ahh well, maybe I was understanding the whole 32 bit thing correctly.........:( hopefully Bethesda will do a 64 bit executable in the future, probably unlikely though...
-
Hahaha! I told you I was a noob and that probably sounded stupid! but yeah I am a recent console convert, just started PC gaming last august.... But this is good to know, bring on the 8Gb!

Great, thanks!

Would you be interested in making some Stargate themed technology props? Stuff such as hightech looking computer screen, etc to be placed in map? I can give it a shot. Like i said im a beginner. Let me know what you want and i can get started on it, and learn more in the process. Cool, here are a few screens of some things i'd like for my mod, see what you can do with it "Thor's Hammer" Side view of an Asgard Computer Front view

Yes! I like both ideas but I like running a city better, it would almost be like Civilization meets Skyrim, and I absolutely love both of those games!!!

you can go to skyrimnexus.com and type in the search bar "Nexus Mod Manager", this will bring you to a download section, just download and install by following all the default prompts. After it is done installing, you will now be able to use the "Download with manager" option on any mod. just download with manager and it loads into NMM, then you can double click to install and launch Skyrim directly from NMM. If you decide you dont like the mod, you can then double click on it again, and it will uninstall the mod with no adverse affects to the game. Also, some mods do not have the "Download with manager" option, in this case just download and save, then you can use NMM to "add mod from file" option, and it will load the mod into NMM and you can then install/uninstall just the same as before. I love NMM, it makes installing and uninstalling mods very simple! Actually I was mistaken on where to download NMM, it is here - http://www.skyrimnexus.com/content/modmanager/

Well, let's start with this, is anyone even interested in playing a mod such as this? a storyline that is essentially a spin-off from the stargate universe...
-
You should be able to just drag the folders into your skyrim/data folder, it won't overwrite anything from the game, and if you don't like it after checking it out you can just delete the folders you just added Also the Nexus Mod Manager is worth getting, it allows you to have a specific place to monitor the mods you are using, it will place them in the correct folders, and it will unload them if you don't want them anymore, very useful tool.

I am a noob and this may be stupid, but i thought 32bit could only support up to 4gb?

I am requesting to get in contact with the various stargate modellers from oblivion (LHammonds, Chimera, AlexKnight1978, etc) to hopefully assist by providing weapons, stargate, dhd, and stargate NPC character models for a near conversion mod I have planned. The mod I am planning is a spin-off of stargate in Skyrim that essentially marries the Elder Scrolls universe with the Stargate Universe (speaking in terms of Lore), i am in need of these models, and do not necessarily want to "re-invent" the wheel since most of the models needed have already been created by some talented modellers. This mod will contain a deep story that catapults the Dragonborn into battles on several other planets via the stargate. Of course the CK will be needed to begin, but gathering models is something we can do right now. Also, I have spent a fair amount of time constructing the backstory of this mod, and have started writing dialouge as well. I noticed LHammonds has some nice Stargate weaponry that could be used in this mod, Chimera has some nice NPC models, and AlexKnight1978 has some nice stargate and DHD models that would be very useful in this mod. Although these three people are the first I have seen that have developed and used stargate models in past games, *anyone* else who would like to join and help is more than welcome! We will also need environment artists that can develop technological envrionments similar to that of the Ancients and Asgard technology Please contact me for more information our team currently has a size of two, but we are looking to expand as the CK release draws nearer, thanks!

Some help with mesh editing and importing please!

Python error on import for me too :( -
BSA viewer/extractor, thanks! I'm very new to this stuff, and have been doing quite a bit of searching for how to mod the skyrim Nifs, but have been largely unsuccessful. There is a post on how to add custom weapons in game somewhere on this front page, it has a video, and I think it would be useful for what you need as well Edit: Here we go http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/485274-video-tutorial-how-to-get-custom-weapons-into-skyrim/page__pid__4210588__st__100#entry4210588

I would also like to know how to do this, apparently NifSkope is just one of the programs you need, the other is Blender 2.49b or 3Ds Max as I have heard, the only problem is I haven't been successful in opening a Skyrim Nif in blender, although I can open a Morrowind Nif in Blender. I can however view a Skyrim nif in NifSkope, but only from the mods I have downloaded, I can't seem to find the Nifs from Vanilla Skyrim....

I get it, I understand that polys is a very important aspect of modelling. As I am starting out, the "doodling" idea is what I plan on doing, you know just making what I can. Then after I have learned the software and its ins and outs, I can start minimizing polys to certain levels and trying to perfect my modelling skills. I see it as a work in progress, going from just doing what I can to get something that resembles my target object, to doing something that resembles my target object a little more, then a little more, until it looks very similar/identical to my target object. By then I should have learned the basics and a little more of the software. Ill probably make a few more things, paying a little more attention to the poly count. Then once I have created a few objects that I feel look good, from there I can really start paying attention to the poly. As a process, I have to get a model to look the way I want it. Then texture the thing to make it look like it needs to. Then regard polys and so forth. But to help you identify where I am currently, I have been first trying to create the general outline of a Stargate and I cant even do that :/. I cant get a primitive cyclinder to widen its edges and still keep a hole all the way through the object, so what I have done is created two separate cyclinders and put one just inside the other trying to create an front-facing edge appearance, but now I cant seem to connect the two cylinders like that. Now i dont know if you can make a Stargate outline from a single primitive poly mesh object, but I am experimenting with using two, and still failing.............This is going to be a process of learning how to crawl even first, but thats why I have decided to drop that for now, and focus on maybe a simple sword or something, LOL. The stargates, staff weapons, etc will have to wait until I can make at least a sword! Thanks for the back and forth though, it helps me put things such as that into persepctive

the autodesk site is giving me problems downloading 3ds max 8/ (I think they're undergoing maintenance), but i do have softimage and blender 2.49b loaded! I think I would be most interested in Hard Surface modelling and Environment art for the purposes of the mod I am planning (a sort of marriage of the Elder Scrolls and the Stargate Universes), so there is going to be a wide variety of interactive props, weapons, clothing, armor, environments, etc that I will need to get good at creating. I am usually pretty quick with picking up new software, but we shall see with this endeavor! **Just to put this all in perspective, I would need a few new NPCs based on Stargate characters, but outside of that, I need to make several new props, weapons, and clothing/armor, and new environments (both Skryim-esque, and somewhat technological). My friend and I have a good story mapped out, but this mod will only be as good as the models we can create/get. This isn't your normal Stargate mod where people play as stargate characters, it is more of a spin-off that we have created using the Lore of the Elder Scrolls and the stories in the Stargate Universe. We have spent several weeks on the backstory/story/quests/dialouge of how the Dragonborn rises to either help or hinder whoever he/she chooses in the expanse of the universe. To be totally honest, I am also seeking people to help with this project (if anyone is interested  ), as I have come to realize that the models and environments needed will likely be a workload that wont be effieciently handled by a group of two (with one being me, who is just now beginning to delve into the topic of modding). Stargates, staff weapons, armors, and the like are in the large scope of this mod!

Great info! I am downloading Blender 2.49b right now, and hopefully the student version of 3Ds max! About texturing, I have photoshop, I can probably look this up, but what about pointers on this. I recall FallenJudge saying that textures will make/break a model, so what should i expect with these. I am sure I can look at some tuts on how to map them, but how/what do i need to know about first making the textures in photoshop and putting them into a file format used to texture my models? Thanks for all the info!

Wow, I have much to learn! So if I make a model in softimage, I should be able to export to blender, then from there I can convert to a nif for skyrim, but it sounds like I'll be better off just finding that version of blender and working from there....
-
Okay, so there is no way to get .nif in softimage! That is good to know! I will definitely look into blender, thanks, I was searching for information on specific file types and such but couldn't find anything concrete on whether or not I could get something from softimage to skyrim.....
-
I am also exploring the idea of 3D modeling, and a program I found is made by autodesk, as 3Ds Max is, but it is free and meant for modders! I looks fantastic, as I've been looking at many tuts on it, it looks like it can do some amazing things, I just don't know much about it yet, so I can't be 100% sure it will work for modding with skyrim..... Search "Autodesk SoftImage 7.5" to check it out

Wow! Nice work! I've seen some nice armor out there but nothing for mages! Can't wait to see it in game!

Epic Skyrim: E1 - Three Must Have Mods
kingchris20 replied to treadpool's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I love SkyUI! The fact you can sort by weight, value, etc makes it all the much better, I just can't wait until it is incorporated fully, and also I would like to see a "total weight" for each category of items such as food, potions, etc... I have installed several of these post-processing mods as well, my Skyrim is looking, well riveting! -
I appreciate your comment! I look forward to beginning! I believe I will start with a simple sword or something like that. I know you said you didn't really know about softimage but how different do you think it is from something like 3Ds Max? I know it is quite expensive, but being made from auto desk softimage should serve my purposes right, for making models to place in skyrim once the CK comes out? Also I will look into that Blender software you mentioned.

I'm interested in learning how to model using Softimage 7.5 to create models for use with Skyrim. I was wondering what the general opinion is of softimage 7.5. I have downloaded it and am starting to learn how to use it, and the reason I chose this program is because it is free. Will softimage be sufficient to build models to use with skyrim? I am new to modding and what the best free materials to use so I can begin creating the models I need for the mod I have planned. So, any tips for a newcomer?
