Tis the wonder of education to provide the means of curbing if not curing ones barbarism, even if there isn't mindless labor to occupy them. I personally think that treating the symptoms and ignoring the causes will just stagnate us. Sure, having everyone working does fine as treatment, but if you can't get rid of the urge to be barbaric in whatever way to begin with you'll just be treating the symptoms perpetually until the system just dies of old age, never actually moving forward. I'm not really a primitivist, but I think we should work towards perfecting ourselves as a species before we put so much focus on perfecting the things we make. Less we end up like this: http://netkinglive.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/3.jpg But anyway, back to the topic at hand. Perfecting ourselves???? Ooooooo...... Now THAT is a WHOLE new can of worms, with implications of selective breeding, and other such things human rights group would have an apoplectic fit over. Trouble is, until you actually start controlling the breeding of a species, you will not have control over the traits the population exhibits. That just ain't gonna happen any time in the near to mid range future. Civilizations come and go. That seems to be the norm, rather than the exception here on planet earth. Why? Humans. Take something perfectly fine, and human involvement will screw it up.

China is already investing in their military, working on ways to defeat the american projection of power in asia. What's really amusing about it all, is they are doing so with money FROM THE USA. Yep, that's right, America is providing her 'enemies' with financing for them to develop weapons to defeat us. Not that they will even need to. They already have us beat, without firing a single shot. They did it by drawing off the american economy, to bolster theirs. Worked great. Say : Thank You Richard. Israel/America are just looking for an excuse to bomb Iran. Expect it to happen, probably this year. The EU should just let Greece go into default, and be done with it. It's inevitable anyway. They can only prop them up for so long with loans they can't afford, to pay off debts they can't afford. Where's the logic in that??

We will send Robot Nixon to CHINA!!!!! Where he will be copied, and cheap knockoff Nixons will FLOOD the market!

Should inmates have the right to vote in elections?
HeyYou replied to MartinPurvis's topic in Debates
no. While you are in prison, you have NO rights. (aside from the right to warm place to sleep at night, three square meals a day, free health care, and cable TV...........) -
Okay, so, why were folks leaving such a utopian society in droves? Something I would point out though is, the experiment failed due partially to outside influences. (the government of wherever you were, whining about taxes.) So long as there is a nation-state next door, it simply won't work.
-
Looks like hair-splitting to me....... Of course, the human race has always been rather free and loose with re-defining terms to suit the whim of the moment. Once again, I would point out that ON A SMALL SCALE, sure, it worked. But, only by the tolerance of the various governments surrounding it. If one of those governments took a liking to the land/resources/whathaveyou that the community sat on though, the community wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hades of surviving. Under the current human condition..... (greed, envy, power hungry, etc.) No form of Anarchism would be workable on a large scale. Their would always be someone bigger/meaner/badder that wanted what you have, and have few qualms about taking it by force, simply because they have a 'real' government, that can support an organized military. No form of anarchy is going to be able to field the kind of army that a 'real' government can. The whole "might makes right" thing will come in to play, and the anarchists would be snuffed out in short order. And folks WOULD organize into larger groups, to take advantage of such methods as well.
-
Doesn't that imply that it was NOT, in fact, and form of anarchy then?

Holy smokes. What the heck are you smoking? The soldiers EARN those "trinkets" defending YOUR rights. To put it off so lightly is a major slap in the face to those that have sacrificed much, and, in a lot of cases, ALL, to give you the right to piss on them on an online forum. Try serving your country for a few years. Especially in a combat zone. You might change your views. I am outta here, before I get myself in trouble.

Never been in the military have you? I don't think the founding fathers had in mind liars when they were talking about free speech. It is, after all, illegal to scream FIRE in a theatre.... etc.
-
There was another instance where a man running for elected office (don't recall which one) made the same claims. He was found out, and oddly enough, didn't win the election. Thank God. He is lying. I don't see where that is covered by first amendment rights. By his actions, he is dishonoring those that have served, and been honestly awarded the various medals. Throw his ass in a military prison, and make sure the other prisoners know exactly why he is in there.

Yeah, I would tend to agree with ya there..... I just don't see us figgering that one out anytime this century..... or probably the next either. We will have to wait for some alien race to come along, and bring us up to speed... so to speak.

LE The CK and legal problems left and right
HeyYou replied to jaysus's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
That's not the way I read it...... Of course, this is just a mental exercise, until such time as we actually have some case law to go from. Personally, I see the CK EULA as more of a CYA thing for beth, than anything else. Gives them the right to copy ideas, and such, from modders, without getting themselves into legal entanglements. I seriously doubt the day will ever come when beth takes some modders work directly, and puts it in any game. -
LE The CK and legal problems left and right
HeyYou replied to jaysus's topic in Skyrim's Creation Kit and Modders
The pertinent part of the EULA: Basically, what this says is, if you use the CK to release your work, it now belongs to beth. Doesn't matter if that new mesh you made was made in blender, 3dsmax, or whathaveyou, if you use the CK to put it in the game, and then release the mod, ALL of it now belongs to beth. -
Generation ships are an intriguing idea..... but, wouldn't really serve the purpose all that well. You would end up with a population that has never seen the 'outside', never lived on a planet surface, never had to compete with other life forms for survival.... etc. By the time they got to any habitable planet, they would have lost any skills required to survive as a colony. Nah, we need some flavor of FTL drive. Be it warp drive, worm holes, whathaveyou.

I'm not aruging that. What I'm saying is that you still haven't told me at what point we should start exploring the vastness of space: do we start now, when we still have the resources to get somewhere; or do we wait until Earth's resources have been all but consumed and it's really too late to start because we have nothing to explore them with and by golly we should have done this two hundred years ago? Earth's resources are finite - they will not last forever. If you wait too long, there will be no resources to explore space with. We need to use our resources for things that seriously matter. Such as researching the things we actually need to explore the universe. Or using them for everyday life. To explore the entire universe we need multiple things. 1. We need a renewable energy source for long distance travel. Nuclear power is the best we have, but a manned craft won't be able to travel the universe powered with that. 2. We need a craft that can help us travel long distances at a lower cost then now. 3. We need enough people that can be trained for these kinds of things. 4. We need to be in a time were a space race won't cause politic issues. Not to mention a drive system that would allow us to cover the vast interstellar distances in something less than several lifetimes.....

We could always induce the sun to go nova. That would be fun. :D

My understanding is that it would speed up the process and just directly give the copyright holders to take down a site. Which is extremely dangerous. Skipping due process and giving corporations complete control over it is a terrible idea for obvious reasons. There is some company that has already managed to get that.... Ralph Lauren? Or some such. They filed a suit against counterfeiters, and managed to get it set up that instead of filing a NEW suit against folks they find subsequently, they can add them to the already existing suit, and get them shut down, with NO due process at all. Which to me, just STINKS of abuse of power. It is Chanel (I believe I discussed it before in this same thread.), the perfume/handbags/makeup company. Any website they believe is selling knockoff Chanel things they cant take over the web address and shut the thing down. No warning, no due process. Mistakes are likely to be made but I guess folks are just screwed on that one. I do not think that is right. I have no issue with Chanel protecting their brand, but just to have a carte blanc....no. That's it. Yep. A shining example of the illusion of law. They don't even have to show proof..... They shut down 286 websites at one point, their 'investigators' had visited...... 3...... and called them all 'bad'.

Social mobility is pretty much stagnant and the ones at the top now, remain at the top. It's not much different to what we have now when saying the strongest has risen and taken control of just about everything you can imagine. compassion, they ain't doing it right as is. And when you go on to mention having a dictatorship, If I am grasping this anarchism business, then I think we have strayed out of the realm of its domain. Having a dictator would mean there is a hierarchical pyramid and would be placing someone at the top, in power over everyone else. Doesn't that break the whole point of it? Yep. Trouble is, that's the way it would end up in any event. Whomever could come up with the most friends..... would be boss. Kinda like the feudal system. :D

But isn't piracy by its very definition ALREADY a criminal act? How does making it even more so (is that even possible?) going to help matters at all?

Try the nvidia fog fix mod, or the one integrated into wrye bash.

Doesn't addspell, and IsSpellTarget require a reference to act upon? Maybe running a short routine to set "Target" (ref variable) to spell target, and doing: Target.IsSpellTarget..... etc..... -
Ok Marharth. You owe me a monitor cleaning. This post caused me to spew coffee all over my monitor. (again..... no, you aren't the first to induce this behavior) THANK YOU. That one just made my day. :D In a global environment, anarchy cannot possibly work. The idea of Flexible Horizontalism would also be unworkable, as the first country that came along with an organized military would walk right in, and take over. Anarchy can't account for defense, or research. You need some manner of organization for that......
