  1. Yes I agree...however I played a while witht he texture pack combiner installed with no CTDs...it is the other texture mods that broke the camel's back. I suppose I will need to whittle it down even more. I am also trying Set Priority to set the process to above normal. I guess what stumps me was my ability to run these mods with a HD 6790.... I really need an auto PCB like was made for Oblivion.
  2. Folks I have been tooling around with Skyrim for over 6 weeks and I just want to play. Granted I have mods and it is all my own doing but I have come to the conclusion that my issue is not necessarily mods but hardware and/or game engine related. The reason being that I have tested all of my mods one by one and there is no mod I can say is the culprit. I have CTDs every 10 min or so, always during or just after a cell change. 90% of them are exterior to interior cell changes. Looking at MSI afterburner I see that my highest vram usage is about 3030 MB. Average is about 2600-2800. Temps never go above 65 C and usually hover around 57-60 C. I have heard that the game engine does not like 4096 textures so I have stuck to 2048. Steps I have taken to fix the problem: Installed new HD 7950 and drivers Deleted skyrim folder, reinstalled steam. Fresh install of skyrim and vanilla ini's. about 1500 other things if you want to know but trust me in 6 weeks between me, google, and the Nexus we have tried everything. SO I'm guessing that as I add mods and increase VRAM usage, it is causing instability...however I was using a 1GB HD 6790 on a different install, same computer, same mods, and NEVER had CTDs like this that I couldn't fix. So I ran the texture optimizer and that brought down the VRAM a little.... about 10-15%. But is 3000 MB of VRAM over the top? I use texture pack combiner and these mods: Active Mod Files: OS on Crucial M4 128GB SSD game on OCZ 60GB SSD i5-2500k @ 4.0 Ghz 8GB RAM @ 2133 Mhz 3GB HD7950 OC to 990/1500
  3. I used to have random CTDs running between the Guardian Stones and Riverwood on my HD 6790. I have many of the same mods as you but not nearly as many. Now my crashes are related to exterior>interior cell changes in Whiterun, and I have a HD 7950....but anyway.... Same yourself 6 weeks of frustration: Backup for data folder, then delete Skyrim's local content. Then manually delete the whole skyrim folder. Reinstall Skyrim and let it build the ini.... Start a new game that is 100% vanilla. I mean NO mods. NO ENB or injectors. Not even SKSE and USKP. No DLC either, just Skyrim.esm and Update.esm Do the Helgen scene and make a clean save after you exit the cave. Make some choices about which mods you cannot live without. I have found that many of my mods were more trouble than they were worth. Then you can use this stable save as a foundation for mod building. Add 3 mods at a time using NMM and test them well. Start by adding texture and mesh mods first. Then add animations, sounds, lighting mods...Save bigger, complicated and scripted mods for last. Use wrye bash to see what mods you have in your saves in case you need to back track. Never load a save that has content which you uninstalled. Don't tweak the ini yet except for volume, controller/mouse stuff. Keep adding mods until you find the offender. Then keep adding 3 at a time until you have all that you cannot live without and no CTDs
  4. I believe my CTDs were related to my changing the FOV. Still testing regarding the giant attack.
  5. Maybe someone can enlighten me.... I was running 90 and 100 FOV on my 1GB HD 6790 for a long time with no issues. Now on a 3 GB HD 7950, which can run beyond ultra settings, I get CTDs when I change the FOV. I have a 16:9 1080p monitor and have tried FOV 84 and 90 but it crashes within 5 min, mostly after entering an interior cell. I'm gonna try a mod that uses a esp and test it, I just wondering if there is something I need to know about the 7950 regarding this matter.
  6. I have a few bugs in the Jorrvaskr living quarters. I often freeze when entering. I also noticed some disappearing textures: the wooden braces on the walls which help support the arches on the ceiling. As you approach them they are invisible until you get right up close. Possibly an incompatable mesh/texture? I wonder if this is causing the freezing. Using the console I clicked on one and got "00079541". I want to find out what mod or vanilla file that is so I can fix it. Is there a database I can check? Thanks for any info.
  7. A mod that adds one guard to each city who can only limp around with an arrow in his knee. He is the only guard allowed to speak the line and he is also free to kill without fear of being arrested, in fact killing the guard bestoys the gift of charity thing on you. Is it at least possible? I dare to dream.
  8. Looking at your script logs I would say that you do have some leftovers that are causing problems. If you uninstalled a scripted mod that did not have a clean save feature or procedure to uninstall, you need to revert to a save made before that mod was installed. I would suggust you do a complete uninstall and then reinstall. 2 weeks ago I did a complete reinstall, I mean complete....uninstalled steam, deleted my skyrim folder....reinstalled video drivers.....cleaned my eyeglasses.....began fresh and clean. Went through the Helgen intro with zero mods and I have been working from a clean save made just outside the Helgen cave. So I can say that for me the problem is not leftover scripts. Although the lvlpredator errors are there I'm not sure they are the cause....at least for me. I get those on every new game and they eventually go away as the papyrus adjusts.....I am more concerned about the giantattack error, because it never happened before, on any other install, and I wonder it it is somehow related to my constant CTD when entering Jorvasskr, home of the companions, who happen to be battling the giant. Pinning down a modded Skyrim CTD error is like being a detective investigating an incredibly intelligent and cunning yet completely deranged criminal. I swear I have had this Jorvaskr CTD for a whole month and it is driving me nuts. I can't pin it down even after checking mods one by one, regenerating ini's, reinstalling, etc etc. I will play for 2 days with the same mods/settings and BLAM it will CTD, and then repeatedly CTD in the same place where it was fine yesterday. I know it's a mod or setting because vanilla plays fine.

  10. I too have this problem....only recently too. I have only had a complete freeze once from it, but it always freezes for at least a second. I have literally been reinstalling Skyrim for one month. Despite upgrading to a HD 7950 from a 6790 I have more CTDs than ever, even when I use less mods. Anyway I assume this is happening on a new game because the giant attack only occurs the first time you approach Whiterun. Over by Pelegia (sp) Farm you will see some Companions battling a giant. Its there to introduce you to the Companion faction. If this is happening to you on a save where you have already visited Whiterun then your problem is different than mine. 11. Hey folks I have a question for all mod authors everywhere who can hear my voice. Of course, first off, I want to point out that I can only imagine the hard work you all put into your mods. Plus answering of questions and fixing incompatabilities etc etc....THANK YOU! SO my question is: Would it be possible for all authors to get together on some kind of system for naming the mod files? For example, I have many mods. Getting them to work together can take a lot of time and effort. When I need to re-add a file to NMM from my downloads folder, or when I need to inspect its contents in the NMM mods folder, it helps when the mod's esp and main file have the same name as the mod itself, or at least the first word or two.. For example, I have a an esp in NMM and I need to find out which mod it belongs to. Let's call it "Mel's Stuff.esp". However I have no mods named "Mel" anything. And nothing seemingly related to it. I can spend a lot of time trying to hunt it down. The name of the file could be "pussywillows" for all I know. Also it could be that "Mel's Stuff" would show up under the NMM mods tab as "The Marvelous Mod Made by Mel" Also about 3 mod files in my NMM Mods folder named "Main" or "Main file". I have 2 named "NMM installer". Another named "2048" . Another issue can be the list under the "mods" tab in NMM. I have several with the same name and version number. Like when I add the main part of a mod and then a patch for it they both have the same name. Then I have to guess which is which. I just mention this because even though the mod users could rename these files, wouldn't it be easier for the author to rename them once instead of thousands of users different doing it?
  12. I recently upgraded to a HD 7950 from a 6790. Since completely reinstalling Skyrim I have had odd CTDs related to exterior>interior cell changes. *Side note: Also issues related to the Companions quest (CTDs entering Jorrvaskr and when speaking to Eorlund) So in an attempt to fix the CTDs I initially ran the game cache validation. It reaquired official .esm's I had cleaned with TES5edit and also installscript.vdf. CTDs continued. Eventually I came back to the validation tool, and it again reaquired installscript.vdf. And it continues to do that each time I validate. Even if I run it twice. 1 file always fails to validate. I am using the latest drivers. I have Steam installed on a seperate SSD than Windows so it shouldn't be a UAC issue as other related posts have mentioned. Any ideas?
  13. Ever since I upgraded to a HD 7950 from a 6790 I get ENB behaving oddly sometimes. I use 119 and never had this before: When skyrim laods the ENB version flashes "0.0" twice and then numbers like 3.6, 4.0.....the the normal version info comes up but the start menu will not repond and I have to ctrl-alt-del to quit. I reset the render info. I'm using the latest driver for the 7950 too. I tried the "forcefakevideocard=1" as recommended on the STEP site for ATI users but all that did was darken the lighting. I guess I could use some info on settings for ENB and ATI users as well. I cannot find anything specific online so any thoughts are appreciated! i5 2500k 3.8Ghz 3GB HD7950 970/1420 8GB RAM 2133 Mhz game installed on OCZ SSD
  14. OK I'm good with ideas but not sure how realistic they are in relation to the Skyrim engine. I'm sure what I'm describing would be difficult to make.... I had this idea when doing tedious mini quests....like find 20 of this, or deliver so-and-so to whats-her-face... Anyway, I thought of a mod which adds another dragonborn to the game, one that comes after the main quest is complete. You can choose the sex of the dragonborn. Maybe you can control the race or other features? They are level one when you meet. Maybe there is a back story? He/She is a follower who gains XP as he helps you. You can assign misc quests to him/her. They can marry. They can buy things like stewards in Hearthfire. You can shout to each other over long distances, or use the Greybeards as a relay (hey they got your attention before......) to communicate follower commands...maybe he can shout to you to request help or to affirm when he is has completed his task.... One command could be a "loot" command, where he loots for you, and packs it too..... He could be revived once if he is killed and he will do the same for you..... I guess it would basically be a heavily modified steward? Anyway does anyone think this is possible?
  15. Can anyone else verify that the 1.8 beta breaks map markers and quest markers? It also nullified my custom ini map settings. I use Map HUD enhanced markers but have seen reports of the same on other map marker mod forums. Of course I know it's beta but I wanted to report it.
  16. Hello- I am hoping someone can please help me regarding a long time CTD issue.....Every time I get a CTD the last lines in the papyrus logs refer to "WordWallTriggerScript" For example, my latest log: [10/17/2012 - 05:11:58AM] error: Cannot request LOS to a None object stack: [ (00000014)].Actor.HasLOS() - "<native>" Line ? [ (000709F6)].WordWallTriggerScript.isLooking() - "WordWallTriggerScript.psc" Line 135 [ (000709F6)].WordWallTriggerScript.OnUpdate() - "WordWallTriggerScript.psc" Line 310 I get the CTDs inside, outside.....usually during or just after an interior/exterior cell change, or when activating something. Last crash was in a Hearthfire home but I have had this long before. Attached is the last part of my last log when the error began.
  17. I'm getting an odd problem, my AA is suddenly not working properly. I can't think of what I did but when I put AA at 8x nothing changes. Usually 8x will make a noticeable performance impact but there is no performance drop, and the quality does not change. I use a HIS HD 6790 IceQ x turbo. The only changes I made recently was removing imaginator and waiting 31 days to remove bloat. My injectors seem to not work either. I have tried FXAA and SMAA, with and without the game AA and no injectors at all. I generated new ini's I uninstalled my ATI driver, used driver fusion is safe mode, restarted and uninstalled the GPU through Device Manager, and reinstalled the ATI 12.8 drivers I fired up Mass Effect 3 and the AA was fine. dxdiag found no issues Any input is appreciated
  18. If it is possible someone should make a stealthy weapons pack. All I know of sneak kills are blade/blunt/ranged. Things like a garotte can be made easily. Ice picks could be added too. I imagine the animations would be the hardest part?
  19. lol ramble on, friend :) yes tweaks help but I find that of course with each new patch some ini tweaks can hurt performance. The first thing that REALLY bugged me about the vanilla game was the shadows. They are THE weak point IMO. But I learned to live with medium setting on shadows and terrain manager. Ditched ENB effects for plugin based lighting mods. The only .dll I use now is FXAA. As far as mods, well I have a great many. Nothing specifically for those areas, but of course I use a slew of texture mods in Texture Pack Combiner (which is REALLY worth the time), And over 80 plugin mods but I want to point out, I have used many mods since 11/11/11 but even without mods, settings which my computer handle great in 98% of Skyrim seem to trigger stutters, CTDs etc in these areas only. Active Mod Files: Lower settings prevent crashes and freezes, but there is some stuttering. Like you say, the engine is junky for a game as complex and infinitely diverse as this. But to be fair we should consider all the different unique combinations of computer hardware, computer settings, mods, ini settings.... wow it boggles the mind I have been playing crash free for 2 days or so, but I have only been around Windhelm, one of the problem areas. Only some stuttering. I'd love to track down the issue...maybe a future patch will address it. It really pays to wait 31 days ingame too...get rid of those old scripts and shrink your save file. Just do it in a small interior cell, like Breezehome. This mod allows you to wait 31 days in 1 step. Takes about 12 minutes of waiting irl. I also used Hialgo boost for a while until I got my install optimized. It reduces resolution when the GPU needs a break, but I could hardly notice any difference, even at 1920x1200
  20. Yes VRAM is a definite issue. I have 1GB so all of my HD texture don't help....what DOES help is the busywaitrender setting in ENBs. I have a HD 6790 so I use ENB112 which is optimized for ATI, and I set EVERYTHING off except for the busywaitrender setting. For colors and such I use Project Reality and Imaginator. Also Radeon Pro is useful, the flip queue size adjustment helps. However the problems I get seem to be only apparent in certain areas. I have had great performance, no lag or stutter but no matter how good I tend to get CTDs/stutter/freezes outside Windhelm, around Riverwood, and in Karthwasten. The problem related to the script above was (i think) due to discovering the Kynesgrove burial mound before the quest with Delphine.....I have had it before.

  22. Heh...of course I can't make it crash now.....I wasn't logging before. I ended up lowering the terrain settings lower than normal, but still a little micro stuttering I suppose that area is just a little more demanding GPU wise than others, for some reason.
  23. Maybe be a corrupt save? That can happen even under good conditions. Did you uninstall any mods recently? Missing/changed textures can do that. For example if you used a blood texture and uninstalled on a save where there is blood near you, your save will be messed up. Also go to your save folder in Documents/My Games/Skyrim. Sort them by date and see if you have any recent saves that are abnormally large in size. If you uninstalled a scripted mod improperly that could be the cause as well. I got into the habit of checking save sizes due to save bloating from scripted mods. Then try loading an earlier save. If that works there you go. If you use scripted mods you can wait 31 days in game to get any old scripts out of the save.
  24. I need input please. I have always had this issue. It seems to be setting related as it happens without mods too. I cannot pin down which setting but I suspect it is the terrain settings in skyrimprefs.ini, but even with low settings it still stutters. I see a few people online have the same problem too. I get these problems on the roads north and south of Riverwood. My games plays great everywhere else, It is worse when going from Riverwood to the Guardian Stones. as I go up the rise to the stones, I get micro stuttering everytime. Sometimes it crashes with no error. Sometimes it crashes if I pause. Sometimes it freezes. Going back to Riverwood, it sometimes crashes but often freezes as Riverwood comes into view. I can fast travel there fine, and no crashes in town. I'm just wondering if this is a game flaw or just me.....any input?
  25. I suppose this could be considered a mod request, but to me its more of an inquiry about the bounds of possibility. And since the mods already exist, I thought I'd post it here. Over the past week I have gone back and forth from Realistic Colors and Nights, Realistic Lighting with Customization, and PR's Climates of Tamriel, all with and without ENBs, FXAA Injectors, and Imaginator. This has been a quest for my own personal favorite flavor to settle on that will look the best with the least sacrifice in performance. I like ENB, but using all the pretties slows down my HD 6790 more than I like. I use a lot of HD textures and about 120 other mods. So I like the idea of a plugin lighting mod. In life, there is a compromise with every choice you make. Same goes when modding Skyrim. For me, RCRN provided fantastic interiors. I like the map terrain textures too. I especially love the dynamic interior light they are adding. But it seemed to me like the days were too dark and colorless and the nights too bright. With RLWC, The colors and range of customization were great. Plus a lot of other mods have patches for RLWC. For me RLWC slowed loading a little more than other plugin lighting mods, and the weather did not seem as nice as CoT. I really like the CoT weather. Clouds are amazing, much better than anything else I've seen so far. Lots of compatibility patches out there as well. Is it possible to get these authors together? I'm imagining a Lighting Mega Mod with dynamic interior light like RCRN, the tweakability of RLWC, and the weather/textures of CoT.... Any thoughts?
