Agreed, old site could be ''facelifed'' but not completely thrown away. And new site is much too heavy. Also I feel it is aiming too much at being pretty, not displaying easily the information that is needed, the information displayed is much easier to access on the old design than the new one.

As I said before it seems to be that the staff is focusing on the backend and see the redesign as a placeholder until they can get to it and tweak it to something that is pleasant to all.

The problem is that you can't do that. Your site is the way that the majority of the people visiting interact with you and the content on here. If that interaction isn't a good experience then they aren't going to stay around until the backend is done and you turn your attention to the user experience.

Of course I can only judge by the people who post, who I'm guessing is a small percentage of visitors, but of that group the overwhelming opinion is that the new design is not a good one when compared to the old. Would it really be that much of a humiliation to take a step back and say "yeah, this design isn't working for the community" and stick with the old design until a better compromise can be found?

Please see my post towards the bottom of the previous page.

Would you rather have a sh*tty mod manager come out, that has less-than-desirable functionality with a website that was supposed to have been designed to sync up to it? Or would you rather just be patient, let them finish Vortex so that they can then turn their full attention to the site? Dark0ne was very clear about his dev returning to work on the site only after Vortex is released.

UX is terrible. why the f*** does everything have to be so big.

at least the search feature is fixed. having to click the search field twice was annoying

please keep the option to use old layout once roadmap is complete.

Try reducing the browser size to 80%. Worked for me. Text is a little smaller, but nothing I can't handle.

Freeloading complainers like you don't realize that you do indeed have the power to cause changes in the design of the website. However, only if you are actually able to verbally express yourself in a way that explains your grievances and what the developers could do to improve the situation. Stop crying, stop complaining, try and help the developers improve on the things you feel are bad.

It's a situation where nobody loses, everybody wins and the website improves.

As far as where we are from, that's irrelevant, and I don't see how this has anything to do with freedom of speech. but FYI I am an American, and value freedom of speech.I have also been told to shut up many times in my life, usually because I need to be told to shut up. I am also not afraid to stand up and shout for what i believe when it is needed, like when it interferes with basic liberties like "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and no our founding fathers of the constitution were not talking about you personal happiness to have the Nexus page look just like you want or else. Do you not hear how "entitled" you sound? If you truly understand the meaning of "freedom of speech" you would also know that freedom of speech does not give you the right to disturb the peace and make a general nuisance/ass of yourself.

So ok, we all have heard how you just hate this new Nexus Layout, that you don't want to help make it better and that you just want to make noise and you feel you have a right to make as much noise as you want. Well friend, I will use my 1st amendment right to tell you that you are not standing up for your freedom of speech, you're just being a general a-hole. (oh BTW, you don't have a free speech right on the Nexus. The Nexus is very open in regard to speech, but they have the right to bounce you if they want. You can get your own web site if you want to say anything you want, but I digress..)
Now if you had actionable input for these great people here at the Nexus to work with and they were trying to shut you up, I would be standing right next to you being as loud with it as I can

Really though man, just chill bro. Don't take this stuff so seriously man. No one is attacking you personally. It's just words on a page man. If this stuff makes you wonder if people want to kill you, may I suggest seeing a Doctor for some medication or at least finding another hobby.

I am disturbing peace? Thats something i dont hear often :D

See, you may be right, this whole thing went out of control. But is that really my fault? Look how it started. I only wrote on sentence about my frustration. Thats it. Everyone could have ignore it, but they didn't. From the very beginning i was put into defending myself for saying that. And with every time i was defending my saying, i got more hate and had to defend myself more.
Everybody could have read my statement, think "ok, another whining a-hole" and go on. But no, it seems i had to be put in place and explaining myself for some reason.

So i am not convinced, that it was really me disturbing that peace. I felt more disturbed in my own peace with defending myself over and over again.

I think we need this stickied--Useful feedback is defined by fortune.com as:

  • Is highly specific.
  • Contains advice that’s applicable beyond the project at hand. It carries wisdom you can apply toward future projects.
  • Is encouraging. While critical, it is never so harsh that the creator decides to give up.

Part of the problem I have with some of the feedback (and the only reason I haven't multiquoted dozens, if not hundreds of such posts and put their authors on blast is because that would be shameless flaming) is that it is not encouraging to read. No one who designs something for someone wants to hear, "Dood, ur site sux," because that is no different than saying, "Dood, u suck." These designers are pouring bits of themselves into this, much the same way a mod author pours a bit of himself into each mod. That would be like telling Brumbek that SMIM sux because you don't like his FOMOD.

How ridiculous is that?

So when giving feedback, find something specific you don't like about the new site, and more importantly, say how you would do things differently in your feedback to offer useful suggestions to the designers. It's not rocket science to look back over the thread and see which posts got acknowledged by Dark0ne. And doing that would prevent a lot of the acrimony in this thread.

Not 100% sure, but I think you are experiencing an issue discussed and rectified with a tip on the first discussion thread.
I'll explain briefly: (BUT, this doesn't answer why you cannot permanently enable it btw... it just handles the address change issue)

I had the issue where all my bookmarks were not working due to the new address. And my complaint at the time was along your lines where many bookmarks etc were pointing to the "old address".

A user mentioned a workaround, that has worked flawlessly for me, and others I would assume.
Not only did this allow me to keep all my hundreds of bookmarks... but it also dealt with any "old link" anywhere on the internet pointing to the old web address.

I use FireFox myself.
The "addon" is called "ReDirector".
Anytime I click an old bookmark (without the rd in the address), it adds the info and processes the request and takes me to the right page.

In fact, I suggested that info/post be stickied (it wasn't), as I was sure it would help many others.
Of course, that is if you are okay with browser addons.

A quick google fu search shows it available for Firefox, Chrome, Opera and possibly others as well.
In fact, see below & go there and read up on it. It supports a few browsers.... and is the one I use.

Good luck.

much like how web gmail offers 'comfortable' 'cozy' and 'compact' layout options, something similar would be good here.

TeHCoQ wrote: with chrome, you can set global via settings.

If I set the zoom to 80% on Firefox, it only affects that specific site I'm looking at. I distinctively remember the zoom thing affecting all sites, but it doesn't anymore. It doesn't put it back to 100% unless I tell it to, so I can just come back to Nexus without having to resize it.

This would be most intelligent. Dark0ne can fix what is inadequate in the old design. That would be rather difficult though, as there was nothing inadequate about it, at least in comparison to what was changed with this horrendously awful inferioredesign.

A lot of us have given feedback over a month ago. When I put two or three comments with information within the thread, Dark0ne informed me that it was unnecessary, because it would have been noted in the first post. Thus, everyone only needs one "useful" post, but I would not wish to discourage anyone from voicing their discontent with this heavily inconvenient redesign.

I was driven back here when I needed to use a drop-down menu for "mod author" or "user-submitted" videos and images. Why the hell is there a drop-down for two options? Some of these design choices are so inconvenient, I don't understand why they were made.

I'll reiterate that the worst choices are with mod scrolling and unnecessary use of drop-downs. This is the case for comments, where we must use drop-downs to nevigate more than one page, rather than the previous, superior design, in which there were arrows that would jump a number of pages, or to the first or last page. There is also the afforementioned images and videos conundrum. However, the mod searches are also awful. There's too much scrolling. There's more scrolling in the redesign for ten fewer mod displays in comparison to the original design. I do not believe these are good changes. They are wholly unnecessary, and inconvenient, and everything is too damn large.

I have set it to 75% zoom. Theo only issue is when typing in text boxes. The letters are a medium gray instead of a more normal black for some reason, so there's less contrast, and thus the letters are less readable.

It was good as it was. Never touch a working system. If only they would have made it better, but that is not the case. Nothing is better at all. At least not for the user. Maybe there were technical reasons to do this crap. But to me as a user, i feel f***ed by nexus.
I know i am not able to change it and nobody will listen to me or my feelings about this and at least it is not my website, it is theirs, so nobody will give a single f*** about my opinion, but what i can do is tell them every other day, that i hate it forever and ever and i hate the nexus team for changing it. They need to know even if nobody cares. In a democracy, thats the least i can do. Using my right to stand up and say "I hate you". So thats what i do.

Ethreon wrote: Proper feedback - give feedback on the new version, either specifying what is wrong and you want changed, or what could be improved. The old one is not coming back.
"I hate it" is not really of any use to anyone.

At least more as if i just would remain silent. I know it is of no use. But it is not my duty to be of use for anybody. I have to endure the new design. So you have to endure my criticism. And i in return have to endure your criticism of my criticism. Circle of life.

It's a situation where nobody loses, everybody wins and the website improves.
schnubbel76 wrote: Lava Croft, ok, heres what the developers can do to improve the situation. Give us the option to switch back to the old website. Then im fine. No complaining anymore.

mcdanielskh wrote: schnubbel76 I did say Please
Look, I don't hate you, and I seriously doubt that even you can whine enough to make anybody want to kill you. (Although I could be wrong).
I just wish you would take a anti-drama pill and move on for god's sake.

Ethreon wrote: Possible bug ?

Good luck.

Frickin' genius. Thanks for this! It should be stickied as a workaround in the meantime. :)

TeHCoQ wrote: modifying browser zoom is a global setting for the browser, not just this webpage.
that is not a solution.

new font doesn't scale well either with browser zoom.

much like how web gmail offers 'comfortable' 'cozy' and 'compact' layout options, something similar would be good here.
Ethreon wrote: Browser zoom is per page, not global.
TeHCoQ wrote: with chrome, you can set global via settings.

if you are suggesting that I ctrl+minus 2x every time I visit this website, that's an even more ridiculous workaround.
BeastBlood1885 wrote: If I set the zoom to 80% on Firefox, it only affects that specific site I'm looking at. I distinctively remember the zoom thing affecting all sites, but it doesn't anymore. It doesn't put it back to 100% unless I tell it to, so I can just come back to Nexus without having to resize it.

Edit: Just noticed Twowolves already said what I just said. Whoops! Ignore me repeating something that's already known.
waswar1 wrote: A lot of us have given feedback over a month ago.

@waswar1: In regard to the use of arrows for page navigation, where are those not present? I ask this question in good faith and a desire to know, because navigation arrows are available for all the site areas that I use. However, I regularly visit only a very few areas of the site, which leaves me ignorant of what may or may not be the case in other areas.

I do not like the layout, it takes much more time to look at a "list" of mods than ever before. Very time wasting.

I used to click on "Top Files" on each mod page, and get a nice quick LIST, that I could quickly scan UP and DOWN with minimal eye movement, and minimal scrolling.
Now I get a Bunch of Moderate Side-by-Side BOXES, that I have to either scan Side-to-side then Down, then side-to-side, then DOWN then Side-To Side, scroll down the page, scan side-by-side, then down, then side-to-side etc, making looking at the Top Files list take a lot more time.

This is the equivalent of opening a folder in Windows with a lot of files in it, and being able to look at the files in LIST view and see ALL the files at once, and then switching to EXTRA LARGE ICON view, while leaving the window the same size and now having to scan side to side, AND scroll up, down and sidewways in the SAME window to see all the files.

A total step backwards.

If there was an OPTION to quickly make that a Single Column LIST VIEW, along with the Huge Giant Side-by-Side Boxes, it would be nice. I.E. being able to switch views like in Windows, between List, Extra Large Icon, Tiles etc, it would add to the flexibility, because for me, this new layout is a hindrance to fast "mod shopping"

HadToRegisterr,
"By George", I think you may be onto something. I totally get what you're saying and I think you may have helped me to understand why some people are so upset about this new version. I like both the new version and the old. To me it's not that different. However, when you referenced "..opening a folder in windows with a lot of files in it, and being able to look at the files in LIST view.." it made me remember back when Windows first switched from listed files to a default of ICON view. People when "Ape s***" crazy for awhile about how they hated windows. Eventually it was figured out (or windows added, i can't remember which) functionality was added or discovered that allowed for a List view
I had no problems with the switch to ICONS but in some folders I prefer the contents to be in a List as well, and it sucked to constantly have to change the view. So I was supper happy when in addition to having the listview windows eventually got smart enough to remember your folder preference on an individual folder level. Perhaps, that the key. Perhaps there needs to be a way to configure for a list view or at least a tab that people can go to that has very little going for it visually but a very efficient list format with basic description next to each mod name displayed such as to get 20-30 on a page. Then clicking on any one could then direct you to the mod page as normal. If this tab was to have a robust search/sort function too, I think the "efficiency type people" would be very happy. Could be useful to everybody sometimes, especially if you know what you're looking for and just want to find it fast vs. "Window Shopping" and looking at all the new bling bling mods  You know, it like the old form vs. function argument. Function people say I do not care about Form I just need it to function efficiently. Form people say, If it does not look good I or others will not want to use it. Turns out both are correct.
Your idea (if added to the new Nexus) may be what holds us all together as one big happy modding community instead of this fracture that I feel is occurring over this new Nexus.

Thanks, that's what I was going for, a solution to make EVERYBODY happy.
For me, the Big Boxes with pictures is just complete overload, while Lists for me are easy.
I too have certain folder on my system that are set to always be "List View", with other folders set to "Details", "Large Icons" and even "Extra Large Icons" for a couple.
with those settings I get the best of everything, which makes it even better as it's perfectly applicable to what I need from each folder.

I like the "HOT MODS" section of the pages, that's fine, but then scrolling down to the Large Icons section for News and Media just makes me stop reading, because looking all over the page in every direction with huge pictures just makes me not interested in reading ANYTHING on the page, so I just skip it.
TEXT is what's important to me, not a page full of blocks with pictures in them, to me, the pictures are irrelevant and just obfuscate the stories and text.

If those sections of the pages had the same feature as STEAM and GOG do for your Games Library (List View, Detail View, Grid view) then everybody could set their own preferences by just clicking on the mode icon at the top of the section.

Your suggestion for a STEAM-like set of viewing options is excellent. Not being a programmer or anything like that, I don't know how feasible it would be to implement it. However, I do hope the site developers would consider it. That would go a long way toward making everybody happy, as you've already said.

As for myself, I love the "sensory overload" the new site provides. It's not a problem for me. However, I appreciate that it is for others, and that's why I think your suggested solution ought to be taken seriously. Edited by Augusta Calidia
