont be able to get anymore. I mostly used Hangmans Venom for my Steel sword and a few other oils for my Silver sword. It very useful to read about the monster before you fight it. The monsters you have knowledge about from fighting or reading books are listed in your character page, click the icons on the upper right to see what monster you know (the other icon shows the "aquired" abilities you learned). The monster's description aften gives you a good idea what oils, bombs, spells to use on them. (For example Endragas can bleed to death so you may want use Brown Oil) You can also put Runes into the slots on your sword (if the sword has slots, some do not) to improve it. Runes are expensive and permanent, so consider carefully before putting them into your sword, especially swords you will replace soon.
