  1. I was told to post here for convenience, but I may be able to help you out with shaders as I learned a bit about them while working on this: Dragon Auras Also, I may be able to help with textures, and there are more examples of my textures if you look at my NV nexus, FO3 nexus, and TES nexus profiles. Swing me a PM.
  2. lol, Hurtling at high speed down a snowy hill on something with no reliable brakes is never safe lol.
  3. :/ What I heard was nothing like War of the Worlds lol. but yes, I have noticed that. Sadly, none of my neighbors recorded it either. >.<
  4. When I heard it it was rather clear, and I live in Oregon, so definitely didn't see an Aurora lol.
  5. I'm not saying it's some ultra strange thing like aliens/ghosts/flying chicken monsters/something else. In fact, here is a news clip about it that gives a reasonable explanation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiTE43-Izi0
  6. I don't think it's any sort of "end times" thing at all, but I do think it is strange. I have heard it here once, but it was near the beginning of these events, so I didn't know what it was otherwise I would have recorded it. It happened at about 2:30 am and had me, my gf, our room mate out there trying to figure out what it was. A few neighbors were outside as well... maybe one of them got a video or sound recording of it, although a vid would be better.... I should ask around.
  7. Alright, I have to partially disagree with you on this guys. The idea of an idealistic family, according to you, are what would be your family values. Now, I did say that whenever family values are used to try and restrict someone's rights it's only a thinly veiled attempt at hiding their bigotry and homophobia. Here are what I would say are the things I want to pass on to my children (obviously including basic life skills): 1. Be open minded. 2. Don't get in the way of someone else being happy, with the exception of their happiness causing true harm to someone (I.E. Physical or psychological abuse towards another being what makes said person happy.) 3. Always look to learn more. 4. Don't discriminate against those that look different or lead a different albeit harmless lifestyle. Those are my values and since I want my children to share in those with me, therefore, they are my family values. That is my perception of it.
  8. Family values... family values.. that phrase is thrown around like nothing else when it comes to same sex marriage. But, as a response, I think the "family values" touted by the people against same sex marriage is simply bigotry with a thin veil in front of it. Basically it's a "think of the children" ploy, and hiding behind children to lessen the sociopolitical backlash because your views should have stayed back in the dark ages is abhorrent. Personally though I think the idea of "Family Values" is, in large part, subjective. Take my view on it for example: I have few friends IRL, but they are friends that I have had for a long time, and I consider them family. I would give my life for them like I would an actual blood relation that was close. On that same token, there are blood relatives of mine that I could care less about. In the end it essentially boils down to this: If I know you, and trust you, and am able to form a close bond with you, you are family, and I will fight tooth and nail to keep you safe, sacrifice to make you happy, and so on. Those are what I consider family values, so in my opinion, mine are family values... Sorry if that is a bit confusing or long winded, I have a headache... >.<
  9. I know what it is like to have a close animal companion pass away like that. I'm sorry for your loss :(

Guys, this thread was necro'd, just leave it lol.
  12. You can actually do it using windows firewall, but it can cause issue with updating or purchasing. The commands for Origin to scan your HD is comming from their server, not the program itself. You can block all incoming and outgoing connections for Origin through windows firewall and simply exempt it when you want to purchase something or update a game through Origin. AFAIK, this is perfectly legal, if that is not the case, I'll promptly edit my post when informed unless a moderator decides to do so for me.
  13. The first thing it scans is it's own files, you have to scroll down quite a ways in that long list there to see it start to scan your browsing history and whatnot. EDIT: Also, in my images, you can clearly see it trying to access my IE 5 browsing history, which is a clear violation of privacy. I don't use IE 5, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn it is trying to access firefox browsing history as well. Also, about the virus idea, no. I started the monitor before I started Origin and had a filter to only show Origin.exe in the window. Nothing showed until I started Origin, and it ended as soon as I closed Origin. So unless there is spyware directly in Origin... oh wait... :armscrossed:
  14. Just so everyone knows that was saying the most recent version of origin doesn't do the data mining like it did, well, sorry to break it to you, I got the most recent version of origin and checked it out. I blacked my name in the users section and in the lower left corner of these images (taken only a few minutes apart) you can see how much it is doing and how fast, and in the second image you can see just what it is trying to do with the files it is opening. This is just a small example. http://i.imgur.com/5Ynlv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/xmsuw.jpg
  15. I'm kind of irked about Dust 514... it was originally supposed to have a 360 version coming out as well. I would have dropped for a CE if there was one if they had kept it non-exclusive...
  16. That... was an angry officer, for no real reason o.o' Sadly, I have seen things similar to that happen here, but not quite like that.
  17. I didn't say that many children are born rotten to the core. I know my style of writing (if you can call it that) can sometimes confuse people. What I mean is that IMO, the worst of the worst are usually born that way. I am also fully aware that people can be conditioned, to an extent. Just like how you domesticate animals. But that implies that no amount of conditioning can correct it, which is not true, that is the wonder of free will. We can choose to acknowledge what is wrong according to society, then we can choose to accept that or to throw it out the window and do it anyway.
  18. Wow.... really? Now, I'm not saying that all kids are born good, but not many are born "rotten to the core" as you put it, nor are many born that are "saintly", for lack of a better word. Children could easily be naturally inclined to go one direction or another, but you can condition them, without violence or abuse, to be good people. In the end, environment and conditioning trump certain genetic traits (not all though).
  19. HAHAHA! That's hilarious, because Sony did this to PS3 users first XD
  20. My personal stance is this: I'll explain what my kids did that was wrong, and why, one or two times. After that, I take their favorite toy for a couple of days. If that still doesn't work, I watch them and when they are about to do it again, I reach out and give them a quick but firm two fingered tap on their shoulder, followed by time out and again taking their favorite toy. After that, I typically don't have to say anything more that "Hey! You know you aren't supposed to do that." And it stops. I don't look at a two fingered tap on the shoulder as abuse though, and I should hope that those with sense wouldn't either. But like has been said: Consistency is key when raising a child.
  21. Yeah, sadly, although i wish that weren't the case.
  22. Well at least I can take comfort knowing I'm not the only person on the internet who grasps what censorship actually is. Now if people could just wrap their heads around what illegal activity is, there'd be no need for the RIAA/MPAA/etc to flail about trying to stop people from stealing their stuff by asking Congress to draft legislation on topics NONE of them actually understand well enough to act on. The tech sector, the ones who will actually be tasked with implementing the penalties, are telling everyone flat out that the methods are bad - they're not telling you that stopping piracy is bad. Yet go to just about any tech news site and the comment sections are filled with people who are anti-SOPA because it'll stop them from obtaining their ripped movies, music, and games. People who somehow got it into their heads that they're entitled to steal stuff rather than have to pay for it. I hope you understand that my problem is with the methods, not with stopping piracy, as I'm all for stopping piracy.
  23. Preparing for the impending chicken apocalypse...

We get arrested for harming chickens because they have connections, man. Connections in HIGH PLACES.

ROFL!! Yea don't mess with the chickens, they are some bad eggs.
  24. I believe I have given you links that fit most of those criteria, and upped the ante with links from an actual research group rather than just a medical journal. From the horses mouth and all that. Here are some links for you. See the above. As for this... You said: Theoretically. There were no studies supporting its utility 5-10 years ago when the argument first arose, so unless something has changed recently... One of the above linked Medical Journal articles are from more than ten years ago... more like 14 years ago. and Which is very strongly indicating that you do in fact doubt the ability of stem cells in the area of medicine. Would you mind clarifying why you have said things that lie on both side of the fence?
