  1. I have tried to get to the late game with both the NCR and the House faction. I always wind up going back to the independent ending. I just can't get beyond individual liberty as the foundation of any real democracy. The legion is too hard for me to stomach. It just cuts to much against the grain of my experience. The courier will have his work cut out after the ending, but better me than someone else controlling all those robots. Is that hubris? Maybe so. I'm thinking about pulling some mods together to run a post hoover dam world. A lot of mods exist that would lend themselves to that idea. I don't know if I will do it, but that is my intention. Probably not do the DLC's until after the final fight. I have done them before, already. What do y'all think?
  2. I'm only going to comment about a continuation of FONV (NV2). I would prefer that the ending with an independent New Vegas be the basis of the follow on. Advance 40-50 years. Your (grand)daughter/son has to address certain problems caused by the open wasteland you created. As far as gameplay is concerned, I feel the present system is a sufficing solution. I would like a 64 bit op system option out of the box. I also would love to see Bethsoft use the best NPC AI they can find or make. What they call an AI is actually a Real Time Transaction Processing System (RTPS). Hire a RTPS professional to design and troubleshoot. It's 2013. I have a computer and monitor that couldn't be purchased at any price 5 years ago. I don't see why I should be punished for making buying choices different than others. I am not anti-console or anti-older tech. Different executables for different grades of hardware are well within modern compiler capabilities. Heck, automated hardware detection is mainstream technology that fell off the leading edge twenty years ago. This may just be me, but fix the stinking creation kit you "give" me. Last, pay no attention to the reviewers at the gaming mags. They are paid to say darker, darker/ edgier, edgier by people who don't care what you or I think. They are trying to sell magazines and advertising. Rate their comments based on how much they paid you, Bethsoft, not how much their advertisers pay them. Even though that was rambling and incoherent, I feel better for some reason.
  3. There is plenty of available housing in early, vanilla New Vegas. They have no sorters and such, but early in the game it's not an issue. If you are just looking fo a bed, look in the broken trailors. Safe storage becomes an issue over time, but there are places in Goodsprings where it is available. I won't spoiler it, but if you can't find it you can google it. Don't mean to be a realism Nazi, but your first expierence can only be new once.
  4. You can also try New Vegas Share and Recruit (http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42353). It requires New Vegas Script Extender. IMO it strikes a good balance between adding followers who are available and not adding followers you should leave in place. I don't run the included NPC's, but you can.
  5. I must confess to being one of the people with a poor endorsement record. I didn't join the Nexus until Skyrim arrived and it took me a long time to decide to start using NMM. Then, I still can't believe I had so much trouble figuring out the endorsement system. Just as an aside, don't forget to vote for your favorite mod, each month, for whatever game you are playing. I'll try to do better with endorsement from now on. Really, I will.
  6. Boring??? It's not boring to me. What it is, is refreshing and humbling. I'm one of those obnoxious guys that, if I have a problem, I just sit back and think for a minute. The first question I ask myself is "Was this something I did?" It usually is and I take care of it. Frankly, IMO, this site runs better than the site whose name shall not be spoken aloud. I know you get this a lot, but I really, really appreciate the way this site is run. Too many times, in the modern world, people don't understand or appreciate standards, accountability, and especially, a focus on what matters to others. I do. I can't send you much, but if I have something you need, just ask. The answer may be no, but it won't be because I wouldn't if I had it.
  7. My issue is the 4GB limit in Win 32. It's unneccassary. All they would have to do is recompile and use a detecter.
  8. SUPRISE!!! I have a complaint about Skyrim. Why isn't there a seperate exeutable for 64 bit Windows? It's not as if it would be hard to do. I don't see any reason that I should be limited by other people's hardware. I'm just saying that there should be one executable for Win 32 and another for Win 64. Am I crazy?
  9. I'm one of those obnoxious people who can see and agree with both sides of the argument. My feelings about the game concern the effects of the standing stones. I feel that they should have more effects on gameplay, right from the start. If you choose the Warrior, for instance, I don't think you should be able to cast any spells except a few cantrips, like healing, healing hands, candlelight, etc. to name a few. The spell "transmutation" should be severely limited. It should cost more magic than you have to make gold ore from silver. You should hardly be able to sneak, at all in heavy armor. You should Have to work very hard to learn any magic or any sneaking. Thieves shouldn't be able to wear heavy armor. You shouldn't be able to cast magic, except cantrips, in heavy armor. That's the way I play. That is because I agree that the game requires self discipline to play a character without doing out of character things. I won't join the thieves guild. I won't join the dark brotherhood. I won't join the mages college. I find the companions shallow, but I usually join. I have never played the stormcloak side because I just can't get past the "nasty little facts" about Ulfric Stormcloak and the rampant racism in the Stormcloak faction. Not saying the Imperials are a lot better, but that's just me. After the civil war, I should be able to go to the Stormcloack camps and tell everyone there to just go home, in defiance of my instructions from General Tullius. As for the interactions with the NPC's, expect nothing, because that''s what you're going to get. The system of NPC interaction has fallen down, and it can't get up, much like Oblivion and Morrowind. I don't find Fallout much better or different. I still play Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, and Fallout NV. I still enjoy them all, when they're not breaking, but they are not the end all and be all of RPG's. I don't expect them to be.
  10. Just a dumb question. Why are you limiting the number of dragonborn in the game?
  11. There is a unique player mod. I think it is under gameplay changes in categories.
  12. Yes there is a smiling mod called EDialog by Cotyounoyume. I think I spelled his name right. It requires Skyrim Script Extender. You can find it by searching the Nexus.
  13. Thanks for the answer. I'll look and see.
  14. I want to have my favorite NPC,s grin when they see me. Don't know how hard it would be. Just that it's beyond my capabilities right now.
  15. In the dark ages of computing, we always had to figure out what system on a computer was binding a particular program when we ran into problems. A program can be compute bound, graphics bound and probably in your case, memory bound. Because Skyrim is a 32 bit program, there is a 4GB limit to the usable memory space no matter hou much memory you have installed. Video memory can also bind Skyrim. I haven't looked at your list of mods, but try removing any memory hogs, first. If you look at the top of the troubleshooting section of the Skyrim Nexus, the topic pinned to the top is an excellent place to start in figuring out what's going on. I think it's called Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires. Read through that and see if it applies to your situation. Good Luck.
  16. I don't know that I think the animations would be very much of a problem other than there being a lot of them. Just rerecord each as a mirror of the old ones. The infrascruture for left habded strikes already exist in the dual wielding prtion of the code. The problem I see is connecting right handeed blocks to the physics engine. The problem is finding each instance of a block, in game, amd having a unique instance of blocking stats just for the player character. Having said all that, I don't have any experience with Havoc and the underpinnings for right hand blocking may be sitting there, waiting for a smart modder to exploit. Worth doing? Almost certainly. The controllers can be easily remapped. I would keep the left mouse button for hittting and the right mouse for blocking. The same with the xbox controller for PC. No big deal.
  17. Make a new user account on your computer. Make sure it has admin priviledges. Try to run the game from the new account and let me know the result. Make sure you log off all other users before loading the game. It is not enough to just log on the new account. It needs to be the only account logged on for a clean test.
  18. Yes, but watch the left, front hoof. It seems to pick up rocks and the farrior (me) can't seem to solve the problem.
  19. I'll ignore the sarcasm in the first phrase and concentrate on scanning it posting to the internet. That is a copyright violation. The fact that the copyright holders are not out looking to squash their fans doesn't change the facts. Unfornately, for your argument, it is almost always the letter of teh law that is enforced. If the law is poorly written, it may create criminals where no intent to flaunt a law exists. Copyright holders who are the original creators of the content, by and large, have enought common sense to to target people who try to profit by their infringement, but that doesn't change the law. I agreee that patent trolls and big entities that produce nothing but lawsuits are a problem. Your assertion that copyright extentions are rediculous leave me scratching my head. I will leave it alone, however, as I do agree that it is beyond the scope of the original post. The abiity to parody or produce a derivitive work of an existing copyrighted material is severely limited. Those limitations exist because they do not fall under fair use execptions. I'll give you the last word, as I'm going to get off my high horse, now.
  20. I have to say, I have wondered the same thing. Hand carts everywhere, and I can't use them.
  21. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. Any form of publishing copyrighted material for distribution to third parties is an infringement. I understand your feeling that it can be viewed as a tribute. Unfortunately, your scenario does not fall under the fair usage guidlines for copyrighted material and fair usage is the only exception to copyright. If a person is making their living from any form of intellectual property, they view most forms of copying as stealing. The fact that a person did not simply paste the original art onto some other mesh is no defense. Drawing the same material yourself is still copying. Copying material without the permission of the original author is illegal. I don't mean to come off as a know-it-all, although I realize my post sounds exterely pedantic. My own experiences with copyright violators is that they feel copyright is good unless it's their ox being gored. (Many seem to think that copyright is for everyone but them.) Copyright is the only protection that prevents the big intellectual property companies from stealing the smaller producers property with impunity.
  22. Right now, I am running "Amazing Follower Tweaks", by Dheuster. I chose it because of the horse mods. It's funny because I haven't bought a horse since I installed it. In my first playthroughs, I tried to play with Lydia, mostly as a talking mule. I, eventually got tired of her, and switched to Uthgerd the Unbroken for several games. Uthgerd's AI was too buggy, so I went back to Lydia. I tried Jordis because her voice was so pleasant. Eventually, I always wind up, either leaving them at home or leaving them ouside dungeons. As for why play with a companion, I'm not sure. I just do. The only appearnace mods I am currently using for NPC's is "Less Whorry Housecarls", Xenius Character Enhancement," and "Gender Race Heights II." I do have some male appearanace mods, because I play a male character. The only one I have active is "Bufffer Males." I don't feel that the gameplay problems with companions is unworkable, as you can use self-discipline and play style to overcome them. It is far too easy to overpower a companion with mods. I had to learn this the hard way, of course. In particular, the bow problem "fixes" are big offenders. I have used and discarded virtually all the popular character appearance mods. IMO follower gameplay mods are a bigger bag of worms than the problems they are supposed to fix. I always wind up discarding them. As I find myself disabling more and more of the features in "Amazing Follower Tweaks," I will probably just uninstall it eventually. Back to the original question, maybe the followers fill some need in me that I am unaware of having. Don't know what that says about me, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I do know that I would prefer a lot more depth and breadth to the follwers and my characters interacions with them. I just don't seem to want it bad enough to do anything about it. I hope that helps you and have fun playing.
  23. I also was pleased with Newegg. There were several specials similar to mine for less money. I chose the one I bought because it was so close to what I was trying to shop for without the special. This weekend I ordered an ASUS 27" monitor with 2560 x 1440 for $700. Now I have to shop for new computer furniture, but it is a good problem to have, IMHO. (I'm not really humble, but it is the polite thing to say.) I bought the higher level machine because i just wanted it. LOL.
