  1. When you open the texture you don't need to open the MIP maps, just check Convert to 8 bits, when you save make sure Generate Mip maps is checked and the exporter will generate the MIP maps for you automatically.

    Like this. ^^

  2. So far its something I'm doing for me but I'll probably release it so other can try it if they like. My main goal is to improve my game and if other like what I've done thats fantastic. I've always been creative when I can and like to experiment and learn new things...its just fun to me. I'm not really planning to add any new meshes...its just all textures and right now the ones I'm using are vanilla Skyrim sizes just to see if I like it. If I release it I'd do as least another set thats twice that size...if there's interest in larger I can do it but I've always tried to minimize texture load times and resource usage by using the smallest texture that gives me the the best balance of detail and performance. I've worked in 3D for six years understand that a 1024x1024 texture is the same as loading four 512x512 textures...it maybe be double the size but its four times the area. I built my PC two years ago to handle pretty much anything I threw at it but I know from my experience on Second Life a lot of people are using PCs with specifications a lot lower than mine and I try to keep that in mind whenever I create a mesh or do textures. As far as reinventing the wheel...I've seen some of the mods and I'm not going into this trying to figure out if I can do it better, but I also feel choice and variety are always good thing. And I know some people will love it and others will say its awful...you can't please everyone. Feedback is always good thats why I wanted to ask what others thought. ;) Its like when I make an outfit for Second Life, sometimes I'll ask my customers what they think it needs or what they'd like added/changed...I don't always agree but its good to hear their opinions and they feel part of the process.
  3. This past week I've found several little places near Solitude that I've missed like the bandit camp in the destroyed cabin not far from the Thalmor embassy and just noticed a camp marker near Dragonbridge I never explored. There is so much in Skyrim to find, places to explore, nooks and crannies to poke into to...you never know what's just around the next rock outcrop.
  4. I love a good Kyne's Peace in a castle or other setting with lots of clutter. Everything flies everywhere and everyone just sits around like nothing happened. (it's also useful because it seems like skyrim has a bear infestation and I'm just not up for slaughtering every bear who happens to cross my path - I don't fast travel so I get a lot of that)

No idea how you can not use fast travel it takes so long to get from place to place on foot and i dont really like horses cus they die to dragons if there "unmodded" I was thinking of trying to see if theres a teleport spell like the mages in world of warcraft has and it would add more immerison to the game for me

I tried fast travel for a while but I didn't like it as much as riding my horse, having random encounters, seeing M'aiq all over the place and I noticed I was leveling up a lot more slowly and killing far fewer dragons. For me traveling from Solitude to Riften is pretty painless because I take cross country shortcuts rather than stick ridgidly to the roads and like Acidzebra I like the view...Skyrim is really a pretty game even when its dark and gritty. I use Convenient Horses and UFO and normally travel with Lydia and Serana both of whom are mounted as well. My horse set to cowardly and neutral to all factions he hasn't gotten killed...now finding Cowardly Clem, yes thats what I call him, after a fight is something of a pain because he seems to find the last place you'll look and its generally someplace he's well camoflauged. I try not to use my horse call unless I have to but sometimes he's harder to find than Waldo in a candy cane factory.

  5. Blackreach has a dragon ? i haven't seen one or encountered it yet :ermm: can you tell me where in the blackreach ?

Ever noticed the big yellow orb above the Silent City more or less in the center of Blackreach - this is Vulthuryol's Gong - hit the orb/gong with a shout and Vulthuryol the dragon will appear - not too happy to have been woken up.

Back on topic - I tend to use Aura Whisper the most,it's so much better than the other detect spells and detects anything that moves including Dwemer Automata.

Huh...who knew. I always just assumed it was a light source. But as far as shouts go I typically forget about them except for Dragonrend which I use regularly now, sometimes I do use unrelenting force or fire breath when I do remember.

  6. Sorry about the screenshots they're actually full 1920x1200 but Photobucket has reduced them to something like 1024 wide. Its just the texture sets for the potential grass without any CK editing at all, I wanted to keep it simple. ;) My thoughts were since it just textures people can use it as a mod if they want to green up the Whiterun area or use the textures in their mods if they credit me. I kinda thought after dragon attacks, vampire attacks and a civil war battle fought over their city maybe the residents of Whiterun needed a break to just stop and smell the flowers. :P
  7. So recently I thought it might be pretty if the drab tundra of Whiterun were to be a little greener and spring flowers started to bloom so I began doing simple texture replacers on some of the plants and altering the color/mixing my own variations of vanilla ground textures. So far I've altered all four tundra grasses, that yellow bush thats everywhere, the three tundra shrubs and remixed the tundra land textures and the dead grass texture inside Whitrun itself. I wanted the flowers in the fields to look more like spring here and this is a work in progress so I may end up changing the flowers entirely again. Anyway...what I'm looking for is feedback from other users.

I've also added some subtle flowers to the generic forest grass that you see near Dragonbridge and other forest areas like Riverwood and Falkreath, I think these flowers look great and just add a little splash of color and life without being distracting.

  8. I've seen this issue pop up a few times in the forums but didn't experience it myself...maybe I was lucky? But then the first thing I did after getting Dawnguard was locate the Unoficial Dawnguard Patch, if you don't have it maybe try it and see if it helps.
  9. I think that horseback fighting is horrible in Skyrim. It was a nice idea, but I can tell that not much effort went into it.

I can't hit anything at all; even shooting a bow from horseback doesn't seem to aim properly.

I rarely hit anything with hand held weapons but I do regularly use my bow mounted hit my target with probably 80% accuracy or more. I use both my bow and crossbow mounted a lot in the Rift because of the bear and wolf attacks every 30 feet...I used to feel bad about killing all wildlife in the Rift but now I feel more like I'm doing the locals a public service by thinning them out a bit.

  10. I had to uninstall my Breezehome mods after getting Hearthfire because of crashes to desktop when I tried to enter it. The problem is both the mod and Hearthfire can modify the house since you get the option to ask the Stewart to replace the alchemy table with childrens beds. I suggest disabling Hearthfire, loading Skyrim and removing anything you have in the mod room(s) storing them in the chest upstairs, save, quit Skyrim. Then disable the home mod(s), reenable Hearthfire and load your game...yes you loose all your cool Breezehome mods but the odds are you probably won't use it as much now anyway. My main house now is Heljarchen Hall because of its central location and short travel time to many places and lots of chest so I can sort my stuff. Yes, I really do "need" a chest full of alchemy ingredients...oh and one for potions...and one for armor...and...ok so I tend to hoard a thing or two...maybe.
  11. Even if Skyrim wins and pushed out the Imperial army unless the Empire is so weakened that it can't respond or is unwilling to take it back then the Imperial Legions would be marching in force for Skyrim to crush the Nord rebellion once and for all with overwhelming force. If nothing else allowing Skyrim to break away from the Empire may encourage other proveinces to attempt do so as well. No doubt the Thalmor would want to go along for the ride with the Imperial Legions to ensure the destruction of all Talos shrines. The Emperor can't afford to appear weak in the face of the Aldmeri Dominion so Skyrim must be retaken from the rebels...but of course internal conflict in the Empire weakens it without the Aldmeri Dominion having to do anything. I get the impression its just a matter of time before the Aldmeri Dominion is ready for another invasion attempt to topple the Empire and if the Empire destroys itself from within the easier conquering it will be. I look at the Roman Empire as the basis for The Elder Scrolls Empire and one thing the romans did was conquer and Romanize the population...but they were also swift to put down revolts by the locals.
  12. "2. Copy the .pex files in Data\Scripts\ into the Data\Scripts\ folder of your installation. The .pex files are needed by all users of SKSE. "

That is copied from the readme. However the Scripts folder doesnt exist. Its just Interface, Strings and Video. Should i just create it? or is it just jargin im not getting?

The easiest way to learn everything you need to know about installing SKSE

    , he explains it thoroughly.
  13. No promises, but over winter break I'm going to try to make a mod that replaces all the Stormcloak armor with Confederate uniforms and Imperial armor with Union uniforms, with general uniforms for officers and leaders, along with other changes to make it like the American Civil War. I'll also make it so that they only carry rifles from Ghosu's mod.

If you need any help with reference material let me know...I used to make museum quality reproduction Civil War uniforms. I studied the uniforms and equipment for over ten years and have hands on experience with original pieces.

  14. SKSE is kinda fussy...its looking for TESV.exe, it won't recognize TESV with the extentions hidden so I assume its not recognizing yours since its TESV.exe.4gb. I suppose you can try renaming it to TESV.exe but that might break anything that requires it to be TESV.exe.4gb...you may have to choose between them. Maybe someone else knows a workaround for this.
  15. Jennifur68: When I press printscreen, the screenshots end up in my steamapps/skyrim folder right beside the Data folder and skse. If you don't see them there, your UAC might be blocking them. That happened to me in Oblivion.

Actually I learned with Vista that one of the first things I want to do after installing Vista or Windows 7 is turn off UAC. ;) I just found them in the main Skyrim folder...they weren't showing up in a search in my start menu and I overlooked them the first time because I was looking for a screenshot folder.

  16. I'm not sure about the Windstad Manor crashes but I seem to recall people having crashes entering Fort Dawnguard because of mannequin mods...if you have any try disabling them or updating them to Dawnguard friendly versions if they're available then try entering the fort. I'd also reccomend the Unoficial Dawnguard Patch if you don't already have it. I use all three unoficial patches for Skyrim, Dawnguard and Hearthfire.
  17. Thanks Hymmnos you helped me diagnose my issue...it turns out that it was my Microsoft keyboard. I tried to change my screenshot to F11 in Steam...it came up as S when I pressed F11, so I tried resetting it to F12, that set it as P. For some reason the keyboard has suddenly decided to start using its bound keys...F12 was bound to P which is bound to Print...so when I pressing F12 it was like pressing P, and apparently in Skyrim pressing P toggles between the magic menu and sneak. I did try to change the Microsoft keyboard binding but I was only able to either change it or disable the key...and disabling it really made the key non-functional. Using my old reliable HP Keyboard that I've had forever fixed the issue...sometimes all the new fancy bells and whistles on a keyboard just get in the way.

Rabbit I looked everyplace I could think of for the screenshots that were taken using Print Screen and I still haven't found them,

In case anyones interested here's what I was trying to get shots of. ^^

  18. I'm not sure what's going on but when I press F12 to do a screen shot it opens my SkyUI magic menu for all magic items, pressing F12 again causes the menu to close and my character to go into sneak mode...if I keep pressing F12 it just cycles between the menu and sneak. Pressing the PrntScn button on my keyboard flashes a message in the upper left of the screen "screenshot01.bmp created" but I can't paste it into Photoshop and it doesn't show up seaching though my start menu and on exiting Skryim it doesn't launch the Steam Screenshot Manager. I haven't changed any key assignments ever, everything was running perfectly normal just a few days ago. The only changes I've made since my last succesful screenshot and now were a few texture replacements I made to green up the Whiterun area and add some flowers to make it look more like spring and I wanted a few screenshots of that. The textures are just simply placed in Skyrim/Data/Textures/Plants and Skyrim/Data/Textures/Landscape/Grass...I made no .esp in the creation kit for them since it was a simple texture override, I didn't see the point of an .esp for that.

I just updated to the latest version of SKSE today after I noticed the problem with screenshots hoping an update might clear it up but its still happening.

  19. I think neither side is good or evil. A united Empire is stronger with Skyrim as a province, its weakened in its position against the Aldmeri Dominion with Skyrim in dissarray or independant...both the empire and the Thalmor know this. Ulfric...based on talking to with him near the end of the main quest (I played the Imperial side) truely thought he was trying to do what was right for Skyrim. He wanted his people to be strong and proud as a nation and be allowed to freely worship Talos. He felt the Empire had sold them out to the Thalmor and was taking what he saw only true course of action as an honorable Nord. On the flip side of that had the Empire not agreed to ban the worship of Talos the war with the Aldmeri Dominion would have drug on for years if not decades destroying both sides. As I understand it the Thalmore had captured the Imperial City and the Emperor retook it at great cost effectively destrying both sides armies in the process and their ability to continue the war. Thus the original terms of the Aldmeri Dominion were accepted as the peace treaty with large portions of Hammerfell being relenquished and the worship of Talos banned, instead of tribute payments the Thalmor were given free reign to root out Talos worship in the Empire.

So in the end...who's right and who's wrong? To preseve the Empire the Emperor agreed to a peace treaty that was unfavorable to the Empire to end a long and bloody war, essentially the same terms he initially rejected when they were outright demands of a foriegn power four years earlier. He and his empire had stood their ground and bloodied the nose of the bully but had taken a beating doing it. To presrve his people's honor and their god Talos, Ulfic and the Stormcloaks were were willing to fight for what they precieved to be their rights and against what they saw as a betrayal by the Empire.

The right side...is the one you feel strongly enough about to support but I don't neccesarily think that automatically makes the other side evil.

  20. I would have enjoyed longer, drawn out sieges...I think defending Whiterun took all of 10 minutes if that and the Stormcloak army was broken and retreating. It would have been better in my opinion if after that intial attack the Imperial officer in command would have said something like, "Good job repelling thier skirmishers...I fear the main attack will be much larger. Prepare you soldiers!" Then have the catapults start up again after a while and a few more attempts to take the city with pauses between...maybe they could attack from different sides like from the damaged walls on the west side or have one of the east wall breached by catapults and Stormcloaks pouring in. Something to make it feel like it was a hard won victory holding the city and the losses suffered in the attempts to take it cause the Stormcloaks to retreat rather than be crushed by a counter attack from the city. The battle to capture Windhelm wasn't any more spectacular really. I realize they have to take into account peoples PCs and what they can handle but maybe have it scale based on your PCs graphics setting. Markarth would have been fun to defend too, though I might have accidentally shot a Thalmore or two "accidentally". ^^
  21. I had the same problem after I had to replace my hard drive...I couldn't remember my load order and was getting conflicts causing my game to crash. After two days or so trying to fix it I uninstalled all my mods and started reinstaling them one at a time with a new game, I was simply resigned to having to start over with a new game and not at all happy about it. But at around 10-15 hours or so into the new game with something like 90% of my mods installed again and working fine I attempted to locate my last save from the previous game and it loaded. All I had to do from there was get a few mods to get everything back like it was for the most part. I do have to admit its not 100% the same...in my original load order none of the men had mod hair, now a lot of them do...including General Tullius who now has long brown flowing hair all the way down his back...thats a bit disturbing to look at honestly but I'll live with it. What I did after I got it all working again was open the NMM and take screen captures of my installed mods and their load orders. When I add mods and I'm sure theres no issues I redo my screen captures. I know this doesn't help you recover your load order but I hope it helps in some way...if nothing else I think it shows with some work you can recover.
