  1. Hmmm. That comes to about 30m an hour, which I suppose is possible doing relentless mining. Not sure how effective these bots are. Do they warp to a new belt if needed? Do they use orca support? Maybe a few finger movements are required? Also not sure how effective market bots are. In busy hubs, esp. Jita a 0.01-ing bot could help move large numbers. Profits could be staggering. Not sure what other kinds of bots exist.
  2. I've spent most of the SP on one character. 5.3m was a LOT. I had the best time possible. Maxed out a lot of gunnery skills- including advanced weapon upgrades, rapid firing, and autocannon related skills. Also did salvaging V, and level IVs in a number of skills. On the other character I've spent about half the SP to get to fly a Golem. But the Vargur on the first character is much more fun to fly, and I have 2nd thoughts about the golem now. Will test both ships side by side first, but I can envision the golem on contracts soon :)
  3. Hmmm sounds like a good suggestion. Still have not allocated... may wait a day or two before making the final decision. Edit: Golems have gone up 200m since the patch :)
  4. I've got 5.3m SP in learning skills on each of my 2 mains. Spent a LONG time maxing them out.... could have done a lot else... Certainly a good move for new players, though I am a little pissed off as I believe that my learning speed is going to take a hit. Nevertheless, there is the juicy prospect of reallocation. Was thinking of possibly going for Marauders. In fact I bought 3 Golems and a Vargur a couple of weeks ago, as patch speculation. I thought a lot of people may go for these as well. Unfortunately the price for these has gone down pre-patch. Will probably keep a couple of these and dispose off the rest if I end up in loss. If there is a spike in the price, I may sell them all, and allocate the SP to something else. Any suggestions? I am not too keen to allocate to support skills. I've got Caldari Cruiser V and BS V for both characters, and Minmatar BS V for one and Caldari BC V for the other. Both fly freighters, and nearly everything else. There is the possibility of getting some Vs for Gunnery or Missiles... I have extremely low expectations about his patch. The last decent update CCP did was Apocrypha. Since then it has all been downhill, and I believe that the trend will continue.

  6. Don't forget the alts in NPC channels. They are new characters, with loads of experience. I tried the new tutorial with an alt. Now they do not give you a sequence of 10 missions relating to all aspects of eve (which was my new experience 2.5 years ago). After a couple of missions they recommend a number of agents that you can choose from. Not really sure if it is any easier or better, but most people think it is an improvement. I missed out on the Eve University experience. Terminator had recommended EU to me even then, but I got stuck on the 9th tutorial mission, and EU required completion of the missions before joining (even though this was not strictly implemented). I also found their channel to be very busy, and as a new player I did not receive the help I needed. I went off and made my own corp, and learned nothing :) Btw, NPC corps are not as popular with mission runners as they used to be, due to the introduction of the 11% tax. Edit: is EU still at war?
  7. You may also message me your email address for the 3 week free trial. I think there is a pretty decent in-game tutorial to get you started. The tutorial starts automatically when you go out in space. You will need to create a character first. Do not worry about the race and other options, as all characters start with the same skills, and can then train any skill they like. Just go with the look you like. When I started playing eve I did not know that skill training had to be manually started, and did not train any skills for the first 10 days.   8. These 16 are the ones I am training. There are more :) I was seriously happy with one account when my brother left me his account to manage. I was paying via PLEX and suddenly paying for 2 accounts was a financial blow. It took me a couple of months to train skills on the new account to make it a relatively passive income earner. By this time I had got used to switching between 2 windows, and enjoyed playing two characters at the same time. Role playing was difficult initially. Identity crises. Characters all mixed up. But the brain eventually coordinates the switching. As I intend to play eve for a while. I thought I might as well open a few more accounts now, rather than later. Make them self sufficient, and then train other characters on the accounts for specific roles. May sell the characters eventually. I also activated a couple of trials I had started for fun a couple of years ago. Characters with older date of births may sell better, thus I have created many :) In fact the way plex is currently heading, I may not persist with these accounts for long. Reactivate when sanity prevails.
  9. My account management phase is set to get out of control. Am losing track of accounts and characters. The master plan involves opening 2 accounts a month. Not good for my sanity. Hopefully just a phase.   10. My time with The Watchmen of Corvus came to a sad end. I was the first person to join the corp, and helped Belrun Battlestar get it going. Soon as we had about 40 members, it appeared that Bel no longer wanted me. Took me a few days to realize this. I left as soon as I understood the reason for his strange behaviour. This happened a month ago. I did not feel like talking about it. I felt used. Used, and discarded. I generally have low expectations from people, and am rarely disappointed or perturbed by their behaviour or actions. Still, I had known Bel for a year and half. We had run countless missions together when we were Directors in Journey's End. I had tried to provide moral support when he was going through a rough patch with a death in his family and loss of job. I gave him advice on his love life. I thought of him as a friend. Live and learn, as they say. I took this opportunity to make the corp I had been thinking about: Games Inc. I made the corp despite some tests I had conducted which indicated that my plans for Games Inc. were unrealistic. But I was not in the mood to join a new corp. Going to avoid social interaction for a while. In the meantime my training for a Carrier is nearly complete. Not sure why I need a Carrier. I just noticed that I needed 20 days training to fly one- and here I am: a Carrier pilot :)
  11. When I started eve I noticed the in-game notepad and started taking some notes. I mentioned this in a thread here at nexus, and Dark0ne made this eve forum and I started posting the log here. Amazing that 2.5 years have passed! Also amazing that I still enjoy Eve as much as I did at the start. Though the first few weeks were special. Am currently experimenting with account management. Got 5 accounts, and training multiple characters for different things. Maybe in a few years I'll off sell some of the characters... Glad you enjoyed the account :) Best of luck with Eve.   14. So how do we feel about the new character creator? Are you going to miss your old avatar? I am pretty sure it would be difficult to get the new character to resemble your old avatar. E.g. one of my alts I'm certainly going to miss my old avatars. The characters may not feel the same.
  15. http://i55.tinypic.com/2vnnfhz.jpg Our fleet, attempting an L5, was massacred earlier today by a large and formidable force, the likes of which I had not experienced before :) Our losses: 2 ravens, a scorp, a gila, a drake, 2 pods and a very expensive faction fitted tengu. Amazing experience.

  17. I'd love to see the fit :) Maybe I can join you at some stage. My 2nd tengu was basically T2 fit till last week, when in a momentary lapse of reason I spent about 1.5 b on factional/deadspace stuff for it, and there is room for more :)
  18. Yes there are forum trolls, but the vast majority of complaints are from loyal fans of Eve who have stuck with the game through thick and thin. On this note, recently CCP advertised for a public relations position, and Term I have nominated your name for this, and referred to your post above as evidence of your abilities :) Dealing with lag at Jita is easier than other places, I think. They know the numbers expected and allocate resources accordingly, like they allegedly do for fleet fights if you inform them in advance. I understand the technical difficulties (large, complex, coded over time) in improving lag, but hey!! Did they not code it themselves? Is it not the right of end-users to expect that the code be relatively bug free when released? Is it not our right to expect the inevitable bugs to be ironed out in a reasonable amount of time? Through the CSM, CCP have showed desire for feedback. The most interesting comment on the CSM minutes was by a CCP dev saying that the minutes did not reflect much of the discussion that took place, and that there were communication issues between CCP and CSM :) When I read that blog about CCP resource allocation, I had no idea it would be source of such great amusement. And may I say it again: I love(d) Apocrypha. W-space, T3 and small/medium rigs made my life much better. Since then it has gone downhill. Edit: 2 smilies deleted
  19. Welcome to Eve! I had some great times mining when I started. I also could not think of any other way to start off. I wanted to make a corp and needed 1 million ISK. I calculated that it would take me >100 mining trips in my frigate to make the money :) I love the graphics as well, and continue to discover new effects (mainly the newer modules I try) after 2 years of playing. I also keep discovering new locations and structures. Amazing game. Vindekarr I got tired of my corp a few months ago, and since then I have been wandering from one to another myself. I recently joined a friend's newly rejuvenated (mission running) corp, The Watchmen of Corvus, and atm I am setting up some corp games. I always wanted to implement capture-the-contract and tractor-can , and this is the time to do it. We'll also be running races and have other yearly events e.g. treasure hunt. Another mission related aim is to run monthly level 5s for fun and LPs. We operate out of Umokka (and Gekatami). Look us up when you are next looking for a corp :) Capture the Contract: 2 teams with home bases in stations adjacent systems. Each has to infiltrate enemy base, accept a contract, and transport goods to home base to complete the contract. First to do so wins. Frigates only. Volume of contract necessitates multiple trips. Killing is allowed (corp only game). Tractor-can: 100km playfield with goal posts. Teams score goals by tractoring a can. Frigates only. Killing not allowed, but everything else is e.g. ECM, Web, Damp.
  20. I have spent the last few months reinvesting in the market and increasing my orders to 900. This was prompted by the ship losses I had trying level 5 missions. I ended up with about 2 billion invested, and at one stage ran short of funds necessitating encashment of datacores. Have got my investment up to 14 billion, which is more reassuring. Level 5s, by the way, were nerfed in Tyrannis, and thus my 3 months of preparation, training and investment went to waste. In fact I was left aimless, as I wanted to spend a while doing L5s, and every ship loss I had was invaluable experience. I am in fact left with a 1.5 billion T2 rigged passive Tengu which I do not want to sell, but have no use for. My Alliance, in the meantime, was trudging along. The wormhole operation was continuing on a small scale, and nothing much else. A war dec had made me take down the control tower I had left anchored in Caldari space. In fact the aggressors were masters at clearing up space for new POSs. They wardecced and ensured that the POS was unanchored, or went at it with 20 BSs and destroyed it. Nice business. As soon as one of my Alliance mates prize location POS was unanchored, the war dec was over. Thus I was at a loose end. I have a long term goal in Eve of making a games corp, and decided I would make the corp now and spend the next year refining my ideas and games rules and completing the documentation. Plan to introduce capture-the-contract and tractor-can among other games. I think these have great potential for fun. I was trying different corp names when a chat with my frined Bel convinced me to join his newely rejuvinated corp, The Watchmen of Corvus. Thus I am in a new corp, and currently buying T1 frigates and modules (half the stuff in game) that are needed for the games. Have got a corp office 3 jumps from Jita, where I plan to have the playing fields. The games are likely to fail, but at least I will be able to say that I tried.
  21. I tried Taikodom for about 15 minutes, which is not enough to judge a game, but the lag was bad, and I was not motivated to try again. It did seem to have potential, and I am tempted to try again. When I started Eve I paid for it for a year, with an aim to subsequently pay via PLEX, which worked for me, and I now have 2 accounts which cost me 600 million ISK a month.
  22. I flew a passive Ferox for a while. I presume you are into turrets thus your preference for the Ferox and the Rokh. Most battleships work better with active tanking, as you have more free low slots for damage modules. Not sure about the Rokh, as I've only used my Rokh for salvaging. The Tengu is one of the best ships in the game, I am sure you'll love it. Though it works best for PvE with missiles. You get the drone bay if you opt for the turret offensive subsystem, but the DPS output is much better with heavy missiles. In fact heavy assault missiles are the best for DPS, but their short range makes them a pain to use. An (active tanked) Tengu with heavy missiles is unbelievable fun in PvE.
  23. A large number of players also use a jet can- the one when you jettison cargo. This is at least 10 times bigger than the large secure container, but not password protected. You sneak in to closer than 2.5 km and put some of your ore in the jet can. In his hurry to put everything in his cargo, the miner will take your ore and be labelled a thief. You can now safely open fire on him :) At least this is how I think it is done. I suppose you could sneak in on them using a transport ship. De-cloak, get the ore and cloak again :) They'd never know what hit them. I now aspire to be a cloaked ore thief :)
  24. Something like this could be pretty traumatic for a noob. Would have been fun, but I did not want to be the one to cause all that mental anguish :) Maybe one could compensate them afterwards with a ship or two, or a few million. They wouldn't mind then, would they? I remember mining as a noob with 2 other noob friends and a guy can flipped us. We were very annoyed. resolved to get him, if this was the last things we did. And we bore resentment towards him for many months. Another of my noob friends wandered into low sec while mining and was promptly podded. He was devastated. We were furious and made many resolves. Took me about a year to get into the spirit of immortality :)

I suppose you mean noobs going after a container labelled "take me" or "free shield boosters" :) There is no need for this 0.0 though Infact there were a couple of more containers around: http://i47.tinypic.com/2njdd7d.jpg Baiting noobs with containers in starting systems is an exploit, you may know. Possibly even in the adjacent systems. When I first got my hands on a stealth bomber I seriously considered doing this :)
