  1. I see many, many well done Player Homes. Dozens hundreds thousands maybe. There's standouts like 'Falskaar'. Must-haves like ' Wet and Cold'. But I have been to the Nexus once a week or more, sometimes. Looking at mods. Downloading many, seeing how they are, keeping some and letting others go. I have not seen the Skyrim equivalent of Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul yet. Did I miss it? I never modded Morrowind. I heavily modded Oblivion. OOO was the single best mod- for me even better than DLC- I had. It made the game a thing of mysterious happenstances and that was a feeling I liked in Morrowind, a lot. Have we simply not produced an equal to OOO mod for Skyrim yet? Player abodes, great...we need a shot in the arm like OOO gave Oblivion
  2. That's not the point; the Dragonborn wouldn't be able to defeat Miraak without it. So the Dragonborn can only be powerful if he came by knowledge in an original fashion? If so, the idea of Word Walls should also be an example of the Dragonborn not actually being powerful: that's not him, he's just copying, in essence. Your standpoint is that the Dragonborn needs to stand on his own two feet 100%, he cannot stand on the shoulders of those that came before. That describes an Ultimate Deity, not a Hero, wouldn't you agree? And in Skyrim, we are not playing the role of an Ultimate Deity. It's also a classic element of character development when a protagonist discovers lost knowledge, and in part, that plays directly to the concept of 'The Hero's Journey'. The Word Walls is just a mechanism to set the protagonist out in search for knowledge; either set on by the Greybeards, discovered on accident, or found on his own behalf, to become more powerful. Most likely the first and the latter, and the Dragonborn still has to go through great lengths to gain it─which is undeniably part of being a Hero. Of course not. A Hero is someone with great lines, wondrous speeches; an individual who overcomes obstacles, struggles, and learns from the mistakes of his/her predecessors to achieve goals thought impossible for mortals. Not someone who gets power, albeit plenty, handed on a silver platter to achieve a certain goal. I didn't say the Dragonborn is an Ultimate Deity, nor did I imply that. The Dragonborn is a Hero, no argument there. Though I didn't know we were discussing my standpoint on the definition of a Hero. ...so how can you stand by the premise of "the Dragonborn could not defeat Miirak" without something? That standpoint illustrates a deficiency in the terms of "power" because the Dragonborn had aid. But at the same time, without the aid of people and creatures and even Things teaching the Dragonborn Shouts...the Dragonborn cannot acheive his or her goals. I'm not going into "your" description of Hero. I am going into THE description of Hero, by the way. Only an Ultimate Deity creates from nothing. The Dragonborn cannot create from nothing, but your outlook seems to be that he should. Because his description of hero is "opinion" and your description of hero is "fact". Sure, do you really expect anyone to take your word for the one and only truth? Still don't agree with either of the hero definitions. I'd say a hero is someone who puts his life on the line for a cause or for other people and who serves as a role model. The Dragonborn isn't necessarily a Hero since you can make whatever choice you want to. You can be an a**hole to everyone in game and you can also be the archetypical paladin. Regardless on whether he's a Hero or not, that doesn't matter, it's just a title. Could the Dragonborn win a battle with a Daedra? Given the achievements of Talos and some other people in TES Lore, I'd say that not only the Dragonborn, but anyone with enough talent, luck and the right tools is capable of attaining godhood and defeating other gods, it just takes the right events to happen at the right time. Rubbish. I pointed out that a description given was that of an Ultimate Deity, not a Hero. I contrasted the two briefly based on an ability to come by original knowledge versus knowledge gained from some kind of helpful source. It is a case of me taking the standpoint that I disagree with a viewpoint given. A viewpoint that was not yours, by the way. When two people disagree, they may present their standpoints, and I don't need your permission to do it. If I chose to have a friendly debate that is my business. Your manner and words are insulting. Piss off.
  3. "Ultimate" specs will change in 3....2...1...
  4. Compatibility mode. It's never worked for me ever. OP: did you install the games in the default location? Re: won't play Oblivion so why try the others...fairly puritanical! ;)
  5. I guess the Kingston Trio were already booked. But are real ones much better? Ahem. Well. 1795. Really famous for his verse....Robert Burns: "...Is there for honest poverty That hangs his head, an' a' that The coward slave, we pass him by We dare be poor for a' that For a' that, an' a' that Our toil's obscure and a' that The rank is but the guinea's stamp The man's the gowd for a' that.." Hum. Well. OK....how's this? 16th century, Scottish: "When Johnie Scot saw this big, broad letter, It caused him for to smile, But the very first line that he did read, The tears run down for a while, But the very first line he did read, The tears run down for a while..." Yeah. um, moving on.... War! Violence! Hurt! Cool! "...They came in the night when the men were asleep This band of Argyles, through snow soft and deep Like murdering foxes amongst helpless sheep They slaughtered the house of MacDonald Oh, cruel was the snow that sweeps Glen Coe And covers the grave o' Donald Oh, cruel was the foe that raped Glen Coe And murdered the house of MacDonald..." A little bit better but hardly epic, eh? At least it has murder. How about...this one? Giving to the poor, stealing from the rich! The whole thing this time, by 'gowd'! Feast your eyes! "There chanced to be a Pedlar bold, A Pedlar bold there chanced to be; He put his pack all on his back, And so merrily trudged over the lea. By chance he met two troublesome men, Two troublesome men they chanced to be, The one of them was bold Robin Hood, And the other was little John so free. O Pedlar, Pedlar, what is in thy pack? Come speedily and tell to me. I've several suits of the gay green silks, And silken bowstrings by two or three. If you have several suits of the gay green silk, And silken bowstrings two or three Then, by my body, cries little John, One half of your pack shall belong to me. O nay, O nay, said the pedlar bold, O nay, O nay, that can never be For there's never a man from fair Nottingham, Can take one half my pack from me. Then the Pedlar he pulled off his pack, And put it a little below his knee, Saying, If you do move me one perch from this, My pack and all shall gang with thee. Then little John he drew his sword, The Pedlar by his pack did stand, They fought until they both did sweat, Till he cried, Pedlar, pray hold your hand. Then Robin Hood he was standing by, And he did laugh most heartily, Saying, I could find a man of smaller scale, Could thrash the Pedlar and also thee. Go you try, master, says little John, Go you try, master, most speedily, For by my body, says little John, I am sure this night you will know me. Then Robin Hood he drew his sword, And the pedlar by his pack did stand; They fought till the blood in streams did flow, Till he cried, Pedlar, pray hold your hand. O Pedlar, Pedlar, what is thy name? Come speedily and tell to me. Come, my name I ne'er will tell, Till both your names you have told to me. The one of us is bold Robin Hood, And the other is little John so free. Now, says the Pedlar, it lays to my good will, Whether my name I choose to tell to thee. I am Gamble Gold of the gay green woods, And I travelled far beyond the sea, For killing a man in my father's land, And from my country was forced to flee. If you are Gamble Gold of the gay green woods, And travelled far beyond the sea, You are my mother's own sister's son, What nearer cousins can we be? They sheathed their swords, with friendly words, So merrily they did agree, They went to a tavern and there they dined, And cracked bottles most merrily." OK. Well, maybe this type of thing basically just sucks....
  6. I have had odd things happen with mods, and in an effort to isolate them, when I turn off mods, the game does odd things. Try using the console to progress to the next quest stage
  7. Did you by any chance disable his AI with the console while trying to do something else within the console?
  8. Hardly. You do not entertain any view except your own, yet you portrayed yourself as wanting to discuss. You do not wish to discuss. You wish to dictate. My pointing that out is not "semantics". It is an observation based on what you have said. Like your prior "he said/she said" argument, I'm at a loss to explain what you think these things even mean. Semantics is a study or use of meanings and their form. I am not arguing that you mean something different from what you state, or that the difference between what you state and what you mean is minor or major- I am stating that you don't want to listen to anyone's standpoint but your own. Given that observable fact, I can see that coupled with your inability to test your own theory, this entire discussion is a failed premise. You can trot out any linguistic term you like and call it anything you want to. The fact remains that you have your conclusion and you just wish to recite it to an audience.
  9. Frankly, better attention to narrative detail is sorely needed. Oblivion's was better. In Skyrim I can produce dialogue responses that contradict the current state of my game. We also need better continuity. In many points of Skyrim -un-modded- I had a mental image of that weird-hairdo guy saying "Aliens" as if that could explain how things just happened with the story.
  10. In science, a scientist forms a theory and then he works to prove how it may work and be true. Then he works just as hard to disprove that theory. The only hard work concerning proof of the "Nordicist" theory I can see is a rejection of any viewpoint that does not agree with that theory. In low-brow layman's terms we therefore have a cloud of fart gas.
  11. Bruma gets the Lake Effect from Rumare. Everyone knows that.

  13. If you wish to avoid childishness, then get my statements right and do not remove them from their context. I did not say that "Nordic aspects of the game mythos are more interesting and better food for cultivating the game" and present it as a fact. You have deliberately taken me out of context. My full post was a question that asked : "Could it be that the developers find the Nordic aspects of the game mythos are more interesting and better food for cultivating the game?" See how the omission of the full statement changes what I posted? So in answer to your demand that I provide a valid reason for my statement, my reply is that there is nothing for me to explain, because you made my words into something they were not. I already told you once not to ask me to stand proxy for the developers. Why they might come to the conclusion I suggested may be for a galaxy of reasons. You want a fight, you want to find wrong-doing on a basic level regarding a fantasy, made up game, and you want vindication for it. Some personal thorn is in your side. Work it out, I'm not your therapist, but don't you mis-quote me and then demand I answer for your partial quote, as if I have been un-masked in my duplicity. Your antics here represent the worst of the casual internet.

  15. I played the original D&D in the '70s, then AD&D, blah blah blah, pick your game up through wargaming with WH40K miniatures and buildings etc. that I scratch built. I always wondered about the necessities and reasons for and of "class". With paper rules, in play defined by turns, this was a fairly brilliant idea- a set of rules within rules that could be used to define a player's character and also give the player a way to creatively approach playing the game. Without "classes" in those games, much of the definition was lost. Classes also enhanced team-play, allowing players to compliment each other. With the advent of good PC 'role playing' action games, I found 'classes' to be a limiting factor, not a liberating one. I'm not bound by turns. It's always my turn. I might chose to have 'team play' re: followers, or I might not. But I do not need that complimentary aspect to make my 'party' a complete entity. I can do it all. Why do I need a class? Why would I, if I was truly 'role playing' even desire to limit myself with a class? Achilles was not bound by 'class'. Neither was Hercules or Merlin. Conan, Buck Rogers, Indiana Jones....no 'class' defined or limited them. Their actions and choices defined them and limited them. Without a 'class' I can actually play a role. But what we need now is a game system sophisticated enough to allow us to truly have no need for 'class'. That players in Skyrim still search for a good 'class' shows me that the game system is not quite caught up to the idea of not needing a 'class'.
  16. Thereby implying Nordicism. Why would you make a game with different cultures in it, then favor some over the other? Might as well make the whole game about vikings in that case. But if there's comparisons between cultures being made in game, and they're showing Nordic aspects as "better" than others, then there's a problem there. So you actually are playing with the idea of viewing this game as an analogue for a cultural snub in the real world. You ask "why would you make a game" along your criteria. Well, firstly, I did not make it, obviously. Do not ask me to stand proxy. Secondly, it's clear you have a personal issue at stake here re: cultures not being given equal time. You brought up conspiracy theorism, and I'm about to make you a nice silver hat.
  17. :) is knowledge gained by another's tutelage still not knowledge?
  18. ...and each development team has been different, correct? Look at Morrowind. I always found it interesting that 'racist' wasn't tossed around so much when that game was new, even though there were very obvious racist tendencies re: slaves. Have some Nords tell gray-skins they aren't welcome, and look out...But Nords were basically galoots that took their clothes off becasue it was too hot, in Morrowind. They were bumpkins. edit- I thought a strategist planned and anticipated for the enemy's actions while a tactician maneuvered in combat
  19. Dragonborn blah blah. He can't open a new jar of pickles half the time, claiming his "hands are too slippery". Big hero.
  20. Could it be that the developers find the Nordic aspects of the game mythos more interesting and better food for cultivating the game? It could precious, it could.
  21. It's nice to have all the loons locked up in one barrel. Makes 'em easier to avoid.
  22. Oh there are. The great thing about the mods though is that there's almost always a good description for them
  23. Not sure I understand. Many mods that are more than visual enhancements do not impact game play. For example, there are mods that overhaul Guard dialogue, and add interesting NPCs, or make townsfolk take shelter during a dragon attack. There are however some mods that can negatively impact gameplay. For example I use a city expansion mod that does screw up a quest in certain situations. I knew about this beforehand, and I 'disabled' the problematic object via the console. Things like that, you'd definitely like to avoid at least for now! I'd recommend Armored Skeletons, Weapon variant expansion, Jaysus Swords, Guard dialogue overhaul, and Hothtrooper44's Armor compilation; these things should not impact gameplay Also I like Moon Deathstar Build Secunda, it makes one of the moons look like the unfinished Deathstar, that's definitely a harmless one
  24. It actually sounds as if you play him the way you describe, you'll have what you're looking for.
