I dont think a lot a modders want money as a business model, but being able to buy new games, extensions (to mod them also) just by donation, is kind of cool, actually.

Fair point about the street artist comparison.

But i don't listen to 200 of them at the same time. And wouldn't it be unfair to donate 200$ to one of them, 20$ to another, and 0$ to the rest of them?

Not to mention that i have thousands of mods downloaded in my whole Skyrim career. Some of them only took the author 5 minutes to make, while others spent definitely more time than any single Bethesda developer on their game.

This is still supposed to be an entirely creative hobby, free of monetary profit and greed (at least on the user and modder end).

I have removed my mods from Steam Workshop effective immediately because of this. Please Nexus, don't follow this path. I don't want to have to remove them from here too. If people want to donate, that's great! But this game has been out for over three years with mods made from free utilities, many of which won't see a dime from this and I can't be a part of that.

I am getting on and retired. Skyrim is my escape after years of hard work and I have enough of a pension to make occasional donations to mods I really think have added value to the game.

 

Sadly though, if I were to make a decent donation to all the great modders I would not have enough left to pay for my living expenses.

 

I would rather pay a larger nexus yearly membership with perhaps a percentage of it going it into a pool for modders distributed by nexus yearly depending on number of endorsements or downloads.

 

I WILL NOT pay for a mod for two reasons. 1. I cannot afford to and 2, what if it is crap or crashes my machine as some do. When it is free then it is down to me for downloading it.

 

I have also started writing my own personal mods - how far I take it, who knows but I will make them for love of the game and not for money but if one was good and someone made a donation that would be great.

 

A big thanks to all the modders who have turned Skyrim into something much more than a game.

I would rather just donate an xx amount of money directly to the modder itself, then paying them 75% of my money, i've allready payed for the game, and all it's dlc, and merchandise lol.

I don't even understand why some people attack the mod authors, they're really the victims as valve/bethesda makes money from their work, they could simply ask for donations somewhere, I would gladly donate (if I had the money, I'm just a poor student right now and have to play skyrim with max. 15-20 fps outside of cities lol)

..anyway blame valve/bethesda and don't attack the mod authors guys, they're part of our mod community
