  1. I think we conflate the ability to breath with the need to breath, but more importantly we are encountering gameplay vs lore arguments. In the game, all NPC can speak. All NPCs, unless enchanted in some way, can drown. This would facilitate both the ability to breath and the need to breath. Yet in the lore it makes sense that vampires do not need to breath given that they sleep in covered coffins or are otherwise entombed for centuries.
  2. I seem to have quite a lot of trouble perfecting my lighting and have never been good at modding Skyrim. I am trying to go for an nighttime aesthetic that yields warm and bright fires, but near pitch-black nights that would mandate either using a torch to see or stopping for the night and waiting the rise of the sun. For years I felt that ELFX - Hardcore did this for me, but I recently was informed that it was incompatible with most ENBs and was the source of a few problems I was experiencing. I have tried many ENBs looking to recapture the darkness of the night and the comfort of warm fires to light the camp, but while they are all beautiful, I have not quite found one that does this. Nights tend to be far too bright for me. I have tried to tweak the ENB settings, but do not seem to know what I am doing. Turning Brightness Night down certainly made my nights dark, but it also dimmed every source of light. To counter this, I increased [Environment] DirectLightingIntensity, but oddly it had no impact on the visuals - even if I turned it up to something incredibly high. After a few questions, someone recommended that I change the same setting under weathers - which did indeed work, but doing so did not just adjust the fires, but the whole scene. I am at the end of my sanity - clearly I do not know what I am doing when it comes to lighting. Would anyone happen to know what might be causing my issues with [Environment] DirectLightingIntensity not altering the lights, or could explain what I might be doing wrong, or even recommend an ENB that does what I am trying to go for? I have also been told that it may be related to the weather mod I am using, NLVA + Vivid Weathers. I have not explored that possibility yet. Sorry for the mess of a post.
  3. For over a week I have been trying to solve a problem that I have been experiencing with parallaxing: https://ibb.co/tYSvGsX https://ibb.co/J7Cgf1v Would anyone happen to know what I have done to cause this? This is my enblocal.ini: Skyrim.ini: SkyrimPrefs.ini:
  4. Under enblocal.ini: ENGINE] ForceVSync=true VSyncSkipNumFrames=0 [LIMITER] EnableFPSLimit=true FPSLimit=59.0 As I understand it, this should limit my FPS to 59, yet in the game it maxes out my monitor's refresh rate at 98. Is there something I am misunderstanding?
  5. Hello everyone, I have reached the 255 plugin limit and I am a bit unsure about how to continue past this point. I hear a lot of talk about Wrye bashed patches and merged patches function; one solves incompatibility and the other just merges plugins. It seemed simple enough, but I also encountered all sorts of warnings from tutorials about using them and it unnerved me a bit. I am not finished modifying SSE, but since encountering the 255 mod limit I cannot test my game to ensure stability and any unforeseen issues when traveling to impacted areas with all of the plugins. Of course, this is quite new to me and I apologize if I'm fundamentally misunderstanding the purpose and capabilities of Wrye Bash and merged plugins. - Can I create multiple merged plugins and then create a batched patch out of them to address incompatibility? This partially ties into the following question. I am looking for two things: solving incompatibilities and reducing the number of plugins to, or below, 255. - Can I rebuild existing batched patches with additional mods? When I load Wrye Bash I am told that mods have been deactivated due to exceeding the 255 plugin limit. Can I go through the process with these plugins and then turn around and add the rest to a rebuilt patch by repeating the process? - Will merged/batched patches be recognized by dependent plugins, or do I need to merge the dependent plugins with it? Say for instance, I merge plugin A into a larger group of plugins. However, plugin B is left out of that patch. Plugin B requires plugin A to be activated, but plugin A is deactivated due to it being merged into another plugin.
  6. I have a problem. the last time I actually played Skyrim was at least five years ago. I am on a quest to recreate the experience I had from mods such as PureVision and ELFX in which the night was impassible without a torch, yet fires illuminated the surrounding area. A cave without a source of light was pitch-black and interior, such as the little nook between the staircase and the bedroom of the Drunken Huntsman in Whiterun, was impossible to see. The obvious answer would be to reinstall ELFX - the hazardous and darkest. I tried this, of course, and many times. Unfortunately, the degree of darkness isn't near as close as it used to be, or rather perhaps, I'm no longer able to replicate it. I can still see quite easily in interiors and exteriors feel illuminated. I've tried RLO, CoT, Vivid, and while all are excellent mods, none have been quite what I'm searching for. RLO was even brighter while CoT and Vivid use the "sunglasses" effect. I am not using any mods other than lighting and my monitor is the PG27UQ, which is calibrated and handles blacks perfectly. I sorted the few plugins that these mod(s) generate via LOOT and have read the descriptions multiple times to ensure the correct installation. I also have a clean uninstall and reinstall of all files. I couldn't fathom messing something up with so little that I could screw up to lead to this issue, so I'm left thinking that perhaps they have changed since 2013 - 2015 or there is something I have not set within a .ini. Unless someone might be able to shine light (haha) on my dilemma, would anyone happen to know light-changing mods that may offer the experience I'm seeking? tl;dr: Can anyone recommend ENBs, lighting, weather mods that make nights as dark as possible while keeping light sources bright and illuminating?
  7. Hey guys, I'm having a bit of remembering issue. It has been years since I played vanilla oldrim, but do not recall this odd shading/criss-cross lines on the textures in the screenshots. I have completely reinstalled the game - including cleaning registries, deleting profiles, save files, deleting the installation folder, deleting the user/Skyrim folders, and rebooting. In every way as I know how, the game is vanilla and have done so three times. These lines only seem to appear in this area across from the Windhelm docks and only in the morning hours. Moving closer to them leads to their recession/fading as though it's a draw distance issue. Is this normal oldrim or could there be some file or setting that I have not reverted to vanilla?
  8. Ha, I've been using Mod Organizer for so many years that it took me a moment to realize I had forgotten that. I suppose this would be a better question for the MO team and how its virtual folders work.
  9. I have a question that should seem obvious, but I just wanted to confirm it. I have three storage drive tiers installed into my PC: NVMe Evo 970 Plus: Read/Write @ 3.5GB/2.5GB per second. SATA3 SSD: Read/Write @ 550MB/400MB per second. 7200 RPM HHD: Read/Write @ 100MB/80MB per second. I have my Skyrim installation on the MVMe, but I was unsure if I should install my mods to that same drive. Would it decease loading times or is it irrelevant for mods? Space is a non-issue. Each tier has 2TB or more worth of space.
  10. Hmm, thank Hmm, thank you for the suggestion. I tried it, but alas nothing changed for me. I did a clean reinstall on another drive and peculiarly I still have the same issue. I can't say I've ever encountered this before and I'm left scratching my head. I imagine that it must be unrelated to a mod or utilities if a clean Skyrim is giving me the same problem. What confuses me the most is that I had tested my mod list for stability each time I added something new and it ran just fine. I came back a few months later and now it will not even reach the menu. Edit: I'll never understand computers. After a simple reboot it was all working again.
  11. I'm a bit confused. Skyrim is failing to start (no logo or indication it even launched) and I don't know what is causing it. It doesn't appear to be a missing master, or at least LOOT is not flagging me about anything missing. The last time I launched Skyrim it functioned correctly and each time I installed a new mod I would launch the game and rush around the map to check for stability. Is there a way to find out what is causing the crash?
  12. I'm glad I saw this. I was in the process of making this same topic. I'm relieved to hear it's not on my end.
  13. I have been banging my head against a wall over this and finally decided that I did not know what I was doing. I am trying to install an ice and snow mod to change the vanilla textures away from the bright aqua look and to blend it in a bit better at a distance. The issue is throughout the screenshot, but what is contained within the red circles hopefully narrow down what I'm talking about: I have tried numerous mods, experimented with load orders, and ENBs on/off, but the best I have managed was limited success. It's clear to me that the problem is on my end given the screenshots from authors do not have these problems, but for the life of me, I do not understand what it could be. I have turned off all mods except the relevant ones, reinstalled, read comments, and have tried both Oldrim and SE. Here are a few of the results: <spoiler> </spoiler> Above Mods - Nordic Ice, Just Ice Above Mods - Nordic Snow, Just Ice, K Pure Light ENB, Enhanced Lights and FX (And a few I forgot to turn off) Above Mods - RSI - Real Ice, Skyrim HD 2k I tried several other combinations with a variety of other mods, but to much of the same effect. As you can see, some of the combinations do indeed fix some of the issues I had with Vanilla, but none of them look much like the screenshots the various authors and users have posted. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've varried the load order - both manually and with LOOT, and to the best of my knowledge, have followed any of the posted suggestions for them. Does anyone have any thoughts, suggestions, or insights?
  14. Ah, thank you, I did not know that! It seems to have fixed the problem too, thank you! ^^
  15. I don't know what I have done, but as I was installing Verdant I discovered that I no longer have any grass in my game. Since disabling the mod still leaves me with a lack of grass the only other thing I did was modify the .ini. I'm hoping that restoring the default .ini will solve the problem, but stupidly I forgot to back it up and need a copy.
  16. Every ENB I've looked at is beautiful, but I have always felt that they are far too bright during the night. CoT had a great amount of customization as to how dark it can be made, but it came at the cost of dimming every light source and thus retarded the usefulness of fires and torches. A few others had quite dark and atmospheric nights, but dim stars in the skybox. Does anyone know of any ENBs that create darker nights and preferably, a pretty nighttime sky? I know of PureVision, which is what I had been a fan of for years, but it was sadly incompatible with some of the other mods I used and I don't see it listed for the Special Edition (If I'm wrong please correctly, I loved that ENB to death).
  17. It has been quite a while since I last played Skyrim and I have never played the special edition. I was waiting for the script extender as modders have made me addicted to the marvels that they create, but now I have browed some of my favorites only to discover that about half of them are not in the special edition's inventory. I've also run across a number of conflicting posts claiming that they can work just fine, that unlisted mods just need a few tweaks, and that they will not work at all. It has greatly confused me about what is possible. Could anyone share some thoughts on mods such as UFO, Immersive Weapons, Skyrim Redone, and others that are on Oldrim, but not on the special edition nexus?
  18. I do not have a 1080TI, but I do have a 980TI and can tell you that I sat at around 25 - 45FPS with a heavy mod selection and just 1080p. If no mods are involved, then I can't see anything nearly as powerful being needed, but mods change it all.
  19. The last race to ask questions disappeared. That isn't good PR for getting supporting for innovation.
  20. Perhaps it's not canon, but I always liked to believe that he seduced the attackers with his devilish charm and big curved sword - the dog. Of course, after Nazir was finished extinguishing the fires, he fished you out with his big strong arms....and shared some of his sweet roll payment with you. That is, at least in my mind, what happened and why he did not burn.
  21. I believe there are a few reasons. 1) It's expensive. There are ten different races and two genders for each race. That is twenty voice actors and actresses that would each need to cite all of the lines the Dragonborn would have. This would quite easily double the amount of spoken dialogue in the game, and since voice-work is typically paid by the number of lines, you can hopefully see how expensive this would be. 2) People like to project themselves as the character. This becomes difficult to do when the protagonist has a voice. 3) People like to role-play a made-up character. For the same reason, it becomes almost impossible to role-play a creation when the protagonist is voiced. Voiced protagonists can work, and very often they do, but it cannot work when you give the player a blank canvas that to interpret as they wish. It must be a character who already has a back-story, like Commander Shepard or, to the ire of many I'm sure, The Lone Survivor.
  22. Don't worry, my sweet OP. We have plenty of time to search for it. Plenty of time.
  23. It's a terrible thing to say, but we should have gone to war with them in 2006. This was before they had submarines that were capable of launching ballistic missiles, ICBMs, and dozens of nuclear weapons. Now, should war ever resume, the price could be too terrible to imagine. Sanctions have not been as successful as we had hoped, China does not appear to have the influence it claimed over North Korea, and waiting could potentially lead to an even worse situation with a higher price. If we do go to war, the amount of force must be overwhelming - enough to neutralize their capacity to initiate fueling.
  24. I've lived in Ohio for most of my life. In my time, I've never seen many overweight people - certainly nothing close to what the statistics for the United States would indicate. This changed when I traveled South, San Antonio to be more specific. In this city, I was out of place in a sea of obese people and unlike Ohio, it felt as though seeing another person with a BMI of 95 - 110 was quite uncommon. When I returned to Ohio after a few months I began to think. "Why is there such a discrepancy between regions, and why has the problem been gaining momentum over the past three decades?" It was at this point that I came across WHO statement in 2015, which said that Germany had actually overtaken the United States by a small margin - and the rest of Central and Western Europe was quickly closing the gap. My first instinct was to suspect that it may be related to prosperity, but with Japan being one of the wealthiest countries in the world whilst simultaneously maintaining an ideal weight, it's difficult for me to believe this is the (only?) cause. I then suspected that it may perhaps be related to the number of fast food establishments, but once again Japan performs the role of an oddity with a high number of such locations per capita whilst having a low BMI.
  25. I saw this topic and imminently thought of this mod too. It won't switch back to daggers, (I think) but it will go through the spells you want to be cast with a single press of the button. Alternatively, you could get a keyboard with a macro key(s) and set them up to perform certain actions, but then that would cost $100+ - not quite the same as a free mod.
