Is not the same on Mod why? (Valkyr Face)
Crimsomrider replied to Razor444's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
No. The game has 5 different textures for the characters. Young - Adult - Middle-Age - Elder - Old The Valkyr mod only replaces Young textures I believe. Which is I think the "SMOOTH" option in the character creation screen for forehead, cheeks, mouth and so on. -
What makes a good mod page? User opinions wanted.
Crimsomrider replied to genolune's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
My usual guidelines are : - First - it has to look nice and pleasant to the eye. If a mod page has a wall of text, people will definitely not read it and will not bother with the mod. This is best achieved by using different formatting options you have at your disposal. Use of BOLD letters, underlines, text size and color. I personally write everything in bold letters while my main colors are light-blue (for the description or stuff that you can be without) while the important informative stuff is in gold color. The extremely important stuff I write in red color while NOTES such as something you should be aware of I write in yellow. Keep in mind that some users are dumb as an oak and no matter how or what you write, they'll never read the description because they think they're the smartest people on the planet. - Second - Apart from looking nice and pleasant, it has to be informative. Divide your mod page into sections, like Description/Required Mods/Recommended Mods/FAQ/How to install.... all that stuff. A mod page which just throws everything in your face under a single paragraph is quickly ignored. I personally made images for my mod pages so that they are divided in nice sections, while keeping it very informative for the user. You can also increase the titles of your sections by using formatting. - Third - Don't over-complicate things. Don't write a novel about how the mod does this and that. Keep it short, but extremely informative because people don't like reading ever since internet came into use. - Fourth - Don't expect people to read your front page because some simply never do. - Fifth - Make use of the TABS. Don't write all updates on the front page or the post section. Write them in the CHANGELOG tab that is designed for that. As far as I write my mod page, I go with : LORE (Before I say what the mod does, I prefer to tell a story if I have one) > DESCRIPTION (what the mod does - the most important part of the mod) > REQUIRED MODS (if any) > RECOMMENDED MODS (if any) > FAQ (I write questions and answers I expect people would ask) > CREDITS (if any) > Everything else like my links to other mods and so on. You need to choose the young (smooth or something like that) textures for your face, because the other 4 are not re-textured. Type "slm 14" and choose the proper textures. -
Settlers won't travel to new settlement?
Crimsomrider replied to jakobdv's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
Have you tried fast-travelling to another location ? I noticed settlers will not move on their own as long as you're in their vicinity. Probably one of the updates did that. -
Even worse was when so many people lost their s*** because I couldn't re-color the gas tanks to their realistic colors on the Weapon Workbench for the Pre-War Workbenches mod ^^ Back then I didn't even know how to manipulate UV maps of meshes, so it was impossible for me to do it. But now that I know how, I'm still not gonna do it xD Although the reason I hate any lore-friendly discussion on my mod pages is because people nitpick the tiniest little detail. They have a HUUUUGE mod on their hands, but they rather choose to mentally rape me about something that makes 0.1% of the mod. That's why I hate lore discussions. I like discussing lore as much as the next guy, but I hate it when people rape me because 0.1% of the mod is not as they see fit. @Ruinous7 If you want to check out some mods, you're always free to check out mine by clicking on my banner. I don't make nude mods, so you won't find them on my mod pages. But if you're interested in some nice and going by my users comments "great mods", I have a quite a few which would probably interest you.

Ethreon speaks true. I can't speak for others, but I personally first and foremost make mods for myself. I don't care how many people use them, I don't care how many people want me to change something. I make them for myself and after I publish them, I slightly tweak them for the users and make some changes if the comment was inspiring. If my mod has a bug or something, I'll fix it right away. But I won't budge at all if someone disagrees with the vision of my mod. Reason I publish my mods is to get some fresh ideas on what I could do next. Not requests, but ideas. Some people think that mod authors make mods for the community. While some mod authors do indeed make mods based on requests, I am not one of them. I make mods which I'm inspired to make, whenever I want, however I want. Several users I had the displeasure of dealing with can't accept that and end up insulting me in the end, because I don't fulfill their wishes. So in the end, I just prefer to do my own thing. I don't see myself as a big mod author in any shape or form. I just play the game, make a mod for my own amusement, publish it and go back to playing the game. Simple as that. If paid mods ever come again, I honestly won't be putting a price tag. I don't even want to think about dealing with the hassle of entitled brats who think they own me because they paid for something. Not to mention paid mods would kill the modding community. -

What can I say. In the end, the only ones who are punished are the legit users who want to use the mod. The pirate already got what he wanted. He has the file, he can re-upload it whenever he wants. In any war against piracy, the user is always the one who keeps getting the short end. Always. It has been like that with games, it has been like that with movies, it has been like that with song albums. Pirates get what they want to get and you can't stop them. It's the legit user who gets punished, not the pirate. Imagine how people working on movies, songs or games which involve millions, feel whenever someone steals their hard work and even more so when someone is selling their hard work through illegitimate ways. They have millions at their disposal and they're nowhere close to beating pirates because it simply can't be done. -
I'm quite curious about this myself.

Mesh stretching in Outfit Studio?
Crimsomrider replied to SicklyAlbatross's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
Yep, it's bone weights. What you want to do is import a full body, align it with the outfit, set it as reference and right click on the outfit and copy bone weights. -
Very fun and informative read ^^ I personally love The Nexus because it has done so much for me and plenty of other people out there, therefore I never ran Adblock on this site, but recently the stupid ads that hijacked my browser were getting out of hand, so instead of doing what most people would do, I bought the Supporter service just to stop with the ads and support the site a bit. And then a few days later someone donated me the Premium Service, so I'd say I've pretty much done everything I can for the site :D Thank you Dark0ne for everything you created and the team behind you. This is a beautiful place to share creativity and I thank you for it. Cheers!

Handmade Rifle from Nuka-World, although I am more a fan of rifles like Lever-Action Rifle from Far Harbor or World War 2 rifles like Garand, Leinfield and so on.
-
I personally prefer premade outfits because they take only one slot, they guarantee no clipping and you're able to wear a ton of accessories or armors on top of them. But then again, I mostly make clothing mods so even when I don't like a certain piece of an outfit, I can always just change it myself so my opinion on this is kind of undecided.

Mods, traffic have petered out quite a bit...

I personally started modding because I got tired of waiting for someone else to do something I wanted. You should try it, it's quite fun ^^ -
Want to get into modding
Crimsomrider replied to sfrebo's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
1. You learn bit by bit and get better at it. It is not difficult at all once you know how. 2. Nope. 3. Yep. Make a texture and place it in the correct folder. 4. Bodyslide and Outfit studio - For mesh editing Nifskope - For mesh optimizing GIMP - For texture editing Material Editor - For material (BGSM/BGEM) editing BAE (Bethesda Archive Extractor) - For exporting materials/textures or meshes from the game Creation Kit and FO4Edit - To implement the mod into the game or make AWKCR/AE based mods 5. I haven't gotten into scripting because I honestly couldn't figure out anything due to lack of tutorials for Fallout 4. I did however learn a tremendous amount for everything else. The best advice I can give you is to learn from others. Download their mods and dissect them. See how they did some things and learn that way. That's how I learned 90% on how to make mods. Modding is not difficult at all and infact is extremely fun, but it doesn't come overnight. Learn bit by bit and get better. I personally didn't expect to become a modder, but one day I just got tired of asking for someone to make stuff. Now I make my own stuff and it's fun as hell. -
Meshes refuse to show up ingame
Crimsomrider replied to Crimsomrider's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
I'm actually writing a tutorial on how to do certain things, but I don't want to release it until I learn how to do this. This is honestly an annoying problem. Headpieces are pure cancer for some reason. -
Meshes refuse to show up ingame
Crimsomrider replied to Crimsomrider's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
Sorry, been away for a while to roll back to 1.22 update until F4SE comes out. About the BSConnectPoint, the mesh in the picture is one of 10000 I tried to make so they show up. Originally I don't have that in the mesh, but I just figured I'll try whatever I can at this point. About the bone weights, the mesh has only 1 bone and that is HEAD. Fully painted and when viewed in the Creation Kit, the mesh is there along with the other head mesh that I attached this mask on. The positioning is correct as well because the tiara (which I made myself) is showing, but the mask is not. I also checked above and below my character to see if the mask is floating somewhere, but nope. It is just invisible. This is not the first mesh giving me this headache, basically every mesh that originally comes as a HELMET/HAT or anything like that, simply refuses to show. The mesh will only show up if I make it take the HAIR LONG/HAIR TOP slots. But I want it to take the mouth/headwrap slot instead, but then it doesn't show. The tiara does show, but the mask does not. I also checked the material. Originally two-sided was not turned on, but even turning it on didn't make a difference. -
Meshes refuse to show up ingame
Crimsomrider replied to Crimsomrider's topic in Fallout 4's Creation Kit and Modders
Everything is fine with slots. As I said, I have no trouble making headpieces out of meshes which are outfit meshes, but when I try to make a headpiece occupy any other slot except the original one, that's when I no longer can see the mesh. I even placed this mask onto another headpiece mesh (which I personally made from an outfit and shows in the game), but the mask itself won't show up. -
I'm having this fairly annoying issue which is extremely holding back all my future progress on mods. I'm talking about meshes which simply refuse to show up ingame. The biggest troublemakers are meshes which are not a part of outfits. Meshes like headgear, weapons or static clutter, which despite being properly bone weighted and placed at the correct position, never turn visible ingame. I managed to make headpieces out of existing clothing pieces, but I never managed to make a headpiece into anything else. It refuses to show up anywhere else instead its original position. Can anyone offer some advice on what's wrong here ? I'm using Outfit Studio for everything regarding meshes. I checked the meshes ten times from line to line, being completely identical to the other mesh which does show up and I just can't get any luck in this. The mesh in particular that I'm talking about is the Synth Helmet which I edited and I want it to take headwear/mouth slot. But the damn thing never shows up. I even placed it on another mesh that does show up ingame and still nothing. I simply can't get any luck with meshes that occupy the HEAD part, no matter what I do. Same thing with weapon apparel. http://i.imgur.com/hlCeKQS.png

I'm truly shocked to see that Enhanced Vanilla Body, the 2nd most used body for Fallout 4, is just gone. I don't know what happened or why it happened so randomly, but I'm quite stunned. The author's last post was a request to close his account. I'm thinking he either got hacked or something like that, because it doesn't make sense to just request an account closure when the mod has its own category on the Nexus and it was the 2nd most used body for Fallout 4. Anyone got some detail as to why this happened? :O

If you want people to disable their adblockers...
Crimsomrider replied to Thraksor's topic in Site Support
Unfortunately some people leave their brains behind when they go onto the internet ^^ -
I personally can confirm I have absolutely 0 malware, adware or any sort of viruses on my PC, because I had this issue for months and during that time I reinstalled Windows atleast 7 times, so even on a fully freshly installed Windows, the only website that always had these pop ups was The Nexus. Regarding anti-viruses, I used like 5 of them, including CCCleaner, Malwarebytes and ADWCleaner. In the end I finally got fed up with these intrusive ads and bought the Supporter package. Rather that than turn on AdBlock. Also, just wanted to say thank you Dark0ne for everything you do on the Nexus. You certainly made gaming a lot more fun! ^^
-
I personally paid for the NO ADS package rather than turn on Adblock. Nexus has done a lot for the gaming community, so paying 1$ for a lifetime of no ads is a God sent.
-
Yes, this is one of those annoying popup ads which some users keep on getting and I reported it several times. They don't infect your PC or anything like that, but they're annoying as hell and happen here and there. I just wish I didn't have to waste so much time with virus scanning before I found out it's the Nexus.
