  1. Yes I have 16, and can put that on instead of 17, I don;t really want to play SI as yet, I had thought of putting it on AFTER all the main and side quests - KoN and Deadric as well as the Thieve's Guild Quests were finished. It appears the main problem is either - as you say, 17 or the GOTY. In fact at another of my posts recently, "Error message on update" at http://thenexusforums.com/index.php?showtopic=136030, you'll see what I mean.
  2. All well and good, I have been told that the GOTY version is already patched, how do I convince OBMM of that? It states that the game needs to be patched to v1.2.0416 - indeed I downloaded that patch, but of coursse it won't load with GOTY. Not only that, but I can't get OBMM to recognise it is already patched! Can anyone please tell me how I go about this (the puzzling thing was that it was working OK, withthe GOTY patched believe it or not, until recetly whne I had a computer crash) . Regards Themisive
  3. Thanks, though I wonder why I was able to patch it before! Anyway that's a relief, and I'll be able to get on with loading the various mods and setting up OBSE and OBMM now, as well as the latest version of CS.
  4. Hi all, I'm trying to update my copy of Oblivion to v1.2.0416; but even though I've used different mirrors to download Uk version of the patch, I still get the same error message: Quite obviously, I do need to update my game, but as things stand at the moment, I don't want to start putting the mods back onto it until I can get it to patch to the latest version! I have just had a major system crash, but was able to back up most of my data prior to the crash (the patches were NOT some that I was able to back up however). This means that I have spent quite a while re-loading various programmes, and getting patches where necessary. All the patches with the exception to this one have loaded alright, so it appears there may be corrupt patches on the Bethesda site and those of the various mirrors! Can anyone help, and has anyone elso come across this problem before? My game is the oblivion GOTY, on DVD ROM, could it be that it doesn't need a patch? Just as some help and a it of an expansion on the above, I have played Oblivion before, and have quite a few save-games when it patched up OK - even though I patched the DVD Rom! Obviously I don't want to put on all the various mods and the like until I can get this problem ironed out, so if any people out there can help, please contact me to give me the answer. I am beginning to suspect that the original installation of Oblivio may well have been the fault, but I'll wait and see what you good people have to say before I do anything. _________________ Themisive Hackin' an slashin' all the way. 5. To Maigrets I think it was the high temperatures that were causing a good part of the problem. That and some temerature critical parts having heatsinks sonnected by RUBBER PADS - I ask you, how dim can some manufacters be? Normally I don't have this sort of problem, and the whole thing has been checked out, new thermal paste applied, and those pesky heatsinks have had that rubber backing removed! since the weather broke, it's got a lot cooler anyway, and last night it seemed that the problem with thise streaks seems to be going away (for now). As far as unpacking the bsa's is concerned, I ONLY ever unpack the ones I want, and as far as I know, they HAVE to be in the Oblivion\Data\Meshes directory, to be associated with the dds files. there are about 15 warnings coming up, but I know what they all are - nif files I unplacked so that I could associate dds files. That was the reason I asked, should I try to pack these files in a bsa of their own - along with some textures I have?
  6. Thanks for your welcome help. I live in the YK, and if you;ve seen the emperatures recently you'll have realised that MAY well have been part of the problem. As you may have seen, the heatwave has come to an end with a vegeance (thunderstorms, heavy rain &c). beleive irt or not my computer must have been operating at or near it's maximum, as the effects I described are very much diminidhed now it's cooler - they're still there, but I'll have a look at the graphics card and see if it needs cleaning. At the moment, I want to get a few new things for my PC (in actual fact this is going to mean re-building it almost completeley). I'm going to stick with 64 bit though I nay change that when the next windows version comes out. I'm still wondering about those nif file errors that CS is reporting, do you think that packing them to a bsa may solve the problem?
  7. Thanks As usual it's one of those simple things that you don't need very often, the result being that when you DO need it, you can't remeber how you did it last! Anyway I'll save a copy of your e-mail for future reference. Ny the way, I have approved the idea, I think it's an easy way for freinds to keep in touch. One particular person doesn't sem to be a member of the forums though he does have some dos for donload, I'll drop him an e-mail and see if I can't get him to join up - after all, it's always a good idea if you have a problem to talk about it with a friend Regards
  8. Can someone please tell me, how do I go about adding someone to my friesd's list? I do know it's possible, as I already placed one person on the list. What I really want is some helpful advice as to how to go about doing just this - this information will be placed so that it will be able to be reviewed as necessary. Partly I suppose the problem is that I am a member of quite a few forums, and to some extent each has different rules. Anyway, I would be grateful for any help offered, as it seems that one person who I am NOT naming, has helped with quite a few of my modding ideas, and he has also been the author of several special add-on mods which I have adopted.
  9. I've recently been using the CS, as I'm writing a mod, and every so ofte I get a message that "Shader 1 is leaking"; this always happens at the END of a session with CS - which incidentally I've just upgraded to v1.2..404. Whilst this seems to have cured that problem, it's still finding nif files - it seems that it's finding the ones I've just unpacked from the BSA file for use in my mod! In each case I just ignore these warnings, but it seems that ignoring them was NOT the correct thing to do. Now when iI play the game I'm getting wierd bands stretching from a rock or tree, and of the same colour - sometimes they don't seem to have ANY connection what so-ever, and just appear as eiother gold, grey or black (usually the grey and black seem to be associated with Oblivion, and are really annoying since everything is in semi-darkness anyway) The fold ones sometimes appear just AFTER I close an Oblivion Gate. However, it's not too unusual to have bands of colour oringinatind from a tree, the ground, a rock or Ayleid ruins, with the same basic colour of the tree, rock ground or Ayleid ruins. Does the programme need de-bugging or what. Whilst I CAN re-install everything, this is a long process - usually several hours (as you see I've had to do it before), but I'm at a stage in the game where the Bag of Holding I obtained is quite full, and there are a lot of items I would need to collect again before I could re-load the game, as well as making a copy of WHAT esp's i have loaded. Last time I had fot a good way into the game and had to re-load, I chose to begin again, however, at this stage it's NOT an option so I hope you are able to help. I am running Windows XP Pro x64 (64 bit) with an up-to-date graphics and sound drivers - the graphics card is an ATI Radeon PCI Express, the sound card is a Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS. The CPU is an AMD Athlon 2.2GHZ dual core chip. I do not use speakers, but use headohones, connected to the sound-card, RAM is 2Gb DDR2, the graphics RAM is 256Mb, the Motherbard is an ASUS A8r-MVP. If there's anything else you require please don't hesitate to send me a PM.
  10. Hi all, thanks for your help. I'm posting this in case anyone ever has a similar problem. Yes the archiving process DOES work now. I was using my Bethesda e-mail address, and for some reason it did not appear in my browser inbox. I have managed to get around this problem by doing what i should have done in the first place, making a dedicated address just for TESNexus! My browser allows me to do that, and at the moment I think I have somewhere in the region of 150 separate addresses! Anyway, thanks once again for all you help.
  11. In actual fact, that's what I ended up doing, as my mailboxes were getting a bit on the full side.
  12. I've been trying to download Private Messages to my PC in order to Archive them. Though I've tried over a period of 4 days, and I end up with a message saying that the archiving was successful, and I would shortly receive an e-mail with the attached messages, no such e-mail has been forthcoming. Could you please check this system.
