  1. Nevermind, I found the option I was looking for. I would delete this thread but I'm not sure if the new forum software allows me to do so.
  2. After 30-45 mins my game CTD, and I'm trying to figure out the cause. In the spoiler tags is the end chunk of my papyrus logs, referencing 'clothingmonitor' quite often (appears all over the place actually). As far as I can surmise, "non-object variable" and "::tempXX" probably relates to an object that has been renamed due to a sorting mod (I'm using categorized favorites menu). 'Clothingmonitor' seems to be a WEAR script from the Frostfall mod. Anyone know if I'm on the right track or not? These two mods seemed to be playing nice previously without CTD. In fact, I only encountered a CTD after I added Deadly Dragons. However, so far I don't see a single error related to it in the logs, so I'm thinking it might be a coincidence. My only saves are early on and for testing only at this stage, and this crash happened as I was entering bleak falls barrow for the first time, so I doubt the scripts are even initialized yet, but I could be wrong. Thanks in advance for any insight or help.
  3. [Edit] Please disregard. I just saw another thread mention it was an update for the HD Res pack. Apologies for the duplicate thread. In the process of running BOSS for the umpteeth time to make sure I have my mods in order, steam starts to download an 'update' to Skyrim when I log in to access BOSS (I'm using Mod Organizer and it requires Steam login for BOSS). I'm already running patch 1.8.151.0.7 and have since I downloaded Skyrim a couple weeks ago. I've paused the update process and tried to look here on the Nexus, Bethesda, and Google for information on a new patch but do not see any announced. I currently do not have Dragonborn, so I know that cannot be the reason (although I do have Dawnguard and Hearthfire if that matters). I didn't ask Steam to verify game cache (I know 'updates' will happen if you do this after cleaning up Hearthfire/Dawnguard .esms with TES5edit, which I've done). I did have automatic updates enabled in Steam (a mistake on my part, I didn't realize it was enabled. I've since disabled it). I'm not very experienced with using Steam, is there a way I can find out exactly what this 'update' is supposed to be before it's downloaded and installed? My other question is, now that Steam already started the download and I paused it after some data was transferred, is there a chance of game corruption if I do not allow it to finish? Are game files typically overwritten as they are downloaded, or does Steam wait until the entire download is complete, and then overwrite files? Has anyone else today experienced this behavior from Steam, and knows what this update entails? Thanks in advance for assistance. [Edit] I forgot to mention that I know synchronizing game saves through the cloud may be the cause, but in the past I'm pretty sure that the message I got was 'synchronizing' and not 'updating'. Perhaps I'm mistaken on this however.
  4. After going about things the wrong way, I did a clean install of Skyrim. I downloaded Mod Organizer and read that playing the game at least once is recommended so that Skyrim's .ini files are configured. I started up a new game and during the opening tutorial I accidently hit F9 (I was in Helgen, before Alduin shows up when I pressed it) which loaded a save game I had from before my clean install. I got a message that the save file was corrupt and I got sent back to the main menu. My question is... since I loaded a corrupt save game from my earlier install (when I had ~100 mods) is there any chance that screwed up my INI files in any way? If it did or might have, what should I do to remedy that situation?
  5. I went ahead and just used my pre-existing install on my C:/ drive. At this point, I'm just curious if the lack of a 'SteamLibrary' folder is something to worry about. I went ahead and installed Skyrim there (/programfiles(x86/Steam/Steamapps/common/Skyrim) and the game itself doesn't seem to care (game starts up just fine). Will Skyrim, Steam, Mods, or Utilities ever expect to find the 'SteamLibrary' folder in the install path and cause any problems if it isn't there? Should I create the folder myself, or not worry about it?
  6. Nevermind, I was able to resolve the issue.
  7. Last night I started a fresh install of Skyrim before going to bed. I come back this morning to a sync conflict. I run "verify intrigity of game cache" and get the following error: "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired." Steam briefly going into 'updating mode' for about 2-3 seconds then comes back with the same sync conflict notification. I run it again, same result. I restart Steam, same result. No information is given on what file is out of sync, what caused the conflict, or how to fix it. ...any ideas?
  8. Add one more to the list (Win 7, 64bit). I'm not installing anything ATM but have had the same issue intermittently over the past couple of days. I experienced this both before and after the upgrade to NMM .40 beta... I was almost always able to get the file I needed, but it would sometimes take a few tries.
  9. Hmm... not sure why the archive didn't have a ModOrganizer directory, something strange must have happened. In either case, there have been so many 'redos' I've made in the past few days that I'm starting the process over from scratch. Already uninstalled/deleted everything and will be downloading from Steam in short order. By chance, would you have a recommendation for which order to download the utilities in to avoid any conflicts? Does it matter if SKSE is installed before NMM or MO for example? I've read a couple FAQs here and elsewhere but haven't seen that covered (perhaps I've just missed it). Also, would you consider it a wiser course of action to clean dirty edits one at a time for each mod before installing another mod? Or, do some dirty edits only arise or become 'visible' to BOSS after all are installed? From what I've gathered by others here, I think the "try 1 mod at a time and check everything before moving on" approach seems to be the recommended one. Thanks again for all your help, ripple. I've since given you a kudos.
  10. I'm currently in the process of doing a fresh/clean/vanilla install of Skyrim. After completing all the recommended uninstallation procedures and wiping out everything, I am about to re-install Skyrim. Here is the issue I am curious about: 1. I have 2 hard drives, a standard 2 TB HHD drive and a 128 GB SSD drive. 2. I have an install location on my HHD at F:/Steam and on my SSD drive at C:/Program Files(x86)/Steam 3. All of my Steam games are located on the 2 TB HHD and so was my previous install of Skyrim. 4. I want to install Skyrim on the faster SSD drive for better performance, while keeping all other games on the HHD. 5. I want to move my steam install on the SSD out of Program Files(x86)/Steam and directly under C:/Steam I am not sure of the best way to go about this while making sure I don't cause any potential issues with Steam or Skyrim down the road. Is it safe to simply delete the Steam folder out of Program Files(x86), or is there a particular process I need to take to do it correctly? The Steam install that is currently on my SSD does not have a Steam Library folder for some reason (I assume because all my games are on the HHD and SteamLibrary is only created when at least 1 game is installed in the folder?) Is that something that should concern me at all? I have no issues with UAC, it is already disabled. I'm wanting to do this to save myself that extra click when tinkering/modding Skyrim in the future and to reduce an overly long file path. I know I can just tell Steam to install a new copy of itself when downloading Skyrim to C:/ but I don't want to have 2 copies of steam on the same drive. Sorry if that was excessively long, and thanks for your help.
  11. I extracted them to F:/SteamLIbrary/SteamApps/common/Skyrim I did this by moving the 7z archive to this location and using 7zip > Extract Here Once that was complete... hmm... well I had just written a sentence how I updated MO to v0.12.5, but MO reports it is still 0.12.3... strange. :turned: I thought I had updated it, I know I have the update downloaded... perhaps the lack of that folder is the cause. Do you think it would hurt anything if I just manually created the folder where the rest of the data for MO already is in .../Skyrim? [Edit] What files/folders are in your 'ModOrganizer' directory? Do all your mods go there, or is it only MO's own files? I have several files and folders belonging to MO that are scattered in my .../Skyrim directory on my system.
  12. Thanks again for the information, ripple. I have learned a bit more about Mod Organizer since you suggested it (although I still fall heavily into the noobie category) and have it installed. Unfortunately, I have run into a problem with that utility as well and cannot find a resolution anywhere. The readme and tutorials (as well as threads on the net) keep referring to the 'ModOrganizer' folder where the tool is installed... on my setup, there is no such folder. For reference, I did unpack the MO archive in my Skyrim folder as the author suggests. My Skyrim folder is also not in a protected location, I am logged in as Administrator, UAC is disabled, and hidden files and folders are visible to me (in case any of that is a potential cause). http://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Mod_Organizer#tab=First_steps This is the reason I was looking for the 'ModOrganizer' directory, I have downloaded this NCC optional file and don't know where to put it now. I have an updated version of .NET framework, so that doesn't seem to be the issue. I downloaded the compressed archive version of the utility, and upon opening it up in 7zip, there is no such folder in there either... so, I'm really not sure how to proceed. I quickly updated to version 0.12.5 after install (as the author highly recommends) and this doesn't seem to have made a difference. I was going to uninstall MO and reinstall it using the self installer version, but there is no uninstallation option for MO (the readme confirms this), and I'm not sure if I should manually delete every file/folder the archive created or if doing so will cause problems. Or, if problems will arise if I try to install another copy over the current version (especially since the self installer option is running v0.12.3 and not the latest patch). My final idea is simply to create this folder myself and throw the NCC file into it, but I'm not sure if it will work correctly if it isn't specifically made by the utility itself or if doing so may cause any problems in the future. Getting back to the dirty edits topic, you were correct concerning the TESVedits I still need to make, I was referring only to the compatibility patches for mods reported by BOSS as having been updated. So, dirty edits are still on the 'todo' list for me. Once I reach that step, I'll be sure to follow your advise and post the results here to see if I messed up in any way. I'm just hoping to get past this MO hurdle first. :wallbash:
  13. Thanks a bunch, ripple. That was just the type of reply I was hoping for. I'll go ahead and read up on this mod organizer (I'm shocked I didn't come across it earlier) and give it a try. Do you know off-hand if its a big chore to switch to using it, or something as simple as moving mods from one folder to another? As far as errors go, BOSS summary shows zero errors (it had errors previously, but I took care of them). It does however show 12 warnings, all related to patches I have already installed. I asked about this in another thread a couple days ago and was told that BOSS isn't able to verify those patches are present (no idea as to why) and to ignore the warnings. Was I told correctly? There was in fact 3 unrecongized plugins (forgot to ask about that) those 3 are: Crossbows_Basic_Collection_DE_LL.esp Active Better Sorting - Hearthfire Food (Normal Weight).esp Active CornersofTheSkyrimMinus1.esp Active I'm guessing since the master list doesn't include them, I should check the descriptions for clues on where to put them in the load order? As far as the sorting mods go... it seems like a case of pick the best of 2 bad options... either don't choose to have one at all and have a disorganized mess in menus, or pick an updated one and hope it doesn't cause any conflicts with other mods *AND* stays updated by the author, because if it isn't, you can't go back and it might bork your saves. :ohdear: Am I understanding that correctly?
  14. *** TL;DR version (I'm requesting assistance to help me find any obvious load order or other stupid mistakes I may have made before playing Skyrim. Spoiler tagged load order is below.) *** Hi all, I'm able to start up and play Skyrim without any CTDs or similar oddities so far, just trying to address any potential problem areas before I start playing to keep it that way. Over the past couple of days I've poured many hours into researching the best mods out there, learning as much as I can about the various tools & utilities (SKSE, NMM, BOSS, WB, & TESVedit, etc.) and was hoping the community could assist me in making sure I haven't committed any grievous errors or omissions before I go back to the land of Skyrim (my first playthrough was at release and 100% vanilla). I've modded Oblivion in the past but that was years ago and I've had to relearn everything. I've read that with Skyrim if you make mod mistakes in the beginning, you can permanently bork your save games and leave yourself completely SOL as far as repair options go... obviously, I want to avoid that. I got excited and went into n00b happy mode like many do and downloaded virtually every mod that looked cool and shiny, all at once. I was up to ~120 mods/plugins at the max, and now have it down to under 100; removing redundant, conflicting, and some no longer supported mods, while ensuring I've installed all appropriate compatibility patches (I hope). I know I've probably created a problem for myself due to having old files modified or added which are now likely deleted after uninstalling the mod that added or altered them. I'm not sure how to go about making sure I get the install order correct this time. For example, I just finished downloading the official HD DLC, but already installed the HD 2K mod a couple days ago... I omitted the DLC at first because I figured it would be redundant, but then realized there are probably textures updated by the DLC that may not yet have been updated by HD 2K or other texture mods. By chance, is there a tool that can check for incorrect install orders from a master list similar to the way BOSS does for load orders and inform me of any corrections I need to make? If not, will simply deactivating and reactivating mods in the correct order in NMM or WB fix any install snafus I've made, or will I need to completely delete/redownload/reinstall those mods? The final issue I want to make sure I understand correctly is concerning dirty edits... specifically the ones BOSS finds in the official Bethesda .ESMs. If I have understood correctly, it is safe and recommended to use TESVedit to clean up Dawnguard and Hearthfire .ESM dirty edits (assuming one is careful and creates backups beforehand), but do not to ever touch the original Skyrim.esm or the Update.esm... otherwise all the NPC's will simultaneously take an arrow to the knee (:hurr:... sorry), Sweetrolls will go missing (:hurr:... sorry again), and Tamriel in general will simply implode. Causing me to have to start over from scratch. ...Do I have all that about right? Anyway, here is what Wrye Bash currently reports for my load order: A huge thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me out. If I left out any important information or bad memes please let me know. :) [Edit] Forgot the BOSS log
  15. I'll have to give TESVedit a try then. As far as Wrye Bash not showing my installers, is that a concern? Or is that to be expected when downloading using NMM links?
  16. HeyYou, Thank you for absolving that concern of mine. Do you also have any insight about the suggested tags from BOSS, and/or presence of supposed 'dirty edits' in Skyrim.esm and Dawnguard.esm?
  17. Hello, (Apologies in advance, this post is a little long. I wanted to save time by not making several posts/threads for my issues, so most if not all are included here.) Although despite reading descriptions/manuals and watching a few YT videos, I find I'm just not very adept at using the innards of Wrye Bash/NMM/BOSS and am getting increasingly more confused and frustrated the more I try to learn. I'm hoping a kind samaritan would be motivated to help me out in clearing my remaining complaints from BOSS for my mods so I can get back to playing Skyrim for the first time in over a year. BOSS reports 12 warnings, 8 of which pertain to the Better Sorting mod (which apparently is a requirement for another mod or two that I can't remember off the top of my head). The warnings for it are the following: The problem is, I follow the link(s) (the all seem to go to the same URL) to here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26230 and I have already downloaded and installed the compatibility patch (there is only one that I see that is relevant), rerun BOSS and the warnings don't go away. The patch appears in both NMM and WB has present and activated, so I really don't have any idea why BOSS still says there is a problem. I just started downloading everything a day or so ago, so I think it is all the latest version. Wrye Bash version: 303 Standalone Nexus Mod Manager version: 0.34.0 Another warning is for Skyrim Redone (Skyre) that there may be duplicates entries for crafting due to Complete Crafting Overhaul, but I have already downloaded and installed the compatibility patch for that as well. Is it to be expected that BOSS will always give these warnings, even if the needed patch is present? There is also a similar warning for Dovhakin Hideout mod needing a patch, but I already installed that one as well, so same problem. I've read that adding 'tags' to mods is suggested (although I'm not sure what function they serve) and BOSS gives me several suggestions for tags to add in Wrye Bash, but every time I go to add them, they are already there (I assume the authors did this already). Is this expected? Does BOSS not check to see if they are already present? Also, I'm not sure if this is to be expected as well, but out of the several mods that BOSS complains have dirty edits, even the original Skyrim.esm and Dawnguard.esm are among them, is this legit? Is there a real issue with my master files, or should I just ignore this? Finally, (and this is probably a herp derp question) but my Wrye Bash shows zero items present under the 'installers' tab, while showing all my mods on the next tab. Would this be because I've downloaded all my mods using the NMM links, and therefore they aren't in the correct format for WB to recongize, or is there something I need to do to make them appear? Thanks in advance to anyone who is able and willing to assist me in fixing these issues.
  18. [Possible Spoilers] Hello, I cannot start the quest, "Blood on Ice", because the scene with the dead body never occurs, although townsfolk do occasionally mention the killer. I know its a heavily bugged quest and have already searched the internet for answers and cannot find one for my situation. Here is what I've tried, or potential causes of the bug that don't apply to me: - I have already entered Windhelm dozens of times (console commands confirm this) - I have fast traveled to Windhelm from other holds the majority of time (I've already hit the minimum number of entries from other holds). - I have entered Windhelm, through the front gate, at night, during all hours of the night (before 2:00am, after 2:00am, and exactly at 2:00am) - I have waited in the graveyard in real time, near the graveyard in real time, and used the wait command, to be there exactly at 2:00am, as well as waited there after 2:00am, as others sites suggest. - No NPC's have dialog options concerning the killer. - I have not become a member of the Dark Brotherhood yet (only progressed to have been offered to join). - None of quest NPC's have been killed. - I have not stolen the key to hjerim, and have not entered the house. - I have less than 245 in-game days played - This quest has never entered my quest journal, I have not made quest progress by accident (console commands confirm this) - I have tried to use console commands to attempt to force the quest to start, they have not worked. I deleted these saves after using the console commands so they do not corrupt any other aspect of the game. - I have not used console commands to modify any other quests or aspects of the game (only to confirm status of objectives). - My character has no bounties on his head, in any holds. - I'm not running any mods, and have never run any mods for Skyrim - I have rebooted saves, the game, and my PC, and have tried multiple saves. I'm aware that sometimes moving forward in the storm cloak quest chain will resolve the issue, but I joined the Empire, so that won't work for me. My character is level 42 and I have over 120 hours invested in him and I'm not willing to start over either, so I need a way to fix the problem on my current character. If anyone knows of a way to fix this issue given my particular circumstances, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  19. I'm also using a no-dvd patch, partially for the reason you mention, but mostly because I cannot stand the noise my DVD drive makes when it has a disc in it. Are you sure you got the right patch? There are different patched .exe's for each patch of Oblivion, make sure yours is for version number you have (should be v1.2.0416 if you've updated) and I believe they change depending on if you have SI, DLC, and/or GOTY editions/addons. Just double check you have the correct one. If it still doesn't work, you might have a bad patch and I would look elsewhere and try again. Good luck.
  20. I've reported it to the author, but I don't think it affects high elves, as I checked that myself. I believe there is probably a threshold for weaknesses before RL refuses to do its thing, and its higher than 25.
  21. My console read out continually displays the following message: "Large ability drain detected, postponing attribute recalculation." - or something to that effect. [EDIT]After some testing, I believe I've discovered the issue.. the Weidergaenger's weakness to fire (-75) seems to be calculated as a drain ability. Since this is actually a racial ability, it will forever prevent me from advancing in level. I had orginially thought it was the race's zero personality attribute, but after modifying that several times without change, I instead looked at the fire weakness. Changing the race to something else immediately gets rid of the bug my stats are calculated normally... change back to a Weidergaenger, and the bug comes back. So, does anyone know of a workaround for this? I haven't seen one in either mod's readme.
  22. Glenvar Castle? I would never have guessed that mod to cause issues with CM. The next time I come across this bug, I will try disabling the mod and see if that does the trick. Once again, you've been a big help, thanks Keirgarth.
  23. Nope, I didn't modify their behavior in any way, in fact I never even recruited them. This happened the first time I walked into an inn on a new game. They didn't get into a fight with shop owners, but with regular tavern goers. Also, the companions that attacked both appeared to be fighter types and not thief types. As a pseudo work-around, I reinstalled the mod making all the companions non-essential so the ones who act up are removed. However, this is far from ideal. So what mod do you have installed that alters relationships? Well, therein lies the problem... I probably have several, my active mods are just shy of 250. Although I've tried to be diligent and read the readmes as often as possible, I haven't read each one in full (however, I usually do at least read the 'requirements', 'install', and 'conflicts/bugs' sections) and do not recall anything that should cause behavior like this. If anyone feels like putting on their detective hat, here is my mod list. Although I certainly wouldn't blame people for not bothering, its a needle in a hay-stack at this point. I will probably just end up hoping that this bug/conflict is extremely minimal in occurrence or delete the mod.
  24. Nope, I didn't modify their behavior in any way, in fact I never even recruited them. This happened the first time I walked into an inn on a new game. 25. CM Partners in my oblivion will randomly attack (and kill) non-violent civilians and other NPC's (usually in taverns and other crowded places). I've read the readme for CM Partners, but I'm not seeing anything related to my issue. Anyone know why this would be, and how to fix it?
