  1. I now know of at least three NPCs that have been placed in Embershard Mine as prisoners. I wonder how many there are altogether? Lol! Download all of them at the same time. Wonder if all that crowding would cause a CTD...or a game fail. AI might not even let you enter.
  2. Fyi, if you've installed an RX5700 and are having trouble running Skyrim, the Adrenalin driver update helps a lot. It's not totally perfect, but it's a BIG improvement. Oops, spoke too soon. Downloaded second Adrenalin driver update and it's back to square one...mostly freezing and weird black screen, followed by ctd. My suggestion, stay away from the RX 5700 cards. I'm taking my new comp to the builder tomorrow and falling back on my old one. Online investigation indicates that I'm not the only person having this problem.
  3. If one wanted to be hardcore, if playing an Akaviri/Samurai type character, then as regards houses and sleeping arrangements it seems to me that a bedroll might be more acceptable than a Western style bed. There are bedroll mods that work quite well...as long as they don't become submerged in the floor bitmap. Further, if modders can create portable bedrolls why couldn't tatamis be created? It would have been interesting to see Breti's "Japan Lodge" with tatamis instead of the modified western style beds.
  4. In the American dialect of English, we use armor while many, if not most, of the folks in the larger world spell the word as armour. I wonder if the difference could complicate a search of the Nexus? GIGO principle and all that.
  5. Okay. I'm about to give up on the quest. Does anyone know how to light the Sacred Sconce in "The Fire Within" quest that's hooked into the Shindara character mod? AFAIK, I've covered the whole dungeon and haven't come up with any method that'll work. Besides, I'm pretty much fed up with the tedious, incessant, spawning and re-spawning...particularly the rats. One good aspect though...I went in at level two and now I'm up to six, plus a fair amount of loot. I'm just tired of running around trying to find keys, fire starters, etc. It's mentally exhausting. I know, it's probably something that I either already have, know, or it's right in front of me and ought to be obvious. Well, it's not...at least to me.
  6. LOOT tells me "XCE Scarface" is obsolete. Anyone got a clue as to where the latest mod is located?
  7. Women, can't live with'em, can't live without'em...unless one is playing for the other team. 'Course, then it might be the same kinda problem, just gender confused.
  8. Ah yes, the totally self-absorbed wunderkind, dear Ms. Sofia. I made the mistake of marrying her...once. The woman then embarked on a career in which she specialized in draining my Septim reserve. There is one other character mod that does that, though I can't bring up her name at the moment.
  9. When I refer to followers and their baggage I'm writing about aspects of the mod that I'm forced to accept if I want to use that character. Frex, a follower character may have the shout ability. I feel that the only character who has that ability should be mine so that makes that mod unacceptable. Then I often find various other types of followers appealing, however, on reading their description I may find that in order to use that mod I'll need to download one or more other mod requirements, thus loading more memory hungry mods that add to the clutter on my computer. That usually makes those mods unacceptable, no matter how good they look. Over time I've decided that less is more and infinitely preferable. The more mods one is forced to accept the more one finds that unforeseen conflicts arise with an increase in bugs, glitches, freezes, ctds and other unpleasant results. One final observation. Group follower mods. One big advantage of follower groups is that one can acquire several followers with one download. The drawback is that it's likely the player will be faced with an increased variety relating to gear, weapons, skills, behavior etc. ad nauseum. This often consumes game time spent in satisfying various npc requirements...even though most followers work quite well no matter what they wear or what weapon they use. Shucks, I've even had them run about the countryside totally starkers, just to watch'em bounce, quiver and bobble. Frankly, the naked human body, when bouncing and flopping, is really a hoot...at least to me. Clothes really do make the character...particularly if they're an overblown, double D doxie with a totally vacuous expression.
  10. How do I go about uploading screenshots and character pics to the Skyrim section? Adipose
  11. Thanks to both of you for the info. Btw, I've got another aphorism for you: "You can't go home again." Basically a variation on the "...river..." saying.
  12. Where can I install Skyrim/SKSE if I don't want to install it in MS Programs?
  13. My Skyrim's been doing the same thing ever since I installed Win 10 in a new comp build. I even got rid of all my mods except for FNIS and opened a vanilla game. Still crashed right after I entered Helgen keep and attempted a fast maneuver to open a chest. I've no clue as to what's wrong. Adipose
  14. For me, with my limited comp knowledge and as far as Skyrim is concerned, my final assessment is that Win 7 was preferable to Win 10. Afaic, Win 10, with Skyrim, produces far more unpredictable gameplay. This usually means totally capricious ctds. I'm forced to save every two or three minutes just in case, 'cause I never know when it's gonna go down. I've no idea whether it's a result of the RX5700 I'm running, too much running in the background...there're 28, or simply the result of Skyrim and Win 10 not playing well together. Or it could be the AMD chip. I simply don't know. Ah well, Skyrim runs very well...when it runs. So, I guess I'll soldier on and SAVE A LOT.
  15. Everything in "Program Files" is protected by the Windows User Access Control. This prevents any changes to the programs located there. This means that you cannot use any mods that change anything about the Skyrim.exe file. This would include SKSE and SkyUI, among others. It is recommended that the game be installed in the location of your choice anywhere on the harddrive other than "Program Files". You could make a special "Bethesda" folder or just install the game in "My Games". Got it. Would have been nice to've known that several years back.
  16. What are ENB Binaries, where can I find the download, why should I use them, and how much comp do I need in order to get any good out of them?
  17. Twice in the last week I've been told not to install Skyrim in Program Files. Why? If not there, where?
  18. This is not the "Ultimate Skyrim" to be found on the Nexus. The version I'm referring to is found out in Netland, apparently created by a consortium of modders who've built a new game version around Requiem, though purported to be more hardcore in it's survival orientation. My post stems from the question: "Is the experience worth the effort involved in the install?" A second question follows: "What comp features are necessary to play the game properly?"
  19. Finally manned up and dropped my resolution to "Low", cut my mods back to about 52, and now the b...y game runs. Wish I could say flawlessly, but it still stutters once in a blue moon and I'll still get the odd mauve piece of gear but it's running well enough that I'm reconciled. When it comes to Skyrim, the only really negative aspect of running on low res is that you've got to constantly be on your toes with regard to developments in the near distance. When I say "near distance" I mean REALLY near, as in ten or fifteen feet. Being ambushed by an assassin, bandit, or sabre cat is a real probability...not possibility. It's a bit more like playing WOW and constantly watching for the gank. No more standing on a hill and checking out potential threats down in the valley. The next challenge will be to see what happens when I reach level forty or so. That could be a game breaker. If I can complete the game...and I mean REALLY complete it, including all secondary quests, etc....then I may go back and try Ultimate or Requiem. Probably Ultimate if it lives up to the brag. Well, so it goes. Hey, it beats sitting in a dimly lit corner and playing solitaire. At least the gray matter is challenged on a somewhat higher level and it's a lot more fun.
  20. Has the Bandit Eye Patch from Oldrim ever been ported into SSE?
  21. Hmmm. I'd played with XP and then Win 7 for many years. Had figured out my mods and load order. All the start up bugs were eliminated. Generally ran smoothly up until about level forty at which point I'd start ctds on occasion. Never did figure out why other than to assume(we know what that does)that my tendency to be a packrat had finally overwhelmed the cpu and available ram. Anyway, when I had a new comp built I installed 10. I suppose I expected the new comp to do wonders that the old machine couldn't do and added in some extra mods, which brought the number from around 75 up to about 139...mostly immersive, like COT, several followers, all the usual memory hungry stuff. Some of those I added after a new game start...which may or may not cause problems. Anyway, I started having ALL of the old problems from early days, plus some new that I'd never seen before. The game basically wouldn't run. In retrospect I expected the more capable comp to exceed the capabilities of my old one...which it does in the case of color, combat speed, etc. It does seem to be more sensitive to in game mod changes, though I've no real way of knowing if that's due to 10 or the new system...which is an AMD build. My original post may well have been a huge vent stemming from disappointment. Btw, when using the old comp I'd often installed 250 mods and it would run, though there were quite a few interesting glitches during play...door opening stalls, mauve interiors and gear, combat ctds and freezes, etc. Imagine leading twenty followers down the road and across country. That was back in XP days. Maybe even 98 though that's too far back for me to remember if I had Skyrim then. Skyrim is 32 based and Win 10 is 64, which may or may not be a source of trouble...I don't really know since I'm not a comp head. I do know that Bethesda came out with a Win 10 patch of sorts for vanilla Skyrim, so there must have been some trouble at the start. To boil it all down, I did a complete uninstall of skyrim and then downloaded anew from Steam. I'd also cut the mods back to about 75. The vanilla opener still won't complete it's run, freezing up when the player is given control of his character at the time of the dragon attack. The only way I can open the game is to use the Alternate start mod. I've run it up to level 9 without problems. We'll see if that continues. So, if you want a technical analysis I'm not your guy. I'm a consumer, not a creator. All I know is, 7 mostly worked and 10 did not. It seems to now...excepting the vanilla opener. Wait and see what happens as the game advances and becomes more complicated. I plan on creating an expanded Lakeview and that may be interesting. Btw, I'm using Vortex. Whether that has anything to do with any of my problems, I don't know. Afaic, it's better than NMM ever was. I also use LOOT and FNIS. I considered running nothing but vanilla Skyrim, however, that's now become terminally boring so I scratched that option. If I can't play the game the way I want I'll give it up and go back to Wild Hunt...which I've not yet played to the end. Following that, I'll go back to the Dragon Age series. I may start that at the beginning and play through all the iterations...if they'll work on 10. Currently, I'm also getting mauve interior in Jorvaskr. That's not new. Jorvaskr's always a bit of a problem, though it wasn't during my 7 days...unless I went one mod too many. After entering Jorvaskr, if it's mauve, I'll drop out of the game and go back in, which fixes the problem temporarily. There's a mod to fix several of the Whiterun bugs, but I've forgotten the name of it. Haven't needed it.
  22. Yep. First reinstall on the new comp with Win 10. Early on I'd put on several different immersive type mods and the game just went nuts. I had black screen lockup, ctd in many different situations, mauve objects, stuttering in slide show, you name it, if the game could mess up it would do it. I doubt that I'll ever figure out everything that went wrong. On my old windows 7 I'd pretty well ironed out all the kinks, but it didn't run fast enough to make me happy and would still do ctd in fast moving, crowded combat situations. Knock on wood, it seems to have settled down but I"m downloading a complete Witcher3 just to have an alternative in case it starts to mess up again. The test will come at about level forty at which time the old Win 7 install would begin to develop many different problems and start ctds.
  23. To respond to all the folks who disagreed with my negatives, you MAY be correct. I uninstalled Skyrim and then downloaded and installed anew. I'm currently up to level eight with four mid to late game followers(I'm making it easy on myself.), who're throwing a lot of magic all over the place. Game is performing flawlessly...so far. I also got rid of most of the complex mods that I'd installed earlier. I'm still running around a hundred...mostly basic immersive like Frostfall, RND, etc. One or more of the more invasive mods must've killed off some basic game files that had a seriously negative effect on the whole system. One thing I should mention though, is that the current setup could not complete the vanilla opening video. In the part where I was staring up at the dragon from the block, right after he arrived, the game would lock up in the familiar bobbing up and down effect and would no longer let me control my character. It did that three times with two different character creations. It was only after I went to the Alternate opening that the game would play through the opener. The vanilla opening has always been a bit buggy, at least back in the early days of play with XP. Hadn't had a problem with it in several years...until I installed 10.
