  1. Nice work, looks like the scars were received a long time ago and are fading with age. This makes sense with his chopped up looks from the first game.
  2. Apologies mate, I was looking in the wrong place, yep, it says 1.5.0.1304 in the system folder  .....I hadn't gone that deep I was looking in the plain Witcher folder. :wallbash: Now all I have to do is remember how the controls work! (it's terrible being a grey-haired old fart! )
  3. I found that the Nekkers still re-spawn in the cave under the waterfall and also the cave near the Harbor even after destroying the nests, the XP is minimal though 4-5 per kill but at least you can harvest stuff to sell on or make potions from. I'm not sure if dropping items to retrieve later works, once an item has been in your inventory and subsequently dropped, then I believe the game engine flags it as not required and will "clean" it out when you leave the cell, thus you'd lose it. I have noticed though that if you don't pick up a stash you can often find it later.
  4. I'm playing in English and haven't noticed anything untoward, could you point me towards one of these indecipherable sections of dialogue.
  5. There is no storage in the game what so ever, To the best of my knowledge Geralt does keep leveling throughout the game, the re-spawn is minimal I've found a couple of caves that re-spawn Nekkers but that's about it, so the amount of XP for leveling is limited to how many quests you complete and the number of kills. At present there is limited modability but hopefully sometime in the future a tool kit will be released as happened with Witcher 1.
  6. Strange, the only thing that shows any version history is the launcher icon (the dark grey amulet) which shows as 1.0.0.83, there is nothing that I can find in the Witcher folder that says .exe yet the game runs, even managed to get an old savegame I found on another drive to work which will save a bit of time (location :- Swamp outside Visima), there is a 34Kb DIR file that says Patch although I have no idea what programme would be needed to open it, I would therefore assume that the patches must have been applied but am as yet unable to ascertain the exact version.
  7. Too late to edit last post, but after running the TWEE with the language pack and then the 1.5 patch, when I hover the mouse over the launcher it reads 1.0.0.83, yet the 1.4 patch took ages to update (in fact i went to bed and left it to it's own devices!) so I would have expected it to at least show as 1.4.
  8. Interesting, to date none of the starts I've had showed Aryan's mother at all, she is mentioned in a few places but not shown. I guess that's the "standard" beginning then without any import. I'll have to steam through W1 again a few times following the various paths. Well that's the next few months taken care of!!!
  9. If it doesn't then it's a new DVD reader, fortunately they have come down in price a lot.
  10. I'm more interested in how your choices from Witcher 1 affect the new game, if there is a significant change then playing W1 down a particular route and then following it through W2 becomes a very interesting option.
  11. Thanks mate, I still run on XP so the last bit I can ignore.
  12. I think the reason for it is so that the game engine doesn't become overloaded with items it has to keep track of, the remains that are left (small bag/pouch, steaming rib-cage etc) will have a far smaller impact on a system than the complete bodies, it's easy enough to find those remains by activating the amulet (Z).
  13. I've just re-installed the original Witcher, downloaded the 1.5 patch but when I try and apply it I get a message telling me that it doesn't recognise the game version, should I download all the other patches and apply them in sequence? It was also rather odd that when I uninstalled from my F drive and then re-installed on C I wasn't asked for the game serial code or to register it either, both of which I would expect with an install on a new drive. PS, viewing the readme it's V1.0, how do you actually check the actual install?
  14. All that program does is end some non critical system processes to free up more ram/cpu time and restarts them after your exit your game, etc. This can also be easily done up opening up task manager and ending processes. Or by removing start up programs/services from msconfig. Yep, but you can do it with one click rather than half a dozen, if the guy is getting framerate problems then the more RAM and CPU available the better.
  15. I dunno, I'd hate to see the Witcher games get to the stage where there were arguments over lore, that did happen quite a bit with Morrowind, someone would produce a mod and the poor sod would get ripped to pieces by a lore crazy faction, because it didn't fit into what they believed the lore should be.
  16. If you want a difficult tutorial try Eragon on PC without a gamepad, a dozen different key-strokes sequences to use the special moves that you need to get through, but they only come on the screen once for a short time........I gave up on that one. Personally the only thing I find difficult with the Witcher 2 tutorial, is that the writing is too small, and in some cases the panel has faded before I get a chance to read it all.
  17. Oh hell, I'm that crap a player I couldn't even get the trap frame! looks like going through the camp is going to be a couple of months work for me!
  18. I've been banging my head against a wall all day with this one.....trying to get into the Kedwani camp. First off I tried sneaking through the camp (the eastern route near the Visionary) and was repeatedly turned into a pin-cushion. So after the 5th re-load (made a manual save just after talking to Roche) I tried via the whorehouse (tent). Things were going fine through the tunnels, EXCEPT... 1. The first large chamber you enter has 3 doors, 1 you came through, 1 that unlocks and a third that needs a key. (haven't found that) 2 . Dropping into the lower tunnels via the door that unlocks leaves you with no alternative but to carry on, as I haven't found any way of returning to the 3 door chamber....(how were the soldiers meant to get to the hookers anyway????) 3. All exits from the caverns lead to the beach, the first enables you to sneak up to the palisade gates which are locked, the others seem to lead nowhere. There is a section of cave where you have to jump a chasm and then fight a Golem, where you can see a ladder leading upwards from a higher level, as yet I've had no luck in locating any way of getting to it, tried smashing thing up with Aard to see if that would release a route, but to no avail, I would assume that this ladder would lead into the camp. The best guess is that it might be reachable from the locked door in the first chamber, but there is no way that I can find to either return or to lay my grubby little mitts on the key. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  19. HUH? The troll never repaired the bridge in my game, and I still got to the hideout, wade further up the river and you come to some sloping masonry that you can climb to get to the swamp area.
  20. Moreover, at least by having the game available for consoles as well makes for a larger fan-base, the more players then the more copies sold, more sales = greater profit which in turn makes the development of future games easier....as long as CDP don't go the same way as Bethesda and Blizzard!
  21. Might it be possible to switch to Insane partway through a session and then just before you quit, switch back to normal or easy before making a save. Admittedly all the scripted save points you have completed might not be available, but the last one should.
  22. I don't know if you've tried it, but get yourself a can of compressed air (most computer stockists or plumbers merchants have them) and blast all of the crud out from around your existing fans (CPU, Powerpack et.al.) I've found it makes a hell of a difference.
  23. You could try getting this freeware programme http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html I find it helps a lot with my older rig.
  24. Well mate, I'm running the game with most settings on high on an old NVidia GeForce 8800 GTX 512, plus I still run XP so I only get 3 Gig of the available RAM, the only issue I've had so far is that every once in a while I get a short loadscreen whilst moving through some areas, the most notable is when going to the Troll Bridge, but it only lasts a second or so and therefore is no real biggie as far as I'm concerned.
  25. Could be your rig is too good! The game action is running faster than it can process the commands from the keyboard, is it possible to reduce the number of cores used to play the game? I'm using a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 and haven't found any problems such as you describe.
